The coffee machine in the break room sputtered, let out one final hiss, and then died. A small plume of steam rose from the spout as Melanie stared at it in disbelief, holding an empty mug in one hand.

"This can’t be happening," she muttered, her eyes narrowing as if sheer willpower could resurrect the machine. "No. Not today."

Shannon, sitting at the table and leaning back in her chair, glanced over, her expression a mix of sympathy and amusement. "It’s just coffee, Mel."

"Just coffee?" Melanie’s voice hit a high note of disbelief. "Shannon, without coffee, I am nothing. I am a mere mortal struggling to survive the day. This is a disaster."

Anna, who had been silently watching from the door, chimed in. "You could always try green tea. It’s supposed to be calming."

Melanie turned slowly, glaring at Anna with the intensity of someone who had just been asked to give up oxygen. "Tea," she said, as if the word were foreign and offensive. "Tea is not coffee, Anna."

Shannon laughed, kicking back her chair. "Alright, drama queen, calm down. We’ll figure something out."

"Mel’s right, though," Anna added, her usual playful tone gone. "This is bad. We all need coffee. Even you, Shannon, as cool as you’re playing it, are running on fumes from that espresso shot binge this morning."

Shannon rubbed her temple and groaned, her caffeine high clearly fading. "Fine. I could use more coffee. But that doesn’t mean we can’t survive without it."

The door to the break room creaked open, and Jim strolled in, a thermos in hand, sipping slowly. The moment Melanie saw him, her eyes lit up with a mix of desperation and hope. He had coffee. Real, hot, life-giving coffee.

"Jim," Melanie started, her voice soft, almost coy. She sidled up to him, smiling sweetly. "My favorite tech genius in the whole world. You know that, right? I mean, you’re basically a hero to me."

Jim raised an eyebrow, amused. "Uh-huh. What do you want, Mel?"

Melanie’s gaze zeroed in on the thermos. "Just a sip. Just one little sip of that glorious, beautiful coffee you’re holding. Please."

Shannon snorted from the table. "Mel, don’t make it weird."

Mel shot her a look. "Quiet, you. I’m working."

Jim looked at Melanie, who was practically leaning on him now. "Mel, I love you, but… this coffee is mine. You know I don’t mess around when it comes to my morning brew."

Melanie froze, blinking rapidly. "Wait… did you just say you… love me?"

Jim’s expression shifted, his calm demeanor giving way to mild panic. "Uh… yeah, I guess I did."

Melanie stared at him for a moment, her caffeine-deprived brain struggling to catch up. "You… you never said that before."

Jim smiled awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck. "Well, I guess now’s as good a time as any."

Shannon, sensing the tension, cleared her throat. "Well, this is a great moment and all, but can we get back to the real issue here? We have no coffee, and Mel’s about two seconds away from crawling into Jim’s thermos."

Jim chuckled, his smile more relaxed now. "Look, I’ll share my coffee if you stop acting like a junkie trying to get a fix."

Melanie sighed dramatically. "Fine. You win. But only because you said you love me."

Jim grinned and poured a bit of his coffee into Melanie’s mug. "There. Now you can stop begging."

Melanie took a sip, sighing contentedly. "Okay, I’m alive again. For now."

Just as the team began to relax slightly, the door opened again, and Anna wheeled in the client for the day. Melanie looked up, instantly annoyed that her precious coffee moment was being interrupted. The man being wheeled in was none other than a well-known travel blogger, someone who had made a career out of romanticizing his exotic adventures while simultaneously expecting admiration from foreign women simply for being "exotic and white."

Brad—or "TravelerBrad" as he was known online—had the usual arrogant air about him. Even strapped to the gurney, he smirked at the team, clearly unaware of what awaited him.

"Ah, I see you’ve finally brought me in," Brad said, his voice dripping with entitlement. "Well, I suppose I’ll let you ladies have your fun with me. I’ve been all over the world. This’ll be just another story for the blog."

Melanie rolled her eyes, already irritated. "Yeah, sure. A real adventure for you, Brad."

Shannon stood, stretching her arms out as if shaking off her own coffee jitters. "I hope you enjoyed your travels, because this might be the last trip you ever take."

Brad raised an eyebrow, his smirk unwavering. "Oh, please. What can you possibly do to me? I’ve been admired by women on every continent. They practically throw themselves at me."

Anna made a gagging sound from the back, and Melanie couldn’t help but smirk. "Wow. You’re really doubling down on being a creep, huh? No wonder you’re here."

Jim remained in the background, quietly observing while taking another sip of his precious coffee. He seemed calm, but Melanie caught the way his eyes flicked between the team and Brad. There was a slight tension there, as if even Jim found this particular client especially obnoxious.

Melanie adjusted the controls on the machine, glancing at Shannon. "Ready to start?"

"Born ready," Shannon replied, her hyper energy from earlier settling into something more focused. "Let’s see what kind of cultural lesson we can teach this guy."

The machine hummed to life, and as the transformation began, Brad’s cocky attitude quickly started to wane. His body began to shift—his chest narrowing, his muscles softening. His once confident smirk faded as he watched his own body betray him.

"What the…?" he muttered, eyes wide in horror as he saw his frame becoming smaller, more delicate. "What’s happening?"

Shannon leaned over, grinning. "Oh, you’ll find out soon enough, Brad."

The next change hit him hard. His masculine features softened further, his facial structure becoming more refined, feminine. His legs lengthened slightly, hips widening as his waist slimmed down. His once sharp jawline smoothed, and his hair darkened to a rich black, growing longer as it cascaded down to his shoulders.

"Wait… no! You can’t do this!" Brad stammered, his voice rising slightly in pitch. "I’m… I’m a man! I’ve been all over the world!"

"And now you’re going to be someone new," Melanie said, her voice cool as she adjusted the settings. "Welcome to your new life."

The transformation continued, and soon Brad’s gender was no longer in question. He gasped, his eyes darting down as his male anatomy shrank, disappeared, and was replaced with its female equivalent. His hands flew to his chest as he realized his body was now fully that of a woman—a petite, yet curvaceous figure.

"N-no!" Brad’s voice wavered, now much higher, with a soft, feminine lilt. "You can’t just—what is this?"

But the most dramatic shift came not just in his body, but in his voice and the way he spoke. The machine had subtly adjusted his speech, giving him the accent and tone of someone who was learning English as a second language. His voice was now laced with a thick Farsi accent, his words halting as he tried to speak.

"Wh-where am I?" he stammered, his voice tinged with panic. "What… what happened to me?"

Shannon raised an eyebrow, a grin playing on her lips. "Oh, you know, Brad. We figured since you love exotic adventures so much, we’d give you a little cultural flavor. How does it feel, being the one who’s different now?"

The new woman blinked, her eyes wide and confused. "I… I do not understand. What is this place? Why am I here?"

Melanie smirked, but her tone was casual. "You’re in our care now. And don’t worry—you’ll adjust."

The transformation was complete, and the woman who had once been Brad sat there, her body shaking slightly as she tried to process what had just happened. Her mind, still very much Brad’s, struggled with the new reality of being trapped in this foreign, feminine form.

"I… I do not belong here," she said softly, her thick accent making her words sound even more uncertain. "I… I was traveling. I was exploring…"

"Yeah, well, consider this your final destination," Shannon said, a little more sharply than she intended. Even she was starting to feel the weight of the caffeine withdrawal, and dealing with Brad had taken more energy than usual.

Jim, still sipping his coffee, glanced over at Melanie. "You okay?"

Melanie, distracted by the transformation, blinked and then nodded. "Yeah… just tired. And, you know… thinking about what you said earlier."

Jim smiled, setting down his thermos. "You mean when I said I love you?"

Melanie’s cheeks turned bright pink.

Melanie stood there, frozen for a moment, staring at Jim. Her mind was still processing the transformation in front of her, but Jim's words—"I love you"—played on a loop in her head. It was as if the entire world had gone silent for a few seconds, and nothing else mattered except what he had just said.

But then, she blinked, a mischievous grin slowly spreading across her face. She glanced at Jim’s thermos—the coveted coffee source that had been teasing her senses for the past several minutes. There was only one way to get what she wanted.

Without another word, Melanie darted toward Jim, catching him off guard as she wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him into a deep kiss. For a split second, Jim’s eyes widened in surprise, but then he melted into the kiss, his arms slipping around her waist as he held her close.

From the corner of the room, Shannon rolled her eyes with a smirk. “Oh, here we go. Public display of caffeine desperation.”

As Melanie kept her lips locked with Jim’s, she very slowly, very deliberately inched one hand down toward his thermos. She grasped the top of it gently, her fingers curling around it as she continued to kiss him. Jim, however, wasn’t as oblivious as she’d hoped. He felt her subtle movement and smirked into the kiss, pulling the thermos just out of reach with one hand while holding her tight with the other.

“You’re really going for it, huh?” he mumbled against her lips, chuckling softly.

Melanie tried to look innocent, still hanging onto him. “I have no idea what you’re talking about. I just love you, and I’m really happy you said it.”

“Mhm. Sure,” Jim teased, twisting slightly to keep the thermos away. “Is this love, or are you just trying to steal my coffee?”

“Can’t it be both?” Melanie laughed, playfully reaching for the thermos again, but Jim pulled it further out of reach, still holding her close.

Meanwhile, Shannon had turned her attention back to the newly transformed woman. She walked over to the clothing rack they kept for clients and started rummaging through the options. “So, uh… we’re going to call you Yasmin,” Shannon said, deciding on an Arabic name.

“It suits you. And trust me, you’re going to have some, uh, new experiences as Yasmin.”

Yasmin—formerly Brad—blinked, her large dark eyes still wide with confusion. Her accent was thick and halting as she spoke. “Wh-what you mean? I… I am not… I do not understand.”

Shannon smiled sympathetically, pulling out a flowing, modest dress from the rack and holding it up to Yasmin’s newly transformed body. “It means you’re going to learn a lot about what it’s like to be on the other side. You’ve traveled a lot, right? Well, think of this as your latest adventure.”

Yasmin’s lip trembled slightly as she looked down at herself, still trying to process the changes. “I… I do not want this adventure. I want to go back.”

Shannon shook her head gently. “Sorry, but that’s not an option. You’ll be learning what it’s like to be the one who’s different, the one who stands out for all the wrong reasons. And don’t worry, we’ll make sure you’re dressed properly for the role.”

She turned back to the clothing rack and continued rummaging, muttering to herself. “Let’s see… we need something that’ll make you feel at home in your new skin. How about this?”

She pulled out a traditional outfit—a long, flowing abaya—and handed it to Yasmin. “This should fit nicely. Go ahead, try it on.”

Yasmin hesitated, looking down at the fabric with a mix of bewilderment and dread. “I… I cannot wear this.”

Shannon sighed, placing her hands on her hips. “You don’t really have a choice. This is your life now, Yasmin. You wanted to feel exotic? Well, now you’ll know what it’s like to be on the other side of that coin.”

Yasmin stared at the abaya, her hands trembling slightly as she took the garment and held it against her body. Shannon turned back to the clothing rack, her mind already wandering as she thought about how strange the day had turned out. It wasn’t often they had to deal with a client who was so vocal about wanting to go back.

Behind her, she heard Jim and Melanie still playfully wrestling over the thermos.

“Jim, come on!” Melanie’s voice was filled with mock frustration. “I just need one more sip. Please?”

Jim laughed, twisting the thermos away from her grasp again. “Mel, I love you, but this is mine. You’re not getting it.”

Melanie groaned dramatically, but her grin never faded. In a swift move, she darted around him, grabbed the thermos with both hands, and bolted for the door, laughing as she made her escape.

“Mel!” Jim called after her, his laughter following her as he chased her out of the room. “You’re such a thief!”

Shannon shook her head, watching them run off. “Great. There goes my chance for any coffee today.”

Yasmin, still holding the abaya, looked up at Shannon, her voice quiet and uncertain. “They… they are in love?”

Shannon glanced back at Yasmin, her expression softening. “Yeah, they are. Strange as it seems, those two are a pretty good match.”

Yasmin looked down at the dress in her hands, her accent heavy as she spoke again. “I… I have never been loved like that.”

Shannon sighed, running a hand through her blonde ponytail. “Well, Yasmin, maybe this will be a new experience for you in more ways than one. It’s not about being loved for who you were before. It’s about who you can become.”

Yasmin frowned, still struggling to accept her new reality. “I… I do not know what to become.”

Shannon gave her a small, reassuring smile. “That’s something you’ll figure out over time. But for now, let’s get you dressed.”

As Yasmin slowly began changing into the abaya, Shannon watched her carefully. Yasmin had no idea what lay ahead, but for now, the transformation was complete. Shannon had a feeling that, despite everything, this journey would teach Yasmin more about herself than she could have ever imagined.

Shannon chuckled, shaking her head as she followed the sound of their playful chase, knowing full well that Melanie wasn’t going to give up that thermos without a fight.

And just as Shannon was about to leave the room, she heard Jim’s voice echoing down the hallway.

“Mel! You still have my coffee!”
