I sat in the corner of the bustling Hooters, nursing my drink and glaring at my ex, Daniel. He sat with a few of his friends, their faces lined with concern as they tried to console him. They were idiots—Daniel had been nothing but trouble, and yet here they were, treating him like some kind of saint. Sure, he had always been sweet and attentive, but he was so annoyingly perfect that it drove me crazy. He never once stood up to me, never challenged me, always going along with whatever I wanted. It was sickening.
He laughed weakly at something one of his friends said, and it made my blood boil. How could he laugh after everything he put me through? I remembered one time he had forgotten to text me goodnight because he was stuck at work late. It was a small thing, but to me, it felt like the end of the world. I clung to that one moment, letting it overshadow the countless times he had been there for me, supported me, and loved me unconditionally. As far as I was concerned, that single lapse was enough to justify everything I was about to do.
I focused on him, letting my bitterness fuel the spell I was weaving. His laughter faltered for a moment as he shrank by an inch, his posture subtly changing. His friends didn't notice, too engrossed in their conversation. I leaned back, satisfied that the first step was complete. No longer would he be the tall, imposing figure he once was.
Daniel's hair was next. He had always kept it short and neat, which irritated me for no good reason. I whispered another incantation, and his hair began to grow, softening and lightening until it was a glossy, platinum blonde. He reached up, confused, but his friends just patted him on the back, assuming he was adjusting his hair out of nervousness.
I remembered how he had always been so kind to waitstaff, tipping generously and making sure they felt appreciated. It annoyed me because it made me feel like he was showing off. I decided his hands should be more delicate, more suited for serving others. I concentrated, and his fingers grew slender and graceful, perfect for handling trays and drinks. He looked down at his hands, bewildered, but no one else noticed the change.
The more I thought about our relationship, the more I realized how much he had overshadowed me. Everyone loved him—his friends, his family, even strangers. It wasn't fair. He had to learn what it felt like to be overlooked. I whispered another spell, and his chest began to swell, slowly at first, then more rapidly. His shirt stretched, buttons straining as his breasts grew larger and rounder. Soon, he had the bustiest figure in the building, even more pronounced than the other waitresses.
I watched as his friends continued to talk to him, completely oblivious to his transformation. It was as if reality had shifted, and Daniel had always been this voluptuous blonde woman. I smirked, savoring the irony. He adjusted his top, his new breasts pushing against the fabric, and no one batted an eye.
Now it was time to adjust his outfit. His casual clothes morphed into the tight, revealing uniform of a Hooters waitress. The orange shorts hugged his now curvy hips, and the white tank top showcased his ample chest. He blinked, looking down in shock, but his friends just smiled and encouraged him to go take some orders. It was as if they had always known him as Dani, the bubbly waitress.
Daniel—or rather, Dani—stood up, balancing expertly on high heels. She moved through the restaurant with a newfound grace, hips swaying with each step. I could see her settling into the role, a wide smile spreading across her face. It was maddening. How could she be so happy? How could everyone love her so much?
As she walked by, taking orders and charming customers, I noticed Daniel's best friend, Mark, watching her with adoration in his eyes. They exchanged a look, and I could see the affection between them. My spell had altered their reality, erasing my relationship with Daniel entirely. Now, it was as if Dani and Mark had always been in love.
A part of me wondered if Daniel had secretly been transgender all along, and the thought infuriated me. Why did everything always work out for him? Why did people always adore him, no matter what form he took?
I watched in disbelief as Mark got down on one knee in the middle of the restaurant, holding up a ring. Dani's face lit up with pure joy, and she nodded eagerly. The entire restaurant erupted in cheers and applause as Mark slipped the ring onto her finger. Dani threw her arms around him, kissing him passionately, her new breasts pressing against his chest.
I stood up, seething with rage. I had intended to make his life miserable, but instead, he—or rather, she—had found happiness. It was infuriating. I stormed out of the restaurant, the sounds of celebration ringing in my ears. As I walked away, I couldn't help but think, "Why does everyone always like him?" It was a bitter pill to swallow, but in the end, I realized that perhaps, just perhaps, I was the one who needed to change.
But then again, maybe not. He deserved everything he got. And if he was happy? Well, at least I wasn't there to see it. But that nagging thought remained: was he always meant to be Dani? And that, more than anything, drove me mad. He should be miserable! My spell should have done that. Reality might be what I make of it, but I guess sometimes, justice has a mind of its own.
