Boxing Day dawned in the household of John and Sarah, but the festive joy of Christmas had given way to the less glamorous task of tidying up. The living room was a landscape of crumpled wrapping paper, scattered toys, and half-eaten mince pies. Sarah, barely noticeably pregnant and visibly tired, was picking up the remnants of the previous day’s celebration. John, on the other hand, was sprawled on the couch, eyes glued to the TV.
"John, could you please help me clean up?" Sarah's voice was strained, echoing in the cluttered room.
John barely glanced away from the screen. "Sure, you've got this, you're not THAT pregnant yet," he mumbled, his attention unwavering from the TV show.
Sarah sighed, a mix of frustration and fatigue in her breath. "I wish you had to deal with this endless exhaustion," she said quietly, more to herself than to John.
As she spoke, John felt a wave of fatigue wash over him. His eyelids grew heavy, and his limbs felt like they were made of lead. He tried to shake off the feeling, but it clung to him stubbornly.
"Ugh, what's wrong with me?" he groaned, trying to sit up but finding even that small movement took tremendous effort.
Sarah, her back turned as she continued to tidy, didn’t seem to notice. "I wish you understood what it's like to have your body swollen and achy all the time," she continued, a hint of bitterness in her voice.
John's body responded almost immediately. He felt a peculiar sensation in his feet and hands as they began to swell, feeling tight and uncomfortable. He looked down in disbelief as his fingers and toes bloomed like overfilled balloons.
"Sarah, something weird is happening," he called out, panic rising in his voice. But Sarah, lost in her thoughts and frustrations, didn’t hear him.
"I wish you could feel these jabs and kicks all day and night," she said, rubbing her belly absentmindedly.
No sooner had she spoken than John felt a flutter in his abdomen. It was soft at first, like the wings of a butterfly, but soon it grew stronger, more insistent. He clutched at his stomach, feeling an alien movement within, his eyes wide with shock.
"Sarah! Please, look at me!" he cried out.
Sarah finally turned and gasped. John, once lean and athletic, now bore a striking resemblance to her own pregnant form. His belly was round and prominent, his posture awkward as he tried to balance the new weight.
As she watched, transfixed, her surprise turned to a realization of power. "I wish you knew what it feels like to have your skin stretch and itch," she said, a newfound confidence in her voice.
John's skin began to tingle and stretch, feeling like it was being pulled over too much space. He itched all over, desperately wanting to scratch but knowing it wouldn't alleviate the discomfort.
"And those mood swings, the crying at commercials," Sarah continued, her voice stronger now.
John's emotions turned tumultuous, laughter and tears coming in rapid succession, his mental state as malleable as clay. He felt overwhelmed, unable to control the emotional rollercoaster he was suddenly on.
Sarah, now almost gleeful, went on. "I wish you had cravings at odd hours, never knowing what you want."
John's stomach growled, a craving for something he couldn’t quite identify making his mouth water and his mind foggy with need.
“And the endless bathroom trips, night after night," Sarah added, almost laughing now.
John felt a sudden pressure on his bladder, the urge to urinate overwhelming and incessant. He stood up, awkwardly trying to balance his new form, and staggered toward the bathroom.
Sarah watched as John stumbled around, clumsy in his unfamiliar body. "I wish you had these breasts, heavy and tender," she said, watching as John's chest began to swell, the fabric of his shirt straining against his growing breasts.
John clutched at his chest, feeling the weight and sensitivity of his new breasts. He looked at Sarah with eyes full of disbelief and fear.
Sarah's tone softened slightly, but the mischievous glint in her eye remained. "And I wish you had this hair, long and always in the way."
John felt his hair growing, cascading down his back in a white waterfall, tickling his skin and falling into his eyes.
"And let's not forget the heartburn and the inability to get comfortable, no matter how you sit or lie down," she said, her voice tinged with a mix of empathy and retribution.
John felt a burning sensation in his chest and a restlessness that made him shift continuously, seeking a position that no longer existed for comfort.
Finally, Sarah said with a chuckle, "I wish you had to deal with people's unsolicited belly touches and advice, always commenting on your size."
As if on cue, John felt an imaginary hand press against his belly, and he heard echoes of comments about how 'big' he had gotten. He looked at Sarah, his eyes pleading for understanding, for an end to this transformation.
Sarah walked over to him, her expression softening as she took in the sight of her husband, now a mirror image of her own pregnant state. "You look so cute, little momma, take a seat you are really THAT pregnant" she teased, a laugh escaping her lips.
Leaving John standing there, a mix of confusion and realization on his face, she walked out of the room. John, now 'Jenny,' stood amidst the Christmas chaos, his – no, her – mind racing with the enormity of the situation.
