Dustin had been out of college for a few years now, and had started law school. His connections made it likely that within a few years of graduating he could be close to a partner and then after that the sky was the limit, did he want a spot on the bench? Political aspirations?
He credited a lot of his success to the connections he made from his old fraternity. There were brothers everywhere and eventually someone knew someone and boom he was getting a pass to easy street. He had a break between classes and thought about how much he loved his life. It was easy to forget just 16 short years ago his family had been forced to flee their home in Mosul.
Wait what was that thought? He was born in Kansas. She was 3rd generation at his law school. He had been a refugee right? First wandering through Europe going hungry most nights, until when he was 13 they finally got to the US where his father worked day and night to keep them in clothes and school.
This new history was being written into his brain he couldn't remember the town in Kansas he'd lived in or basic male things like peeing standing up. It was like his brain was being washed just like that.....washed like that....awhashlikethat.....ashlirtat...ashrawat...Ashraqat. That was her name. She panicked realizing she was out without a hijab and felt naked. She wore one to honor her father but he would never force her to.
She quickly reached into her backpack and pulled out a dark grey one. She pulled her white duster out too and put that on. Upon tucking the hijab, which was pulled way tighter than she would have thought need, she felt her body plump out a little, giving curves to her body. She was proud of them as and woman should be. She picked up the anatomy book she dropped and headed towards the sorority house. It would be nice to get home and call her father, she hoped he was proud.
