When Mina Ashido was excited, you could tell. Usually this was simply due to being outspoken and expressive, but even when she was trying to hide it to some degree, you could tell. Even if she controlled her expression, her body made it simply impossible to hide her emotions. This would have been true even in a familiar world where she was of an average size and stature, but was brought to its logical extreme in a world where Mina’s genetics and eating habits had made her bigger. Her pink skin, dark sclera, and frizzy pink hair were now perhaps her least distinctive features, and her most being what she had most of, which was sheer mass.

Mina’s body shook as she wandered towards the entrance of the UA girls’ dormitory for the fifth time that morning, her footsteps causing heavy thumping as the floorboards occasionally creaked under her weight. At a towering ten feet tall, Mina would have been enough of a handful with that alone, were it not for a voracious appetite that befit a seemingly bottomless stomach. Mina’s cute face was softened further by a rim of fat, huge, cherubic cheeks with a hefty second chin that seemed to have replaced her neck altogether, squashing and stretching as she looked down at most others, or when she smiled brightly as always, currently with a goofy grin on her face whenever she thought nobody was watching. Dressed casually and unrestrained despite her weight, Mina wore a tank-top and short-shorts, but neither seemed remotely adequate for her bulk. She had an enormous double-rolled gut that sagged out from under her top, and over her shorts down to her shins and obscured most of her shorts from the front, with bulging love-handles hanging over the sides.

And yet, that huge gut wasn’t the biggest concentration of her fat, her body built by non-stop eating since childhood. Her arms were thicker and wider than even the curvy hips of Momo Yaoyorozu, huge and pillowy, and at least one of her roommates had fallen asleep on one after a late-night movie marathon, Mina bragging afterwards that her whole arm had enough to make a blanket, which the others weren’t sure she should be proud of. Her chest was surprisingly modest by the standards of her body, “merely” the size of her head each and dwarfed by her other features. Her lower half formed a wall none could see past and from hip to hip was wider than most double-doors, the dormitory having to be built to accommodate her, with her bedroom being easily spotted by its distinctively wide doors. When it came to trying to visit the other bedrooms, others cautiously took bets on whether or not this time she had finally grown fat enough to get firmly wedged in the doorway even going through it sideways, only for her to just barely squeeze through each time.

The result was a veritable mountain of a woman almost as wide as she was tall and made the floor tremble when she walked, an energetic pile of pink jelly that nonetheless managed to easily keep up with the constant cardio and strenuous exercise that UA demanded of their hero course. Heroes with unusual size and stature were nothing unexpected with the diversity of bodies and appearances that Quirks had caused, but most had expected Mina to gasp and wheeze after a couple dozen steps. They would instead find that she had more than enough energy to haul her massive body around for hours, and carrying such an enormously heavy body around had given her already formidable physical strength a well-needed boost that gave her brawn on top of her Quirk. Her hero internship with the plus-sized hero Fat Gum had been a natural fit, and she’d come back bigger than ever after that with a declaration that she might have just found her pro hero idol. Although she took some getting used to, she was well-liked by her classmates and had settled in easily, although cohabitation with her had proved to take some manoeuvring.

This made the other girls all the more acutely aware of her usual behaviour this morning, constantly checking to see if someone had arrived, looking distracted during her bloated breakfast, and when she was on her feet she was always shifting, her body wobbling left and right. The other girls had been discussing what it might be, hiding around corners and whispering behind her back.

“So Mina, what’s the good news?” Uraraka finally asked, floating out from her hiding place and up to eye-level with the oversized girl. She’d gotten into the habit after being tired of craning her neck upwards all the time.

“Oh, you know, nothing.” She said in a sing-song voice that failed to convince the others that it was no big deal. “I just invited a friend over. They should be here any minute now…”

Uraraka glanced back at the gaggle of girls around the corner, who furiously nodded for her to press for details.

“Really? That sounds nice.” She said innocently. “Are they from another school, or…”

“They’re from the general studies class. We don’t get to see each other much thanks to the hero course, so we decided to meet up today.” Mina said happily, oblivious to the others. Uraraka decided to throw caution to the wind and go for it.

“A girl friend or a guy friend?” Uraraka asked eagerly, the other girls holding their breath, confident they could guess the answer.

“Huh? Yeah, it’s a guy.” Mina said as if unsure why she seemed to be stressing the question.

“Mina has a boyfriend!?” Exclaimed Toru, the invisible but certainly not silent girl, the others hissing at her far too late to shut up. Toru let out an eek and tripped over her own feet, causing the group to lose their coordination

“Huh? What’re you guys doing over there?” Mina asked innocently as the group babbled out inconsistent excuses.

“So, Miss Ashido,” Momo asked, smoothing off her uniform as the group gathered around the dorm living room couches. Mina took up an entire sofa on her own, and the rest were squashed together onto the other. “What’s your boyfriend like?”

“Geez, he’s not my boyfriend!” Mina blushed.

“He’s definitely her boyfriend!” Jiro whispered into others’ ears, getting a collective nod.

“I heard that!” Mina complained. “We’ve just known each other forever, okay? Haven’t you ever heard of a childhood friend?”

“Childhood friends…!” The ever-romantic Momo’s eyes gleamed as a hundred romantic clichés ran through her head.

“You must be pretty close then.” Jiro said diplomatically.

“You could say that.” Mina rubbed the back of her fluffy hair. “He used to always stick up for me when we were little and I was being bullied for being bigger than everybody else.”

“How dashing!” Momo clapped her hands together. “But he’s not in the hero course? He sounds like he’d be a natural fit.”

“Yeah, he had everything going for him except for being Quirkless.” Mina said, sounding a little disappointed before perking up again. “Still, he said it was his dream to make it into UA, and he did, even if it’s not the hero course.”

“So, what’s he like?” Tsuyu asked, perched in a frog-like pose on the arm of the chair.

“See for yourself! He should be ” Mina shrugged, then pouted at them a little, putting her hands on her hips as she rose from the recess she had caused in the sofa. “We’re just gonna hang out for a while, okay? You guys are making this sound like it’s some kind of big deal just because he’s a guy!”

Mina refused to answer any more questions, leading to rapid speculation from the others until finally, perfectly on the turn of the hour, they heard a knock at the door. Mina perked up and dashed for the door, announcing herself to the visitor with thunderous footsteps. The other girls were braced in anticipation, until they realised that they couldn’t actually see past the doorway with Mina in the way.

“Sorry, I hope I’m not late!” Said a clearly male voice, although not particularly deep.

“No, you’re right on time, Izuku!!” Mina said cheerfully, ushering him in. It looked like she had gotten ahead of herself by checking to see if he’d come early.

The boy who nervously entered the dorm wasn’t quite what any of them expected. Momo had assumed some tall, muscular prince with the beef to keep up with her size. Jiro had pictured more of a party boy who could keep up with Mina’s energy and attitude. For the others, they simply hadn’t expected a scrawny string-bean who was barely half her height, and shorter than most of the not-particularly-above-average girls assembled. Mina gave him a quick hug, the boy nearly vanishing into her fat as he sunk into her and was released gasping for air, Mina seemingly oblivious to his plight.

“Girls, this is Izuku, my childhood friend! Say hello!” Mina said as she swung around to face the girls, who were on their feet but had a similar problem.

“We can’t see him.” Uraraka pointed out sensitively, Izuku having to scurry out from behind her.

“What’re you doing hiding back there, come out and introduce yourself!” Mina enthusiastically slapped him on the back, sending him stumbling forward. Tsuyu winced, hoping she wouldn’t snap the poor boy in half. Izuku gulped, not used to being in a room full of nothing but girls.

“I-I’m Izuku Midoriya! Nice to meet you!” He bowed his head quickly in turn to them. “T-Thanks for always taking care of Mina!”

Jiro hid a laugh. Mina sure picked up a nice guy.

“I thought you’d be taller. And you’ve got no muscle either! Based on Mina’s description I had much higher hopes for you.” Momo somewhat insensitively sized him up, trying to determine based on first impression if he was a good fit for their Mina. Tsuyu approached him as well, catching him off-guard with the unintentional intensity of her frog-like stare.

“He’s awfully short.” Tsuyu pointed out, holding up a hand from the top of his head as high as she could reach, which came short of Mina’s face. “Are you sure that won’t be a problem when you’re, you know…”

Tsuyu tapped the tips of her fingers together, which didn’t help the furiously sweating Midoriya. To make matters worse, Momo, well-intentioned at heart, nodded in agreement.

“Mina, would you like me to put him through a proper training regimen at one of our company’s gyms? As he is now, I’m not sure he’ll…”

A huge shadow loomed over her, and she looked up and went pale as Mina stood over her, arms crossed between her belly and her bust. Mina began to advance on the two girls until Momo and Tsuyu found themselves backed into a corner, almost pressed against a wall by Mina’s bulk.

“We can’t control how big or small we are, can we?” Mina was unamused.

“Of course not! I was implying nothing of the sort!” Momo said desperately as she flattened herself against the wall, trying not to be smothered as she noticed Tsuyu begin to sink into Mina’s belly fat. “I was just thinking of recommending a workout routine! In case he has to do any, um, heavy lifting in the future!”

“I suppose that wouldn’t hurt.” Mina admitted reluctantly. “But that’s weird to say to somebody you just met! And besides, he’s fine the way he is!”

“Um…” Izuku interrupted sheepishly, feeling like he should break this up. “I’m sure they didn’t mean anything by it…”

“Don’t pay any mind to them, Izuku. Let’s go get ourselves some privacy!” She said, hmphing as she picked him up by his collar with a single finger, lifting him effortlessly off his feet and placing him under her arm, Izuku protested awkwardly as he was whisked away between her breast and bicep flab.

“He seems nice.” Uraraka smiled, figuring Mina was in good hands. “He’s kinda cute too…”

“What’s up with those guys today? They’re acting like they’ve never seen a boy before.” Mina pouted as she deposited Izuku on the king-sized bed she needed to contain her width. She sat down next to him, pulling him in onto her huge body.

“I’m sure they didn’t mean anything wrong by it.” He reassured her, Mina rolling her eyes in response.

“We’re supposed to stick up for and protect each other, right?” Mina reminded him. “I just haven’t had a chance in a while. It used to be like this all the time, they’d make fun of me for being so big, and they'd bully you for being short and Quirkless.”

“I don’t know how much they listened to me, though.” Izuku said, looking disappointed with himself. “I should have done a lot more, when you were around they were too scared of you to do anything to me. I could never have that same effect…”

“Hey! Don’t say that about yourself!” Mina interrupted his self-depreciating, grabbing both sides of his head with her chubby hands. She slowly forced his head to look upwards, then on second thought, lifted him up onto the top of his belly, the closest he could get to being face to face with her.

“It was easy for me to take care of you. I was so big, what were they gonna do?” Mina pointed out. “I didn’t have to act all big, I was big! They started running as soon as they saw me towards the end.  It’s way, way braver to try to protect somebody when you’re weak to begin with! You even made it into UA like you always said you would, even if it’s not in the hero course! So don’t look down on yourself like that, I won’t let you! I’m sure no matter what, you’ll protect me like you always have!”

Mina’s eyes were fiery and passionate, then she seemed to notice herself and calmed down, giggling a little.

“Of course, I'll be even bigger by the time we graduate! Sorry Izuku, it’s gonna get even harder for you.” She laughed, Izuku smiling back.

“I’ll do my best to keep up!” He promised.

“You’d better! I’m gonna need my best friend supporting me if I’m gonna cut it as a pro hero!” She smiled, Izuku entranced by her face. He sniffed a little, getting easily teary-eyed as usual. In a moment of impulsiveness he wrapped his arms around her neck, finding it impossible to get his arms around her shoulders and difficult enough with just the neck, giving her a small kiss on her second or third chin, the closest he could make it to her lips. For once, he really wished he were taller.

Mina went bright red, her flushed cheeks visible even with her pink skin, and she wasn’t sure whether to hug him back or push him off and send him tumbling down.

“L-Let’s save the sappy stuff for after we graduate, okay? Those guys might be hiding behind the door, and one of my roommates is invisible! What if she’s in the room right now!?” She stuttered, Izuku hiding his face in embarrassment as the two were unsure of what to say to each other. She tenderly lifted him off and back onto the bed, the two unable to break the silence for a full minute until Mina finally forced herself.

“Anyway, let’s play some video games or something! We’ve got the whole day ahead of us!” She declared, Izuku nodding happily and sitting on the corner of the bed next to her huge hip, looking forward to the future…
