Under the hot midday sun, Princess Jasmine strolled through the busy streets in the marketplace of Agrabah, dressed in her usual disguise of a raggedy brown dress and headscarf to hide her delicate skin and royal features, unblemished by the harshness of a common life. Although she usually came to sightsee and to appreciate what life was like outside of her sheltered existence at the palace, this time Jasmine had decided to get a little more hands on. She innocently passed by vendors of trinkets and sundries, her hands stealthily snaking out and lifting away small, easily hidden objects that made their way up her sleeves or into her pockets, taken when the seller’s backs were turned or they were distracted by paying customers. By the time they noticed what was missing Jasmine was gone, onto her next target. Jasmine was glad that her headscarf hid her smile, unable to contain herself at the thrill of what she was doing. The princess herself, stealing? The fact that it was so unthinkable was what gave it such an irresistible allure now that she had started. She had originally intended to take just one or two things, a cup here, a cheap necklace there, but now that she had started she couldn’t help but push her luck.

At the centre of this desire was the argument she’s had with Aladdin earlier that day, in which he had admittedly correctly accused her of not knowing what life really was like on the streets, a back and forth that had ended in Jasmine storming off and insisting that she was more than capable of living life as a street rat, as Aladdin often jokingly and seriously referring to himself as. He had accused her of not having the street-smarts to get away with stealing to survive, leading to the situation she had found herself in, pilfering anything she felt she could get away with. Of course, she made sure only to take nigh-worthless things, and fully intended to put them back where she found them later. In that sense she was purely posturing, trying to replicate an act with none of the fear of serious consequences, treating it instead as a game to be won between her and Aladdin. Of course, to the sheltered princess, she hardly realised this, and felt that she was doing rather well for herself. Perhaps she had a talent for it!

As her success grew, so did her boldness. Perhaps it was time to challenge herself with a little pickpocketing? Weaving her way through the crowds into an alleyway, Jasmine saw an old man with a long, scraggly beard hobbling down the tight corridor with the help of a walking stick, clearly blind from his milky white eyes and sweeping movements with his stick. He had a small coinpurse hanging from his waist, clearly nearly empty and with only a few coins jangling around in it. For most, one would have thought of targeting this poor man as kicking him while he was down, but for Jasmine, in her arrogance she saw him as merely an easy mark. Blind, feeble, and he only had a few coins to lose in the first place, surely nothing serious if it went missing for a few minutes before she tapped him on the shoulder and informed him that he had dropped it. No harm done, right? And if she messed it up, she could just claim that she tripped.

Jasmine casually walked past him, her deft hand flickering out and working the coinpurse free of its strings with surprisingly little effort. With just a little tug it came free, Jasmine grinning as she slid it up her sleeve and stepped past, only to let out a squeak as that hand was suddenly caught in an iron grip, yanked back to face the man with a furious snarl on his face.

“You dirty thief!” He said, brandishing his cane. “You street rats always think you can get the better of me, don’t you, thinking this old man doesn’t know what you’re up to the moment you come near me!”

“Wait! Hang on! This is just a misunderstanding!” Jasmine squealed, trying to struggle free. “I just, you know, bumped into you! It was an accident!”

“I see, it just happened to fall into your hands, how stupid of me!” He said mockingly, squeezing her wrist until the coins fell from her fingers into the dirt.

“Okay, okay, I did it! I’m sorry!” Jasmine admitted, panicking and with no real plan for what to do once she got caught. “I didn’t mean anything by it! I was going to give it back! You have to believe me!”

“Oh, so taking others’ belongings is just a game to you? Of course it is, you filthy street rat!” It only seemed to make him angrier, and Jasmine recoiled, expecting his cane to come down on her head for a well-deserved punishment, only for no blow to come, the man instead mumbling rapidly in some language she didn’t recognise. His mumbling grew louder until he was practically shouting, then suddenly stopped.

“Why don’t you act like the rat you are?” He suggested with mirthful glee in his voice, lightly tapping her on the forehead and leaving her dazed, strangely lightheaded. By the time she regained her senses he was gone, having evaporated into the dense market crowd just outside the alleyway.

“What was up with that old fossil?” Jasmine said irritably, her heart racing as she wiped the sweat from her forehead. “I said sorry, didn’t I?”

Although she made weak excuses for herself, Jasmine knew that it was a well-earned shock. When Aladdin had said she didn’t know how to survive on the street he wasn’t talking about her ability to pilfer or forage, she was merely treating it as a quick activity to amuse herself before returning to her comfortable life. Those few coins she had treated as something so trivial she personally wouldn’t even notice they were gone might have been all he had left, and what she was doing was nothing less than tormenting him. She would have begged for his forgiveness from the bottom of her heart if he hadn’t run off, but it was too late now. The closest she could do was apologise to Aladdin instead, and…

Jasmine’s self-contemplation was interrupted by everything going dark. She frowned, realising that her headscarf had slipped, obscuring her vision. She tried to pull it up, but irritatingly, it seemed to just slip back down, Jasmine feeling ridiculous as it hung from her nose. She reached up yet again, but her sleeves dangled past her fingers, forcing her to pull them up with her annoyance rapidly increasing. Was it just her or was her outfit a lot baggier than it was a minute ago? It felt loose on her shoulders, and her normally comfortably-lengthed sleeves seemed so long it was like she was wearing something several sizes too large. In fact, as she looked down at herself, baggy was an understatement! Her clothes were far too big, the slope of her breasts no longer visible under all the creases, while her skirt laid piled up on the ground beneath her, like she wasn’t tall enough to hang around her ankles like before. Jasmine looked around in confusion, her headscarf unfurling entirely and falling to the floor, the world around her seeming a lot larger than it had a moment ago. There was no mistaking it, either everything had gotten bigger, or she was shrinking!

She was woefully undersized for her clothes, looking like a child wearing her mother’s dress, and she stumbled deeper into the alleyway away from the grounds, starting to panic. That old man, he had done something to her! It seemed that even with all of her adventures under her belt, she still couldn’t recognise a magician when she saw one, and had the poor fortune to decide to mess with one today. She could feel her body tingling with a rising intensity, most of all her nose, Jasmine pulling her her sleeve to scratch it, but no sooner than her finger touched it, it suddenly shot out, doubling or tripling in length.

“What the-” Jasmine exclaimed before the intense tingle spread to her mouth, nearly biting her tongue as her two front teeth on the top and bottom of her mouth shot outwards into long buck teeth, pressing against her lips. She yelped as she felt her whole jaw jut outwards, growing longer and more like a muzzle. Her arms could no longer reach the ends of her sleeves, shrinking rapidly and growing shorter and stubbier, while her fingernails grew into long claws that nearly tore the fabric that she desperately pulled at. Her legs cracked and grew shorter too, Jasmine buckling at her newly bent knees and falling to the ground, on all fours as she was half her original height. Her ears grew longer and wider, and she saw her long mouth and nose start to sprout fur, fur that she could feel spreading down her body. Her eyes turned a solid black and whiskers sprouted from her nose, a pink tip at the end that stood out against the grey fur that was consuming her body. She felt a tail sprout from above her ass, shooting outwards and growing to be as long as the rest of her body, wriggling about as she adjusted to the new appendage.

Still shrinking, her breasts went flat and she lost her hourglass figure as her thin waist filled out into a thick barrel shape, widening until her hips and her shoulders were just as wide as each other, and totally covered in thick fur. Her head grew larger, or perhaps stayed the same and it was her body that grew to match, it was impossible for her to tell as she was in total darkness, smothered underneath her own heap of clothing. She heard her body crack as her skeleton changed shape, with a long torso and tiny, stubby limbs at the end. Jasmine could barely reach her own face anymore, and her legs lost length until they were as tiny and short as her arms. Her transformation complete, there was a rustling from Jasmine’s clothes, looking as if she had stripped and abandoned them then wandered off somewhere, until finally, a small grey rat poked its head out, awkwardly forcing itself out, bumping against now relatively massive trinkets stored in her pockets until she found the light.

Getting her first look at herself, Jasmine tried to cry out in horror as she contorted her new head to look at her stubby pink hands, if they could be called that anymore, her long tail flicking back and forth in distress. She had become a rat, a literal street rat, a filthy little creature that Jasmine usually recoiled from merely being near! Her cries came out as mere squeaks, Jasmine trying to call out for help and being unable to form words with her new mouth, her long teeth merely clicking slightly together. The world was filled with strange new smells from her sensitive nose, Jasmine impulsively sniffing and realising just how much she could sense with that alone.Dirt and insects on the ground, savory food from the marketplace, the sweat and scent of hundreds of citizens hitting her all at once. Unable to move herself properly, Jasmine fell onto her belly, writhing around as she kicked her limbs uselessly, trying to adjust to her new proportions. With great effort she pushed herself to her feet, taking a deep breath as she tried to dispel her panic.

Calm down Jasmine, she told herself, this probably wasn’t the worst situation she had been in since she met Aladdin… although it was definitely up there. She was able to control the shock of her transformation by telling herself that while it was probably impossible to chase after the blind man who had turned her into this creature, if she could make it back to the palace, the Genie would probably be able to sniff out the scent of magic and turn her back to normal with a flick of his wrist. Yes, there was nothing to worry about at all, all she had to do was make it home, and… Jasmine craned her neck upwards to look at the gigantic world around her, seeing the veritable giants that were the people of Agrabah, colossal figures wandering past the alley, a cold shudder running down her spine as she made a worrying realisation: which way was home?

Jasmine only had a loose understanding of how to make her way through the winding city, relying on climbing to the rooftops and looking at the palace from afar. She hardly remembered the way she had came, particularly from this perspective where she could no longer even see most of the landmarks she might have otherwise recognised. And how long would it take at her diminutive size compared to walking? It had taken a few hours for her to get this far, but… no, it surely couldn’t be that bad, Jasmine tried to tell herself. Rats moved pretty quickly, didn’t they? All she had to do was run as quickly as she could and she might even be faster than a human! Plus, she could find all sorts of routes she couldn’t before, right? Jasmine was sure she could do it, she had done just fine at the thieving street urchin thing right up until it had gone horribly wrong, hadn’t she? Jasmine needed her naive optimism to not break into tears at her pathetic transformation, the comfort knowing that she had an all-powerful Genie who could turn her back to normal driving her resolve. If it weren’t for that, she might have just curled up in a corner for who knows how long, hoping that someday she might find the old man again, but now, she had a goal, she had a light at the end of the tunnel. All she had to do was put one foot in front of the other, and…

As she might have expected, Jasmine quickly found that merely doing that was much more difficult than it sounded. Her body’s structure was utterly unlike that of a human, and her assumption that it would be something like getting down on all fours was totally inaccurate. Her body’s proportions were strange, unfamiliar, and her back legs in particular moved strangely, bent in a way that was natural for her shape, but utterly unnatural for her. She shuffled awkwardly forward, her belly scraping against the sandy ground as she tried to adjust, but with each step she grew a little more familiar, taking the time to practice in the thankfully secluded alley before it was time for her to go out into the world. Her tail began to wag happily like a dog as she slowly mastered her strange new position, her hips rocking a little as she began to walk properly, albeit painfully slowly even by rat standards. It took minutes for her to reach the end of the alley, where thundering footsteps stopped her in her tracks.

Jasmine gulped, looking up at her first obstacle: foot traffic. If she could make it out of the market things would be a little safer, but it was clear to say that her first challenge was her greatest. Any one of the careless footsteps of the men and women before her could spell doom, and it was made worse by the long robes and dresses of the humans that made it difficult at times to make out their feet. Jasmine waited almost ten minutes for a gap in traffic, having several false starts where she nearly went out, then got frightened and scurried back to safety. After several deep breaths and seeing that now was the best chance she was likely to get, Jasmine charged out, stumbling awkwardly as she tried to learn to run on the fly. The sound was deafening to her sensitive ears, and the smell overwhelming. Jasmine simply focused on charging forward, diving out of the way of a sandal that nearly crushed her then and there. Barely seeing ahead of her she rushed until finally she nearly slammed her own nose into a wall, her heart racing as she reached safety under some vendor’s stall. But she hardly had time to rest before a massive broom slammed down next to her, Jasmine looking up in horror as she realised that the man running it had seen her.

“Out, out!” He said, waving the broom around and trying to crush her, Jasmine more than eager to leave as she scurried into the next stall, unable to even tell if she was going the right way she she sprinted, hoping to not attract any more attention during her brief stay in each tiny store. Unable to tell how long she ran for, she finally started to feel like she was breaking clear of the market and the foot traffic was beginning to clear up a little, although she didn’t recognise any of the scenery around her and it was still dangerously busy at this time of day. Whether she had gone towards the palace or had merely gotten further away, it was impossible to tell.

Navigating the mazelike streets of Agrabah, Jasmine trotted along for another fifteen minutes with no real indicator that she was any closer to her goal when she heard a high-pitched shriek from high above, the fur on her back sticking straight up as she was instinctively afraid. What was that sound? It was a bird, wasn’t it? All of her instincts told her she was in danger, but she didn’t consciously realise why until the cry sounded out again, and operating entirely on instinct, Jasmine flung herself to the side, just barely avoiding the claws of some kind of hawk or eagle swooping down at her, and Jasmine didn’t know or care what the difference was, only that she was in terrible danger. The bird came at her again, Jasmine sprinting for some kind of cover as it relentlessly pursued her, nearly snatching her up to have for dinner. Even in her panic, Jasmine noticed that several other rats seemed to be similarly fearful, driven from their foraging and all seeming to head for one location. Trusting the judgement of real rats more than her own right now, Jasmine followed them towards a crack in a wall, diving inside just in time for the bird to fall just short, unable to pursue them deeper.

Jasmine nearly collapsed, breathing a sigh of relief before creeping deeper into the small cave of sorts beneath somebody’s home where at least a dozen other rats were hiding, squeaking and almost chirping as they hid safely away from their natural predators and the

“I don’t suppose we can understand each other, can we?” Jasmine tried to say, along coming out as inarticulate squeaks. The other rats squeaked back, Jasmine letting out a weak smile of sorts and nearly laughing. It was a bit too fanciful to think that rats had their own language she could speak just by becoming one, and not every animal could be Iago. Still, she had attracted their attention, and the rats surrounded her, Jasmine starting to feel like they had a funny look in their eyes. The dank hole was filled with a musky scent, Jasmine finding it not unpleasant. There was a strange appeal to it that put her hair on end, and some of the rats began to rub against her, getting a little too friendly. Jasmine tried to back away, but the musk was drawing her in, and the fear of going outside was too strong to leave entirely.

“Hey!” Jasmine squeaked as one seemingly tried to climb onto her back, Jasmine wriggling free, but starting to feel strangely hot. The strange smell, the heat she felt in her body, the way the rats she could almost tell were male were looking at her… Jasmine’s eyes widened as she came to a certain realisation, but found her legs heavy and the scent of the musk clouding her judgement. She felt an uncontrollable craving in her body that could only be solved one way, and so, unable to control herself, she found herself unable to fight back as she was mounted from behind…

Two weeks later, Jasmine greedily nibbled at an old piece of… whatever it was, she couldn’t tell and didn’t care to find out, only knowing that she had found it in the trash outside of what she assumed was some kind of restaurant, it was hard to tell from the perspective of a rat. She was glad that her palate as a rat wasn’t nearly as refined as a human, barely caring about the taste as long as it filled her stomach. She rummaged around in the rest of the garbage, hoping to find something else to fill her hungry stomach, but had no luck, the other scavengers having picked it clean before she got here. She’d have to devote the rest of the day to finding something to eat, particularly hungry due to the state of her body, rather than devote it to finding a route home.

Jasmine waddled out, deciding that she’d have to go find some more trash to forage. She laughed bitterly at herself, how a princess like her was desperately picking through garbage for scraps. She had wanted to be a street rat and had certainly got it, and much like the urchins Aladdin came from, had hardly any hope for gaining a better life. She was hopelessly lost in Agrabah, unable to tell where she was and too fearful to put herself in any dangerous situations to find out. Angry humans, greedy cats, opportunistic birds of prey hanging overhead if she tried to gain a view from any rooftops, they all conspired to keep her in the shadows, hiding away beneath houses and in alleyways where she was at least safe to search the city for another day, hoping to slowly crawl her way back to the palace.

Unfortunately, it was slow going. Most of her time was consumed just surviving, and to make matters worse, her slip-up back in the hiding place had resulted in her getting pregnant, and with the short gestation period of rats, it wasn’t long before her body grew heavy with its first litter, making her even less suitable for the trek home. Jasmine had desperately hoped that she would make it to the palace before giving birth, but it was starting to feel unlikely. The idea was mortifying enough that she’d be a mother to a litter of rats, but she wondered what would happen to them if she was changed back first. She tried to keep her spirits up knowing that Aladdin and the Genie were probably searching for her, but otherwise she was miserable, missing her comfortable home, her loving family, and most of all knowing that no matter what happened to her, at least she wasn’t a filthy rat.

Carrying her bulbous body and big belly with her, Jasmine wandered away, hoping she’d find some juicy discarded food to sate her today…
