"Jessica!"
Jessica winced as her friend practically screeched over the phone, wondering what she was mad over this time. Why did elves have to be so high strung? She swore, Elevala was only ever truly nice to her when they were cooperating on their magic course at college, absorbed in the magical arts instead of maintaining her stuffy image. While she could be nice when she was happy, she was far from either of those things right now.
"Yes, Miss Nightmoon? What is it?" Jessica sighed. Best for an ordinary human like her to be polite and just put up with whatever it was, elves tended to not listen to excuses.
"I believe I remember asking you to order a meal for me, yes?" Elevala said, pacing around the room in her traditional old-fashioned robes on her end of the call.
"Yes, I do recall saying that I'd handle dinner before my flight." Jessica recalled, having been busy at the airport. She was going on a vacation for a few weeks, but had been gracious enough to take time out of her busy schedule since Elevala had been busy doing some ritual or whatever it was. "What about it?"
"I recall asking you to order the premium salad from Naruthir's."
"Oh yeah, that." Jessica remembered it now. "But that costs like, five times as much and I don't like you THAT much. Don't worry, I got a salad with the burger."
"My diet requires nothing but the most freshly grown premium ingredients, not the greasy artificial swill that you humans call food! Don't even get me started on that withered pile you call a salad." Elevala lectured her.
"If you hate it so much, then just make your own." Jessica suggested. "You can conjure up your diet whatever just like that, right?"
"I'm not STARVING, Jessica." Elevala continued to stress, trying to channel as much of her displeasure as she could through human technology. "I wouldn't subject myself to conjured food like that. My tongue can tell the difference, unlike yours. Trust me, it's no replacement, even for your human fast food."
"Listen, if you didn't plan on ever eating human food you never should have left your forest. One burger won't kill you." Jessica was beginning to tune out, she had heard it all before. She knew how to deal with elves, you just indulged them for a while until they got bored and left you alone. But right now she was in a hurry and didn't have time to put up with her.
"It very well might!" Elevala said dramatically. "This is your mistake, not mine. Take responsibility!"
"Normally I'd be happy to come over and eat it for you, but my plane takes off in like ten minutes." Jessica said, checking her watch as she wondered if she should turn her phone off for her vacation to avoid Elevala's wrath. "And I'm not gonna let you waste perfectly good food, so you'd better try eating outside your comfort zone for once! Later!"
Jessica hung up before Elevala could complain any further, hearing her angry retort cut off midway. It was just one burger, how bad could it possibly be?
--
"Humans, I swear!" Elevala swore in the elven tongue, casting her gaze down upon the wrapped burger before her. If she had known she'd get trash like this, she would have waited and ordered herself! Curse that Jessica and her easygoing human nature. She unwrapped the burger with distaste, knowing that her fridge was completely cleaned out and she had nothing else to turn to at this hour. All of the elven restaurants were closed by now and most of them hated takeout services in the first place, but she had been busy with her magic and hadn't had time to shop. She had fallen back on one of the only half-decent humans she had met, but she had been let down by humanity once again.
Her lip curled and her perfectly beautiful features creased in distaste as the dark-skinned elf began to smell the fatty, greasy burger, foreign to the immaculate forests of the elves. Honestly, how did humans eat like this? On the bright side, it was so artificial she wasn't sure if it even counted as meat anymore. It had lettuce in it, at least. Her stomach loudly protested her snobbiness over her diet, and eventually she gave in. If she was going to do this, it might as well be before it got cold. Elevala swallowed her pride, closed her eyes, and bit into the burger.
It was filthy! It was disgusting! It was... actually pretty tasty. In fact, not just pretty tasty, very tasty! She took a second bite, saturated fats invading her mouth for the first time, causing her eyes to open again in surprise. Even though she could practically taste the cheapness, it tasted great! Her eyes sparkled at the new and unfamiliar taste, wolfing down the rest of the burger. There was something addictive about it, everything in it seemed to hold a spell over her body and demand she finish it. And then, it was over. It was a pretty large burger, but it had flown by so quickly! Elevala was always one to get engrossed in what she liked, and as much as she hated to admit it, she liked this burger.
She spent the next few minutes taking it in, having quite literally never tasted anything like it before. How could this human swill defy her expectations so? Had Jessica duped her and actually bought her the food of kings? The packaging insisted the opposite, that this was merely the bottom rung of human food. And yet she wanted MORE.
"Well..." Elevala said slowly, licking what was left off of her fingers in an act that likely would have had her thrown out of any elven restaurant. Human fast food was basically already totally artificial, right? So she'd get roughly the same experience by using magic to create a second one. Conjuring food was something she had proven to be quite talented at, but the downside of magically created food was that it was never as fresh as the original, always a pale imitation, and often left the eater almost as hungry as when they started. But when she gave into temptation and made the second one, she could tell that the salt and fat that her body was now craving was just as strong. Perhaps because it was so simple and strong in the first place, when she bit into the juicy magical burger, it tasted practically the same.
"Perhaps... I should apologise... to Jessica." Elevala mumbled between bites, stuffing her face with a third burger on impulse. It was so easy, after all. It really was fast food! She laughed at her own joke, her haughty elven laugh somewhat spoiled by her cheeks being packed with bun and patty. In the space of a few minutes, Elevala was quite possibly an addict. Her body simply wasn't ready for the experience, and there was nobody here to calm her down.
Eventually, with her usually perfectly trim belly bulging slightly from overstuffing herself, Elevala calmed down. She went to the bathroom to was her hands free of the grease, but already the idea of tomorrow's breakfast vegetables was starting to become unappealing. It was such a boring taste compared to this human burger!
After all, Elevala reminded herself, she couldn't make a habit of eating this human food. After all, her proud body didn't have a hint of excess fat on it, and she knew how humans who couldn't help themselves ended up! Thankfully, she was a pureblooded elf, the very picture of grace and self-control. She'd just have one little taste of the breakfast menu, and maybe the lunch menu later on. Then, she'd have it out of her system. And if she ever felt a little tempted later on, she could make a magical copy to satiate herself, once a month or two. Yes, Elevala told herself with confidence, she definitely hadn't started a bad habit.
--
"Elevala? You alive!" Jessica called, knocking on her friend's door. It had been a month since she last saw her elven friend in person, and even once she had returned from her vacation, she hadn't seen her leave her house once. She was starting to get concerned as Elevala was dancing around her questions via text, and eventually she had come over. "You're starting to worry me, you've been acting all weird over the phone! I'm coming in, okay?
"You can't come in!" Elevala called, her voice panicked in the distance as Jessica used the spare key she had lent her to open the door with a click.
"...Why not?" Jessica asked, pausing.
"I, um, you just can't!" Elevala called back, still sounding strange. "There's been, um, a magical accident! It's quite dangerous for humans, so you should stay back!"
"That's even more reason to come in!" Jessica said with alarm, wondering if she had botched some experiment and created a serious problem. She pulled the door open and marched in as Elevala spluttered out incoherent excuses. Jessica nearly accelerated to a sprint as she ran to the living room, stopping dead in her tracks at what she saw.
Elevala was sprawled out over her couch in her pajamas, a pile of fast food packaging and wrappers on the coffee table before her and even some on the floor, unlike her usually perfectly tidy image. The TV was on, Elevala having been in the middle of some crappy melodramatic TV show when she was caught. Not living up to her immaculate image as an elf was one thing, but what was far more shocking was the state of Elevala herself. Her usually razor sharp chin had softened, her dignified features ballooned outwards into a soft and cherubic chubby face with a healthy second chin, her slender limbs thick and bloated. Her flat chest was now two large sagging breasts half the size of her head, and she had a large, pooching, bulging gut that reminded Jessica of a bean bag chair she had at home. Her slim thighs were wide enough to rub together, and she was practically drooping over the side of her couch. In one hand was a TV remote and in the other was a large soda, making it even clearer what was responsible for this remarkable transformation. Somehow, in the month since she had last saw her, Elevala had turned into a three hundred pound fatty!
"Don't look at me!" Elevala cried, awkwardly trying to cover herself with her cup to no avail. Her dark brown skin wobbled as her belly hung out of her woefully undersized pajamas, her pants looking strained just to meet the width of her hips and huge, flabby ass, with a healthy muffin top hanging out over them. She pulled herself upright, abandoning her cup as she flushed bright red, her usually beautifully combed straight white hair now curly and with a serious case of bedhead. She was kind of cute like this, Jessica realised as an aside thought as she tried to process what had happened to the snobby elf. She was almost cuddly, with all of the pointy parts and sharp edges removed. Elevala momentarily attempted to look intimidating, which totally failed thanks to her rounded double-chinned face and the fact that it was difficult to look tough in a shirt that couldn't cover even half of your gut.
"Elevala, what the hell happened to you?" Jessica finally said, unsure of whether or not to laugh at the sad state of this elf surrounded by wrappers and empty cups of fries.
"This is all your accursed human food's fault!" Elevala wailed, crying into her chubby hands, her fat face squashing against them. "It's too damned delicious! It's not fair!"
"I heard elves put on weight easily, but... wow!" Jessica exclaimed. There really was no good way to react to something like this, particularly when she was so obviously embarrassed by it. "But how did this happen?"
"It wasn't meant to be like this!" Elevala sobbed. "Your fast food has some sort of curse in it that forced me to keep eating it! I was only meant to have one, maybe three of your human burgers then stop! But the curse compelled me to go there myself and try the dollar menu! Then, it was so easy to just make more of my own whenever I wanted, and it was so good, and... stop laughing!"
Jessica had been giggling for most of the explanation, but was breaking out into uncontrollable laughter by the end, tears streaming down the faces of both of them.
"Awful! You humans are awful! What a cruel race!" Elevala wailed, as melodramatic as ever as she waddled over to Jessica to give her big puppy dog eyes like she had been caught stealing a cookie. "Look what you've done to me! My beautiful body, ruined! And it's all your fault!"
"No way, this is totally your fault!" Jessica giggled as Elevala pouted, realising that she wasn't going to get any sympathy from her. "You look like you've been eating non-stop since I left!"
"Well, you know we elves have a certain metabolism..." Elevala mumbled. "And it was so comfy, too. Even as this started to happen, I just couldn't help myself!"
"Okay, I get it, I get it." Jessica finally started to calm down as Elevala settled back down onto the sofa, starting to much on some leftover fries for comfort eating. She rested the packet on her belly, easily balancing it as it stuck out as if she was pregnant.
"So obviously, I can't let anybody see me like this." Elevala concluded. "My ancestors would never forgive me. And you!"
She pointed a chubby finger directly at Jessica. "This is your fault, so you solve it!"
Jessica blinked a few times. "Solve it? How?"
"Release me from your human curse!" Elevala said, with an air of desperation to her voice. "You humans manage to eat this and stop, so you must have some special technique, or something!"
"It's called basic self control, Miss Nightmoon." Jessica explained as if she was speaking to a small child. "Which clearly, you don't seem to have."
"I have self-control! Far more than you do!" Elevala made one final attempt at asserting her elven pride, if only out of habit.
"Really?" Jessica smirked. "Then stop eating those fries."
Elevala froze with one already half-raised to her mouth. Slowly it began to droop, then began to rise again anyway as she guiltily fed it into her greedy gullet.
"These don't count." She declared as she continued to munch on them with great shame. "And it's against the noble virtues of elves to waste food."
"Then I don't think your curse is going away any time soon, Miss Highmoon." Jessica sighed, crossing her legs. Elevala attempted to imitate her, but with how thick her thighs were, it became a long, clumsy action merely to get one over the other as her fat squashed and prodded her belly, causing her to yelp and rush to catch her remaining fries before they fell.
"Please, you've got to be able to do something about this!" Elevala pleaded.
"I don't know what I can do if you can't seem to contain yourself." Jessica admitted. "I can make you start jogging or something, but as long as you keep eating like this you're only gonna get fatter."
"Fine then, I'll stop! Right now!" Elevala announced, throwing her empty cup of fries down into the mess before her. "I, Elevala Nightmoon, hereby quit human food, no matter how devilishly delicious it is! Furthermore, I-"
The doorbell rang, cutting her off.
She trailed off, and then looked guiltily at Jessica.
"Could you get that?"
A minute later Jessica returned from the door with enough fast food from the delivery boy to feed five elves, the smell of fresh grease filling the room. She watched Elevala's eyes sparkle as she dug into the bag and pulled out a triple cheeseburger, all dignity forgotten as she was entranced by the junk food before her.
"I'm quitting right after this." Elevala insisted, taking a huge bite out of it and cooing. "Oh, the deluxe half-pounder really is splendid! Jessica, you simply must try one of these! The taste has such character!"
"No, I'm good, you enjoy yourself." Jessica said carefully as Elevara handed her one of the three or four she seemed to have bought, a gesture that seemed to have no ill-intent.
"No, I insist!" Elevara said, without any hint that suggested that she was trying to spread her curse. "I've lived for eighty years and not tasted something as good as this!"
"Well, if you insist." Jessica said, taking it and taking a big bite. She nodded, Elevara looking smug that she had gained Jessica's approval. "You're right, this is pretty good."
"Isn't it?" Elevala smiled, free of any of the shame and indignation of just a minute ago. "Most of your human food tastes the same if I conjure my own, but this, this I simply must have fresh!"
"Well, I guess this is how you got so fat." Jessica commented, but Elevala paid no mind.
"A small price to pay." The elf shrugged. "I'll worry about that later."
True to her word, Elevala seemed to be in high spirits through the rest of her meal, chatting with Jessica about her trip with her own body-image problems seemingly forgotten. It seemed that as long as she was eating, everything else was a secondary concern, and Jessica had to admit that she liked this Elevala more than the normal one. As if it really were a spell, it was only once she was stuffed and out of food did Elevala seem to return to her normal self.
"See, I told you it was a curse!" Elevala said with dismay as what she had done suddenly seemed to hit her all at once. "Whenever I eat your human food, I feel all... fuzzy! And fluffy! It's definitely some kind of curse!"
"I think that's called being happy, El." Jessica commented. Fluffy was definitely the right word for it. It made her want to feed her more and see what happened.
"Whatever it is, it's making me fat!" She moaned once again, returning to where she started. "And the worst part is, I'm still hungry! You've got to help me!"
"Well..." Jessica thought, considering her options. She could try to put Elevala on a diet, where she would definitely whine and cry the whole way, and probably stuff her face whenever she turned the other way. Or, she could let this state continue, where at least she was cute about it.
"Alright, I'll help you." Jessica decided, although she had serious doubts that Elevala would listen to anything she said. But maybe that wouldn't be so bad, either. "But until you're skinny again, you're conjuring me free dinner whenever I want..."
