“Come on, isn't there anything left in here?” Jane said to herself as she searched through her fridge, getting down on one knee to get a closer look. She knew she should have gotten a taller fridge for her apartment, considering that she was taller than usual, at 6 foot 3, then she wouldn’t have to keep so much stuff at the bottom. Then again, she was in the middle of the city, and hauling it up to her apartment wouldn’t be fun. She could ask someone to help her, but she didn’t exactly have any friends, and she didn’t think she could work up the nerve to ask someone she didn’t know to help her. She wasn’t exactly a loud person, always the quiet one in the room, and it became a problem in theoretical situations like that.
Being tall didn’t do much for her, when she was pretty much flat with no hips or curves to speak of showing through her t-shirt and jeans. All she wanted was one drink, but she seemed to have expended all of her supplies. She brushed a lock of her shoulder-length light-brown hair out of her face, figuring that she should probably watch her weight at this point, but screw it, she was thirsty, and it was this or water, and she knew which one she wanted.
Her previous observation, however, turned out to be untrue, as there was still one can of something at the back, behind the leftovers from last night. She pulled it out from the back, and looked at the label, confused by it.
“Kaja'Cola? The hell is that?” She said to herself, wondering just when she had bought this. She definitely didn’t remember getting it, and it sounded like some weird Swedish drink or something. Still, it was all she had, and she opened it, taking a quick drink, feeling a quick rush in her head and a dizzy feeling as the world seemed suddenly huge. As it turned out, this was true, as the drink began to have an odd effect on her.
She began to shrink, her jeans and t-shirt falling over her as her torso and legs shortened, her arms and legs matching her shrunken proportions. Rather than ending up looking like a child’s, like actual human dwarves, they remained long enough to make her look and move normally, only on a much smaller scale. The small layer of fat on her body disappeared entirely, her body going from fit to toned, some muscle clearly visible on her, while her hips expanded outwards, giving her a particularly curvy lower half.
Slightly dazed and dizzy, Jane pulled off the far-too big clothes, her bra slipping down from her chest, only her underwear staying on her, and only thanks to her larger hips keeping them tight. She made sure not to spill her drink as she reflected to herself that yes, wearing clothes about ten sizes too big for her was a stupid idea. Why had she even tried to wear them? She didn’t put any further thought into it though, as she drained the rest of the cola, the same dizzy rush going through her head as her body began to change again.
Her skin began to darken, turning green as it flushed a bright shade of it, her lips turning a slightly darker shade of it as they began to swell up, becoming much larger as well as widening slightly, while the her teeth took on a slightly pointier look. Her nose broadened and then grew longer, hooking slightly at the end as it stuck out, more than twice as long as it had been before. Her ears began to grow wider and larger, the tips shifting into a point as they grew out, longer and longer until they reached the same height as her head, twitching slightly from the sudden growth. Her fingernails grew out until they were at least an inch long, green and pointed, more like claws or talons at that point.
At this point, Jane looked only vaguely recognisable, with a long, hooked nose and a much wider mouth, with a tiny and toned green body that was much curvier than before, Jane came down from her rush, feeling like something was different. Something important, something about herself… She needed to find a mirror, and…
Hang on, she had an idea! It was a radio, but instead of transmitting sound, it transmitted electric shocks! Why hadn’t anyone thought of that before? She’d have to go get that patented before somebody stole her idea! She threw the can into her bin, thinking that she had to cut back on how much soda she drank. That stuff was completely overpriced.
“What d’they think I am, made outta money or somethin’?” She said as she walked back to her bed, grabbing a screwdriver from a drawer and her old bedside-table radio, oblivious to the fact that what was once knee-height was something that she now had to climb up onto, lying back and starting to take it apart.
Her radio ran on a battery, but she wondered if she could get this thing to run on coal directly? Cut out the middle man in the electrical provision process. Until then though, she’d need direct access to a power-supply, get some jumper cables, maybe a car-battery, do something creative with this boring thing. Maybe change the volume to a control for the voltage, from medium-rare to completely fried. After all, if she didn’t invent it, who would?
