"The Rito upgrade." Samus selected, her head feeling strange after all that knowledge had been removed from her brain. She didn't miss it though, seeing as she had managed to fill an entire wall with various facts and information before she had ran out of ink, and had scrambled around for a while before trying to use the computer to write things down. Messing with the keyboard had triggered the cancelation of her upgrade, and now she was back to selecting upgrades based on the fact that she didn't know what the word meant. If it was a species, then she didn't know what one, and decided that she might as well find out. She took the chip from the machine and plugged it into her zero suit, moving a bit closer to the mirror as she waited for it to begin.
Samus' suit glowed as the material on her arms disappeared, leaving her shoulder to hands bare, her shoes melting away as the material receded up to just below her knees, leaving her feet bare. Before she could react to the feeling of the cold floor on her feet, she was thrown off balance by a painful crack in her shins, pushing it backwards as her bones grinded, lengthening and changing as they became digitigrade, Samus holding herself awkwardly on feet that couldn't support her properly, and thin legs from the knee down that made it painful to stand on. She stumbled over to a wall, just in time to grimace for another change to her legs.
Her thin former shins changed from skin to a harder material, turning yellow as they gained bumps and ridges, while her feet grew shorter, her big toes moving to stick out slightly like a small thumb, while her four toes merged into three on each foot, each growing as long as her foot was, resembling birds feet. Black talons grew out from her toenails, touching the floor as Samus pushed herself off the wall, realising she could support herself naturally now, walking experimentally, her pacing odd but efficient. She was roughly the same height when she stood normally, but when she straightened her feet when she walked, she was a little taller.
She began to walk over to the mirror, noticing that the skin of her bare arms had changed to a light greyish brown, and as she saw herself in the mirror, saw that the rest of her skin matched. She also saw that her hair colour had changed from its usual blonde to a deep red, suiting the grey pallor of her skin much better. She also noticed that her nose had extended, hooking at the end, and felt it tingle as it began to change further. Her noses skin hardened into a tough orange shell, becoming pointier and more triangular, looking just like a bird's beak, the shell ending just at her eyebrows.
All in all, Samus thought, she looked very much like a strange bird woman. And, she wondered, if she was some bird person, where were her wings? Could she fly somehow? At these thoughts, Samus yelped and swung her arms up as a huge layer of feathers emerged from each one, the same grey-brown of her skin, and certainly big enough to serve as wings. Her hands were still under there, but they were buried and not particularly useful with the feathers out. Hoping it worked the same way as her previous upgrades, Samus willed her arms to lose the feathers, which thankfully complied, the feathers receding back into her arms.
Excited at the idea of un-machine assisted flight, Samus brought her wings out again, flapping them as she instinctively knew how to use them, gaining lift as she rose, before bumping into the room and falling back down onto her face. Samus rubbed her hard nose before saying,
"I need to find a more open area
