SCENE 2: PERFORMANCE ISSUES
Technically, Barbra's Brewery was just the name of the village pub, where Barbra brewed, bottled, and served their family's ancestral fermented fruit drinks, and hosted nightly entertainment and events. But, since the village had neither an official name nor other noteworthy landmarks, most travelers knew the village as Barbra's Brewery and most maps labeled it so.
After a day and a half of walking, Nabo found herself in Barbra's Brewery, Barbra's Brewery, haggling with Barbra of the Brewery.
"Contrary to urban legend, Legendary Warriors don't drink free." Barbra said, the waifish bat turning her back on the mighty tiger as they mixed a nice drink for a paying customers
"Firstly, it's 'Legendary Prodigy', Kahn-Shen is the Legendary Warrior, and notoriously litigious." Nabo corrected, eyes bulging as a delicious date cocktail was set before a meek little mink in a sweater vest. She swallowed a mouthful of jealous spit and continued "Secondly, while I carry no coin, I can provide many other services, well worth a few drinks."
Barbra chuckled, opening a tab for the mink with a wink. "If you're attempting to proposition me, prodigy, you're barking up the wrong tree. The only legs I fancy getting between are wine legs."
"So I've heard." Nabo said, glancing at the bar's empty stage. "What's tonight's entertainment?"
"Wednesday's open mic night." She answered, jerking her head at the sign up sheet on the wall and taking orders for some opposite-sex twin bunnies. "Why, you want me to cancel our most cherished community building activity and offer you free drinks in exchange for a magic martial arts show?"
Nabo's smiled deepened. She turned to the mink. "Tell us a joke."
"Huh?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
"You've arrived an hour early." Nabo said, reading the sign up sheet. "Only one name has been written down, and judging from how nervous you look, I assume you are... AK?"
"Oh, uh, I mean, my act is more of a funny story than, like, a 'joke' kinda joke." The mink muttered, pulling a half dozen note cards from his pocket.
"Ah. What about you two?" Nabo asked, leaning forward to address the twins.
"Nope!" The sister said, taking a big sip of some frozen strawberry slushie thing that Nabo could smell from two seats away. "Me and Ryan are just here to support AK!"
"And get some free drinks!" The boy bunny, presumably Ryan, piped in, playfully jabbing AK's bicep.
AK didn't laugh, only mumbling "Uh..." as sweat rolled down his face. His story seemed a lot funnier in the privacy of his living room. "Uh..." he gulped down the rest of his liquid courage, gave the notes another read, then stuffed them back in his pocket. "t-tell you the truth, I'm not feeling so good any more. M-maybe I'll just watch."
"Aw, come on! Don't be like that!" Rose pleaded, arms wrapping around his and comically huge breasts all but enveloping his left side.
"Yeah! You got this! Step one to getting over stage fright is getting on stage!" Ryan encouraged, squeezing under the overhang of the bar as he slid into his sister's lap and got in on a group hug.
"Uh..." AK blushed. "T-tell you what, uh, Nabo, was it?"
"Legendary Prodigy of Master Wan's Martial Arts Academy. The youngest adept of the Merciful Assassin style. Savior of the Southern Gate, and defeater of more or less 10,000 foes, yes." Nabo teased, eyeing the mink with a confident leer.
"Sure. OK. Uh, do you need like, an assistant for your... act? I mean, my sister got into a fight with some Merciful Assassin guy before, he said something about her girlfriend that... uh, anyway, she actually likes her new look, but like, does it hurt?" He asked, second guessing his second guessing.
Nabo gripped his thigh, rolling his cargo shorts up to his tighty whities, the mink letting out an "eep!" and the bunnies an "unf!" and all of them an "OH!" as Nabo closed her thumb and pointer finger like an aperture, gliding effortlessly through AK's leg and letting it tumble to the floor when the hole closed.
"So, did that hurt?" Nabo asked, kicking off her shoes, picking his leg up with her feet, and reattaching it hands free. The mink and the bunnies were starry eyed and excited in several ways, and when the tiger turned to the bat she was clearly suppressing a grin. "So, Barbra, what say you? I'll open with AK, and if the audience doesn't want an encore, I'll step aside sober. But, if they want, nay, demand, more," she raised her room temperature plastic cup of water "I'll need something a little stronger to maintain my stage presence."
-
Light. Loud. Laughs. Nabo was doing great, she assumed. Hard to tell when the crowd kept fading in and out of reality. For however long it was, she'd delighted and amazed the no name town, filling Barbra's Brewery to capacity and then some.
She'd started with a simple trick and silly joke, letting AK introduce her and noting how nervous he seemed. She offered to ease his mind, and hardly waited for him to agree before clawing off his scalp and scooping out his brain, plopping it in a stein of beer Ryan had ordered. Not satisfied quite yet, Nabo hacked off the mink's empty head and twirled his dazed body around like a ragdoll as she danced to some inoffensive pop music. Admittedly, she wasn't much of a dancer, manhandling AK's flailing form stiffly and aggressively, but when she bowed low over the side of the stage, stretching her arm out and shaking AK's dizzy and drunken skull at Barba, the bat readily poured peach punch into AK's empty head. Nabo took a hearty gulp, tossing his body to Rose and Ryan who barely caught it and lowered it into their booth, where they fondled and felt it up throughout the show, much to AK's tipsy amusement. Unlike the rats, Nabo made sure he could feel EVERYTHING.
One drink led to another, and the night melted into a shapeless mass of disconnected scenes stirred up in a lumpy haze. AK's sister, a mink whose head and body were still separated and escorted on either side of her shark girlfriend, volunteered herself and her girlfriend to support her brother. Nabo shark and mink like she was making modern art, accepting audience suggestion as though they were the muses. Before moving on, she mostly got the girls back in order, though comically she'd set their heads on the wrong bodies before waving them off like she didn't notice.
Fuzzier tricks, stronger drinks... she remembered a leopard with ludicrously large paws getting reduced to a quad so she could take some weight off her shoulders and weary feet. The limbs were donated to some... sorta... well, it LOOKED like a grey and purple space alien, with a tail and bulbous little three fingered hands and feet, but of course aliens don't exist. Whoever and whatever it was, they seemed happy to have new and marginally more earth-appropriate limbs.
Then... rabbit? Another rabbit? A lot of rabbits, actually, all through the show. Lots of rabbits in this part of the country. Must fuck like... OH! That's where that came from! Anyways, kinda lost track of most of them, but Nabo definitely remembered this one sorta techie bunny asking to have his phone plugged directly to his brain? Nabo didn't get why anyone would want that, but was positively plastered and running out of ideas, so she hacked up his phone and stuffed its innards into his brain, allowing his qi to flow like electricity through the circuitry. He seemed happy, ringing up friends with his mind before he even sat back down. AK was coming in clutch, good at one liners now that he'd lightened up. Seemed to enjoy being the supporting cast more than the lead.
Where was I... she...? Uh... a gaggle of weird colored horsies from a far away land, all had different requests. Brain stuffs for purple horse, blue horse got their head, feet, cock, and the remaining 80% of her body parcelled out to each of their friends, which got a good "OOOH!" out of crowd. None of the acts strayed out of PG-13 until that, and while nothing "happened" on stage, many acts after blue broke the ice were on the raunchier side. Like the... pink and the uh, orangish brown... uh... can't remember. Can't remember much. Dark all of the sudden. Probably should bed soon.
"Alright, I think it's about time for the grand finale. Imma need... I dunno, how many of you haven't gone already?" Even through the fermented fruit goggles, Nabo could see much of the shapeless mass of bodies was in various states of disassembly and misassembly. She'd probably have to come back and fix that tomorrow. Hopefully Barbra would let her crash on her couch, even if she wouldn't share a bed.
"Ooh, ooh!" Came a Sharp cry just off to the left, followed by an "Us, us!"
It was Ryan and Rose, who'd somehow survived the night unscathed unlike AK's body and brain, the former looking like it'd been roughed up in a rainy alley by the handsy rabbits and the latter's mug drunk dry leaving the lonely brain in the middle of the table covered in stale foam.
"Cool. Over here." Nabo ordered, nearly tumbling off stage as she pointed to the floor. The bunnies abandoned AK's body and brain like nothing, hopping to the foot of the stage and losing their heads as soon as they came in arm's reach. "Two heads... gonna need... more. Anyone? Grand finale, anyone?"
"HEY!" shouted an orca woman, shoved toward the stage by a smug, shark headed mink.
"Great." Nabo flatly said, taking the Orca's head off and shoving her body back into the crowd before she had time to protest. "So, last trick-"
"WAIT!" cried something in the back. There was movement amid the crowd, triangular ears and dark shapes poking out here and there, closer each time, until two figures burst through the lines. One was like a wolf, but like, way too dark? Like, a wolf the color of space. A color shared by her friend... some kinda dog maybe? Bat? Rat? Whatever he was or she was, their friends way in the back stood on their seats and screamed inaudible encouragement, their pitch black forms blending into the shadows of the bar. Nabo swore she saw bat wings and big tits on one, while the other had ears like diamonds, or...
She remembered the show, and looked down at wolf thingie and thingie thingie, begging on their knees to get lopped, spilling their life stories and motivations as if Nabo had any reason to care.
"Great, you're hired." Nabo said, twisting their heads backwards to face the audience and lifting them high, thing's eyes sparkling with joy while the wolf whistled to her table and panted with excitement, the whole crowd cheering even as their newly sentient bodies got on all fours and started shuffling in search of their lost heads.
Lining up the heads of the giggling bunnies, indignant orca, eager wolf thing, and ecstatic mystery animal, Nabo reached over to the stool she'd set AK on to get one last sip, only to discover his skull was bone dry. "Looking for inspiration? Sorry, but I'm fresh out!" he joked, the crowd laughing along good naturedly and further building his confidence.
"Fuck!" Nabo spat, violently throwing the empty mink mug much to the audience's horror.
She stomped over to the stunned heads and kicked them away like a toddler throwing a tantrum. There was a split second where a riot threatened to erupt, but when the stage lights brightly glinted off Nabo's single exposed fang, her grin as sharp and in focus as ever, there was a collective realization that this was all part of the show. Nabo had sent all six heads sailing into the air, grazing the high rafters, and as they fell Nabo deftly nabbed and swatted them back up, expertly juggling in spite of her drunkenness. The audience exploded in applause, the heads laughing and making faces as they experienced a one woman roller coaster ride.
Ever the show off, Nabo went from two handed juggling to one, plucking AK out of the mix with her dominant hand and leaning far, far over the stage to waggle the mugging mug at the smirking bartender as she continued to keep all complete heads aloft. Shouting "Last one! Have to turn a profit after all!", Barbra filled AK with a blood red concoction of pomegranate, black cherry, and red wine, Nabo bit the edge of AK's skull and returned to two handed juggling, tilting her head back and allowing the booze to pour down her throat inside and out, too drunk to care about the mess she made of herself and the floor.
Silence. Shit, did they really care that much about mopping? Nabo caught each head and set it down on the edge of the stage, finishing up by spitting AK out and perching him back on his stool. Nobody was looking at her, but at the bar's double doors, where stood two fresh faces.
"Sorry to steal the show, didn't know it'd run so late." Said a shortstack pig dressed like a cowgirl; jean shorts, big hat, spurred boots, flannel top, and a leather holster with a pistol. "We'd heard a tiger was in town and we were looking to catch her by the toe!"
"Buh?" Nabo grunted, straightening up and wiping off her chin.
Beside the pig was a big black cock attached to a big black cock. He wore nothing but combat boots with talon-like blades on the toes, a utility belt, and a low hanging necklace that swung in time with his pendulous package as he strode towards the stage. "You've been invited to a meeting with the boss. Wants to sort out a misunderstanding involving a few of his subcontractors near Shi'Ken."
"Rats..." Nabo hissed, really wishing she'd caught that last bandit.
"Actually, name's Cock." Said the cocky cock, jabbing a thumb into his broad chest before jerking it at the piggy. "And this here's Ginger. We're the boss' assistants, and we don't take no for an answer."
The piggy, Ginger, drew a pistol with stunning speed, training it on Nabo's wine stained chest. "So, will you come with us?" She asked, sickeningly cheerful.
"Can you believe these guys?" Nabo chuckled, turning to a terrified AK and pointing lazily at the villains. Turning her attention back to the matter at hand, Nabo said "Alright, I'll meet boss man. I'll straighten this whole mess out."
"STARTING WITH YOU!" Nabo dropped low, the end of her ponytail torn away by Ginger's bullet, and pounced on the thugs with teeth barred and claws glowing.
Or, that's what happened in her head. What Cock and Ginger saw was a drunken tiger tripping on her own legs and face planting off the stage, snoring like a chainsaw as her body limply twitched. Ginger gave her a hard kick, ensuring she was really down for the count, then holstered her pistol. "Right, you hog tie her. I'll carry her back to base."
Unfastening a length of rope from his belt, Cock asked "You really can't tie a few knots, farm girl?"
"Wasn't that kind of farm." Ginger said, watching as the muscular cock bodily handled the limp tigress, trussing her like a roast.
"You just enjoy the show, huh perv?" Cock asked, giving her a knowing look as he sharply tightened the ropes around Nabo's wrists.
Ginger bit her lip, fanning herself with her hat. "What can I say? This piggy's a natural rope bunny!"
Cock's cock stirred at the sight of the tightly bound tiger and excited pig, dragging itself off the sticky floor into a half mast that would dwarf most cocks at their A-game. "Heh, suppose I shouldn't be complaining. You'll be doing the heavy lifting."
