"You know Amelia, you really are the worst kind of NARC." Said the prisoner, marching in perfect lockstep behind her captor. "After weeks of angsting I finally tell you my secret, you promised that you'd be cool, and what do you do? Immediately be as uncool about this as can be. I thought we were besties, team T&A, but I guess you're just a huge A!"
"Tasha was my friend. She is dead." Amelia said, not turning back to face her captive.
"Oh, quit being dramatic! I'm the same Tasha you shared a room with for four years straight, I'm just... improved! Bold new look, same great taste!" Tasha said, smiling impishly. "You'd know that if you weren't such a devious tease. That was pure evil, by the way. Acting like you were finally coming around to the idea of you and me after all these years, just so you could get the jump on me. You sure I'm the monster here?"
"I am devoted first and foremost to our cause. All I do is in service to our most holy mission, to spare mankind the horrors beyond the veil." Amelia replied, reciting the oath she took no less than ten times a day.
"Is that why you didn't bother to put the rest of your robes on?" Tasha teased, openly oggling the firm ass, thick thighs, powerful calves, and cute feet, which had all been bared as part of Amelia's ruse to distract her former friend long enough to spring her trap. Amelia was now taking the long walk down the rows of pews, up to the altar, wearing only the top half of her pitch black and blood red robes, a pair of dull turquoise earrings, and a black leather choker studded with spikes.
"I wanted to deliver you to the trial as fast as possible." Amelia answered unconvincingly, knowing her former friend knew her well enough to know she just felt bad and wanted to make what were potentially her final moments as pleasant as possible.
"I guess it does improve your aerodynamics." Tasha retorted, rolling her eyes.
"Silence!" A booming male voice declared, and it was so. The sound of Tasha and Amelia's bare feet pattering across the stone floor ceased, the ever present eerie Gregorian Chant stopped mid note, even the pouring rain of this fittingly dark and stormy night seemed to obey. This deafening silence lasted for about five seconds.
"Hate to break it to you, daddy Doe, but I ain't under your spell any more. I'm under hers." Tasha said, pointing at Amelia with her chin as her hands refused to raise from her sides. "Or, I guess technically I'm under my own spell? Honestly, I'm a little confused on the mechanics of this. Like I get it, she used blessed silver to reflect my hypnotic gaze, but I don't even have a reflection, so-"
"You will be silent unless invited to speak." Amelia interrupted, bowing low before her master.
Tasha's lips locked together in a tight frown as she silently stared daggers at the twin buns tied behind Amelia's head, and no other buns.
The man behind the altar, a tall figure robed in shadows and a black and copper colored cloak, gave Amelia an almost imperceptible nod of thanks, and continued "Acolyte Tasha Le Chiffre, sister sworn to The Dark Court, you stand accused of breaking your sacred oath to mankind and convening with unholy forces hostile to God's children. Not only have you convened with these forces, if these accusations are true, but you have taken pact with them and deliberately infected yourself with the most terrible disease, vampirism. What say you in your defense?"
"I thought knowing our enemy might be useful in vanquishing them once and for all." Tasha replied, flashing her fangs with a toothy grin as the flickering torchlight caught the golden glint of her corrupted eyes and cast harsh shadows over the deathly pale angles of her face. "Plus there's quite a few perks to being a vampire, even if it has some unforeseen drawbacks."
"I believe these remarks constitute a plea of guilty, High Inquisitor Doe." Amelia said, knowing that her friend would drag out this process as long as possible if allowed.
"I concur." He concurred. "Acolyte Le Chiffre, before the eyes of merciful God, do you repent your wicked deeds? In atonement, your affliction can be treated and reversed, and you may return to our service, the service of God, reborn. In rejection, your soul is forever lost, you will be put to death, and your lost soul will be justly damned in eternal suffering. What say you?"
"Not that the last six years of functional slavery haven't been fun, but truth be told if I wasn't so scared of it hurting my chances of banging Amelia over here, I'd've probably dropped out or switched teams years ago. The Dark Court are a bunch of fascist fossils living in a fantasy world of moral absolutism, and on top of that the food sucks." Tasha said, holding her head up high.
"She does not repent." Amelia said, blushing with embarrassment even as sadness flushed her face of color. She reminded herself that this wasn't her friend any more. This wasn't Tasha. Her sickness had corrupted her mind, excised her good nature, and left nothing but her most animal desires. She was nothing but a beast, and had to be culled as one.
"I concur." High Inquisitor Doe again concurred. "Tasha Le Chiffre, with the powers entrusted to me, as High Inquisitor of The Dark Court, I hereby revoke your sistership, as you revoked your oaths. For your heinous transgressions, I sentence you to summary execution." He paused, his dark eyes settling on Amelia. While the girl had certainly shown a great deal of loyalty to The Dark Court, among the other things she was presently showing, in the wake of her close friend's betrayal he had to be certain that Amelia's conviction remained strong. With a heavy heart, he said "Amelia, you are hereby ordered to carry out this execution. Immediately."
Tasha's eyes widened, her jaw twitching but her lips remaining hypnotically sealed. Even by the standards of The Dark Court, that was brutal. She watched Amelia rise from the ground in a slow, deliberate motion, clearly stalling for as long as she could while her heart fought with her soul for control of her unbound tongue.
Tasha blinked, catching a shockingly distant bird's eye view of the altar, High Inquisitor Doe, the choir of silenced chanters, Amelia, and her own headless body spewing a high pressure fountain of inhumanly bright red blood from its freshly exposed neck stump. Tasha hadn't even seen Amelia draw her blade, hadn't even felt the steel kiss her neck, hadn't even noticed the numbness that consumed her entire body when her head was jettisoned from it. Despite being her roommate and partner in the hunt for four years, it was another experience entirely to be on the receiving end of Amelia's wrath. Between all the childish jokes they'd shared, the excited bedtime gossip about cute brothers and sisters and siblings beyond the binary, and the carefree games played during rare moments of downtime, Tasha often forgot that Amelia was one of the most prodigiously deadly monster hunters The Dark Court had ever produced.
Tasha blinked again, and time resumed. The world spiraled into an incomprehensible mess of muted colors, though without a stomach to churn at the dizziness the head found the experience surprisingly pleasant. Her landing was when the unpleasantness started, as Amelia produced the same silver plate she'd used to reverse Tasha's hypnosis and caught her head in the dead center of the dish. With a crackling sizzle and a hiss of reddish gray steam, Tasha's open neck stump landed on the blessed silver and burned like a hot stove, cauterizing her stump as her face contorted in a silent scream of pure agony. The infernal steam and silent screams persisted for an uncomfortably long amount of time, until the silence alone remained. High Inquisitor Doe Nodded solemnly at Amelia, who had taken a knee and presented him the head of her former friend deferentially.
"This trial is concluded." He announced. He was about to dismiss the choir and inform Amelia that she'd proven her loyalty beyond doubt, and she could head down to The Dark Court's extremely well funded psychiatric ward for grief counseling while he disposed of Tasha's remains, but instead he did a double take and pointed at Tasha's decapitated body to ask "Why's she still alive?"
Amelia leapt to her feet and spun on her heels, ready to strike at the undead monster, but her blade was stayed when she saw Tasha's body. While the body had indeed survived in spite of severe blood loss and the yet more severe head loss, it didn't seem to be lashing out, lunging for Amelia's throat, or attempting to recover its lost head and flee to plot its revenge. The body was, instead, pawing lazily at the emptiness over its neck with one hand, scratching at her side with the other as it tried to figure out what was going on. Turning to Tasha's head, Amelia noticed a sickeningly smug and toothy smile painted across her face, and eyebrows mockingly rising and falling as she locked gaze. Whether or not the trial had concluded, the execution evidently hadn't.
"I don't understand, decapitation is one of the surest ways to kill a vampire. How are you still alive?" Amelia asked the severed head, as if it could possibly respond to her with anything more than wry looks and mouthed insults.
To the surprise of everyone in the room, including Tasha herself, she could possibly respond. "Unlike The Dark Court, the unholy forces are constantly evolving. Like any other disease, vampirism mutates and develops new strains over time, strains resistant to the usual cures." Said the head, proudly watching as her headless body, which at some point during her decapitation must've jolted pretty violently as one of her milky tits had managed to pop out of her robe, began stumbling forward with questing arms outstretched and sweeping in front of her. Amelia stepped aside, allowing the body to pass and slowly lurch towards the head of the room.
"Halt!" Amelia commanded, though to her horror the body continued to stumble towards High Inquisitor Doe, who had taken up a defensive position behind the altar. "Why are you not obeying my commands?" She asked Tasha, fearful the decapitation had somehow broken the hypnotic spell.
"I am halted!" Tasha answered, cheekily.
Amelia huffed. "Why is your-" she stopped, watching the body smash straight into the altar and fall back onto its ass. Clearly it couldn't see, which meant it probably couldn't hear, either. "Answer all of my questions truthfully, now and forever. Is your body still under my sway?"
"I think so?" Tasha non-answered. "I can't really feel it any more, but I have like this lingering magic connection with it. I get this... weird sense that... yeah, yeah. I think it's still trying to obey your commands, but I don't know what it's trying to obey. Hypnotism is subconscious like that."
"It's trying to follow me." Amelia deduced, watching the body shuffle along the floor on its knees, its open neck continuing to dribble blood all over the stone floor that some unlucky brother or sister or sibling beyond the binary would have to spend hours mopping up. "I ordered you to follow three paces behind me. Your body doesn't know where I am any more, so it doesn't know where to go."
"Did you also order her not to kill anyone she stumbled across?" High Inquisitor Doe asked, poking his head out from around the side of the altar and revealing a face that, without the carefully positioned torchlight, bowed head, and low hanging hood, was much more boyish than his voice suggested. He appeared a little younger than either Amelia or Tasha, mid twenties to their mid/late and late twenties respectively, though this was hardly unusual to members of The Dark Court. Their line of work was such that few lived to old age.
"The first thing I ordered her to do was surrender, submit, and never take up arms against humanity again." Amelia said, sighing with relief at her own foresight. She turned to Tasha's head and asked "Is vampiric hypnotism bound to the precise verbiage of the order, or the spirit?"
"Spirit." Tasha reluctantly admitted, still bound to tell the truth.
"Well then, if that's the case..." High Inquisitor Doe started, stepping out from behind the altar and throwing his arms around Amelia's body, not seeming to care in the least as blood soaked into his black robes. The body submit as per Amelia's instructions, not using its immense vampiric strength to simply rip Doe's arms right out of their sockets and beat him to death with his own limbs as it otherwise easily could've. "What the fuck do we do now? We can't just leave this unholy abomination alive... undead... whatever! As long as she's still here, she's still a threat to humanity."
"Agreed." Amelia replied, reluctantly. "Given enough time, strong wills have been known to overpower hypnotic spells, and even if her will were weak, the spell ends at the death of the master. Unlike Tasha, I have not renounced my mortality, so with my death she is unbound." She turned her former friend's head around, wanting both to punch her big stupid grin and hug her while crying. "How do we destroy you?"
"Honestly, I don't know." Tasha answered, redundantly and unhelpfully. "From what I could tell, the traditional methods will all hurt me, but none of them will kill me outright. It's been hundreds of years since the last true vampire was born, and in that time the unholy forces have really been cooking up some nasty shit. This pretty little disease is resistant to almost everything!"
"Almost?" High Inquisitor Doe asked, looking up from the gaping neck stump still oozing onto his chest.
"Almost?" Amelia repeated.
"Well, cauterizing my stump definitely weakened the connection between my head and body. Cauterizing my body's stump would probably weaken the connection even more, though I doubt it'd kill meeeeee!" Tasha screamed, as Amelia bounced her head up into the air and tossed the plate to High Inquisitor Doe, who deftly caught it and pressed it to the body's stump. The body's writhed in limp protest, but quickly fell still as its stump caked over with a watertight seal of scab tissue. Amelia caught her former friends head by the hair a little off-center, the head swaying and silently laughing as she was brought up to Amelia's currently slanted eye level. Amelia watched High Inquisitor Doe release the body, which slumped down to the floor and limply twitched its legs and shoulders. It tried to get up, to get back to finding and following Amelia as per her instructions, but with its magic connection weakened the body lacked the strength or coordination to properly move. It was a start, but not the end.
"How do we kill you?" Amelia curtly asked.
"Fuck me." Tasha smugly answered, giving Amelia the same enamored, fluttering gaze she had given her back in their room not too long ago.
"Excuse me?!" Amelia asked, recoiling enough to get Tasha's head swaying anew.
"I mean, it's a longshot, but since you ordered me not to suck you dry, in the vampire sense anyway, I can't extract your life force to replenish my magic. That means that theoretically, once I run out of magic, that's that. I'm done for. My body will crumble away. And my head, too." She answered.
While Tasha had made a sincere effort to obey Amelia's command, the latter woman was in such shock that she simply couldn't put the pieces together, and asked "...What?"
While that wasn't a command, and High Inquisitor Doe was not magically compelled to answer unlike the head, he chimed in anyway. "Magic is to vampires what calories are to people. They need magic to animate themselves, so physical exertion slowly drains their magic reserves, so if we were to sufficiently 'exert' her... you know..."
Amelia blinked in disbelief. Tasha raised her eyebrows suggestively. "Surely there must be other ways to 'exert' you?" Amelia proposed, spitting out the word 'exert' like it were an angry bee.
Tasha's neck stump twitched, trying to nod but finding the maneuver unviable. "Well, I can't walk, lift weights, or do crunches any more, so my bod is basically an immortal couch potato. I'm sure you could come up with other ways to get some sweat out of me, but those ways are way less fun, don't you think? Besides, what was that you said earlier? Everything I do is in service to our most holy mission, to spare mankind the of the horrors beyond the veil? Isn't this, like, your call of duty?"
A long, awkward silence hung in the air.
"Dibs on the body!" High Inquisitor Doe declared, grabbing the vampire's headless form and dragging it over to the altar.
"You what?!" Amelia demanded, her head whipping around so fast it nearly snapped off to match Tasha's.
"You heard what she said, our best chance to destroy her is to drain her stamina. Our scholars can crunch the numbers and figure out the most efficient way to do this, but those studies will take time, and while we wait for the results we may as well do what we know could work. So decrees the High Inquisitor, who outranks you." He said, hiking up Tasha's robes to reveal two long, slender legs and thick ginger bush over a wet, undead pussy quivering with excitement.
"You... ugh!" Amelia groaned, her arms dropping to her sides and accidentally bouncing Tasha's head off her bare thigh. The head gave her skin a tender smooch, sending shivers up Amelia's spine and putting every hair on her body on edge.
"So... like, what do we do, now?" One of the forgotten Gregorian chanters asked, his comrades squirming awkwardly in the choir box as High Inquisitor Doe undid the belt of his robe and Amelia stormed off in a huff.
"I don't know, either form a line and wait your turn or report to the eggheads downstairs with everything we learned, I don't give a fuck!" Doe answered, grabbing Tasha's squirming hips and going in. The choir all looked at each other, before 20 of the 24 men, women, and others scrambled over one another to queue up behind Doe, while the 4 more uptight singers went to inform the scholars, muttering disapprovingly to one another as their comrades excitedly elbowed each other and jockeyed for position.
As Amelia stomped down the halls, still carrying Tasha's head at her side a thought occurred to her. Without breaking stride, she raised Tasha to face her, and saw the vampire stupidly grinning. "You seem quite cheerful for someone who's going to die."
"I was a human for my whole life, remember? Up until a month ago, I was always going to die." She answered casually.
"How long do you expect this death by a thousand fucks to take, given your current magic stockpile?" Amelia asked, shouldering her way through the door into their shared quarters. Rose petals remained scattered across the floor, and in her haste Amelia hadn't had the time to blow out the romantic candles she'd used in her distraction, leaving the room smelling of sweet incense and soothing sandalwood. It had been quite a romantic set up, and would've remained so if Tasha weren't an undead severed head fueled by dark magic.
Tasha recounted the last month in her head, squinting with concentration as she tried to remember all of her blood crazed meals. "Well, I drank 4 goats, a dozen rats, 2 dogs, and 3 adult people, so..." She looked up at the ceiling, like she was solving a very difficult equation. "...then carry the one, and... about fifty seven years, give or take." She reported, her smile growing in direct proportion to the growing look of horror in Amelia's eyes. "Assuming I'm just constantly getting fucked at all hours of the day. If I'm just lying inert, like vampires typically do when they hibernate in their coffins, that brings me up to, like a hundred years or so. So, how long do you plan on living, my master?"
Amelia made a timid, murmuring noise in the back of her throat. Even as nothing but a head, and a hypnotized head bound to her will at that, Tasha still somehow managed to hold all the cards. Amelia squeezed her eyes shut, recentering herself. She recited her vows in her head, again and again, as Tasha licked her lips expectantly.
With a final, deep breath, Amelia's confidence and faith in the ultimate triumph of humanity restored. When her eyes opened again, they wore her warrior glare. "I'll live however long it takes to vanquish you, traitor." She swore, shoving Tasha's head down into the firm mattress of Amelia's bed, the lower of the bunk beds. Straddling the head with her already bared thighs, her shaved snatch barely out of reach of the greedy vampire's tongue, Amelia had one final question for her former friend. "Tell me, was it worth it? All this, just so you could bed me after all these years?"
Tasha snorted. "I'll tell you in a few decades! For now, quit stalling and follow your oath, you s-mrphm! <3"
"Lick. No biting." Amelia ordered, rocking her hips.
The things she did for God.
