"Ok, Lil," Trae says after a few moments, "All subroutines loaded, you are go for entry."

Lillian pauses and takes a deep breath (as if she can actually breathe here, she thinks to herself with a snicker, my actual body is laying on a comfy couch in the room next to the control room where Trae is seated in the real world). "Just to make sure, all safety protocols in place?"

Trae reassures her, "Uh...", pauses to double check, "Yeah, got all green lights here. If the simulation crashes, the software will pull you out before anything can happen to you."

Having done this dozens of times for other simulations, Lillian raises her hand towards the giant cube. I shouldn't get nervous, she tells herself, I'm not a rookie anymore, and this is part of my job, but there is always something scary yet exhilarating about entering a new world.
