Emma and Rachel

Friday, September 8th

The next day was Friday which meant it was time for magic club! I was so excited I could hardly wait but I did homework pretty much all day. Alice had to go to work in the morning and she even gave my head a kiss goodbye and thanked me for the night before. She also assured me that her boyfriend would never find out, but honestly I didn’t really care.

But then later when I got to campus, I just had to make the stupidest, most embarrassing and callous mistake I have ever made or ever will make... I forgot my head because it wasn’t attached.

Okay so, after I’d parked and removed my head again from its temporary position on my neck, I’d set it down in the passenger seat and gathered my things. And I suppose I got a bit too comfy with the routine because I closed the car with my head still inside it. Okay whatever, dumb Emma moment. But then to my horror, as the doors locked and my body started fumbling for the keys and I found them... laying on the driver's seat.

I didn’t want to believe what had just happened, for obvious reasons. I’d never locked my keys in my car before, and the one time I had to go do it was when my head wasn’t attached and I’d gone and locked that in with them. Not only that, but on the day of the Magic Club meeting, the thing I’d been obsessing over for days. Go me, right?

I looked up at my body through the window.

“This is your fault.” I said to it, I don’t know why. It was still most of me, just not the bit that could think and see and hear and talk. Maybe if my body had a mind of its own it would’ve known not to lock its most important component in the car? Then again, I had felt rather absent minded at the moment so maybe I could blame my body. Since I’d had my head off, all the second nature things I usually do have just felt like they were my body doing them, if that makes sense.

I blew some hair out of my face and sighed. “Okay Emma, you got yourself into this mess you get yourself out.” I said. “Oh dear god I’m talking to myself.”

I decided to get my phone out and blindly try to text Alice. She was off at 4 so maybe she could come let me in on her way back. I’d be late but that was the best case scenario at this point. I walked my body around to the side my head was on, and stood at the window. Every action I did on my phone I had to point it back at my head to make sure it was right, opening my phone, opening the text messages, finding Alice, and then I had to text without looking. I suppose someone in my age demographic could do that, right?

I turned my phone to my head to see what I wrote before I sent it. It was legible, but confusing. I figured it was close enough and I sent it. Now it was 10 to 4. Okay so I was gonna be late, I’m sure the other magic people have made mistakes like this before right? I realized as I was just leaning against my car, any perv could come by and grope me at any time. Just an attractive young girl standing out in the open with no head, what could go wrong with that?

Then my phone vibrated in my hand and I held it up to the window. Alice had replied with-

???

God dammit.

But then, as I vigorously typed again I heard a muffled male voice. “Oh fuck!” I hissed. Then a female voice. I saw a face look in the window down at me. He was friendly looking, had curly dark hair and a strong jawline. All I could do was smile up at him.

And then the car unlocked. A mix of fear and confusion set in as the passenger door opened.

“I did it!” The female voice quipped. And the guy bent down to look at me. Actually he leaned back. Yeah, his head was on backwards.

“Hello.” I said nervously.

“Are you going to magic club?” He asked. His voice was deep and eloquent.

“Umm, yes.” I told him.

“So are we!” The girl said.

“Hang on-“ I stepped forward with my body and the guy got out of the way. I picked up my head and set it atop the car so I could retrieve my keys. There was the guy with his head on backwards, and the girl who had long dark hair and pretty dark eyes, her arms were more than twice the length of normal arms wrapped over her shoulders and hanging down to her thighs.

“Hello.” I said timidly. “Thanks for uh- breaking into my car?”

The girl chuckled. “I’m pretty well trained in mental magic, that’s how I unlocked your car.”

“Yeah, that’s why she’s got super long arms, because she’s such a lazy ass she just summons things to her from across the room. Now she has to use her arms.” The guy explained.

“I mean, I don’t have to.” The girl said, as I put my keys in my purse and locked my car. I took my head off the roof before I closed the door, since the day before I’d closed it on my hair (stop laughing!).

“So you two are magic peeps as well?” I asked them as I tucked my head under my arm.

“Yeah! I’m Haley and this is my boyfriend-“

“Matthew.”

“I’m Emma.”

“Nice to meet you, Emma. Is this your body too? Or are you borrowing someone else’s?” Haley asked.

“Oh no, this is mine.” I chuckled. I didn’t know it was possible to borrow bodies! In that case, Alice’s body would soon be mine.

“I don’t remember seeing you at magic club last week.” Matthew told me.

“Oh no I wasn’t there. I actually noticed some magic club people walking around this week and as a result I got to meet with Dr. Bluebell, and he- took off my head.” I giggled.

“Oh sweet! We met Kaden when we took chemistry together last semester.” Matthew said.

“Yeah. I summoned a beaker to our table but I fucked up halfway through so it fell and broke.” Recalled Haley. “Kaden took away my head for that, kinda like you except I literally had no head.”

“Yeah, it was funny.” Matthew said, Haley slapped his arm. “What? It was!” She rolled her eyes. Matthew continued- “Anyway, Kaden invited us to come to magic club and he put my head on backwards because I kept forgetting things.”

“Oh that sounds like fun. Does it help?” I asked.

“Yeah!” Matthew nodded. Haley shook her head and mouthed ‘no’ to me. I giggled and checked my phone.

“Hey we’re gonna be late!” I noticed.

“Oh shit it’s almost 4.” Haley agreed. “Babe, let’s go!”

We walked up to campus, Matthew seemingly having mastered walking with his head on backwards. Now that I was finally going to magic club, I wasn’t exactly anticipating getting my head back on, rather I was looking forward to learning how to take people’s heads off (especially Alice’s), and whatever crazy thing Blue had in store for me next! And yes, also to see how it’ll play into Alice and I’s… activities.

The ‘using my head’ this time around was actually holding my head up above everything else to spot the door to get another previously nonexistent room. Dr. Bluebell was standing at it. I led Matthew and Haley over and he greeted us.

“Welcome, Miss Abbott.” He greeted me in that same soothing tone.

“Hello!” I greeted him back.

“How have the last two days been for you?”

“They’ve been so fun. And cool, and weird.”

“As they should be. I’ll ask you more about your experiences as we proceed with club, go ahead and sit down wherever you like.”

“Thanks!” I walked in and sat down at the end of the second row. The room was already mostly full, being a little shy as I normally was I distanced myself a bit. I turned my head around in my hands to see all the wildly manipulated students: one had four arms, another had no legs, one girl had an arm for every limb, the top one had her head on it instead of a hand. I also spotted Rachel, who waved her shoe at me and I waved back. A few students just had rearranged faces or multiple appendages. One guy’s face was even detached. I set my head down on the desk as Haley and Matthew sat next to me (Matthew had to sit backwards in his seat, which was funny). Dr. Bluebell then walked to the front of the classroom and began the meeting.

“Welcome, welcome everybody to magic club! This is meeting two of the fall semester. I hope everybody has had a fun and enlightening week.”

Many students agreed.

“Wonderful. I’d first like to introduce a new member of our club, Miss Emma Abbott.” Blue gestured to me and I picked up my head so everyone could see me. They all said hi and waved (if they could). I smiled and set my head back down again.

“Very nice. Now today will be business as usual, you will each come to the front and tell about your experiences this week and what you learned. We will start with you Stephen, come to the front please.”

He gestured to the first guy sitting on the end of the first row, directly in front of me. He had two extra legs, arranged in a group of four like Squidward.

“Hey guys, this was my first experience with magic so this was really weird. But it got cool after a while, I like to run a lot, which is why Kaden gave me extra legs. It actually makes walking almost as fun as running and I can run twice as fast. It’s a lot easier than it looks, so thanks Kaden.” He gave a thumbs up and sat back down. We all clapped, well at least everybody who could clap.

“Thank you Stephen. Sandra if you would like to go next.”

The next student over, a beautiful Middle Eastern girl, stood up and walked to the front. Her head and shoulders were attached directly to her hips, I think I’d actually seen her a few days prior.

“Hey guys, so this week was a lot of fun. But it was kinda hard not having arms. I wanna give a shout-out to my boyfriend for driving me everywhere and helping me carry things. The reason I was made- like this-“ she chuckled. “-was because I’m actually really tall normally, and I’ve always been really weird about my arms for some reason. But now I’ll be more grateful for my arms and torso when I get them back! Thanks Kaden.” She sat down and we clapped again.

As students continued to come up, I recognized the ones I’d seen around campus before. One guy with a hole in his torso, a girl with four arms, a guy with a hand in place of his neck and his head detached like mine. And then it was my turn to go!

“Hi everyone, so I actually just met Kaden a couple days ago and he removed my head because I’m very smart, and I had to get a new perspective on the importance of my body by relying on my body to carry my head. Which I have, and also this has been my first magic experience so I didn’t even know this was possible until recently. I had fun being in two places at once, but, as Haley and Matthew here can attest to, I did lock my head in my car before coming here.” Most students laughed. “Yes, and I wanna give a thanks to Rachel for informing me about this club and Dr. Bluebell.” I pointed to my neck. “This is hands down the coolest thing I’ve ever experienced! So thanks, Kaden!” Everybody clapped and I sat back down.

Haley went next, and she talked about how having super long arms made her even more lazy, but also how it was fun for Matthew. Speaking of Matthew, he had a good story about learning how to walk backwards since he was blind trying to walk normally, although driving was basically impossible for him so he gave thanks to Haley for that.

After the rest of the students had finished, and I’d seen more weird and wild bodily configurations than I could’ve ever hoped to see, Dr. Bluebell took over at the front of the room again.

“Very splendid job, everybody. Now that you all have learned something over the past week, it’s time I reverse the magical spells cast upon each of you. Once this is done, you should be able to do the trick yourself as well as to others. But we’ll get to that. Now… three… two… one.”

And just like that, my head was back on my shoulders. It was a bit odd after having gotten used to having it off. I rocked my head back and forth and rubbed my neck. Many others were feeling their previously missing or altered parts.

“Now, after experiencing these tricks for the past few days, you should be able to do them yourself. Just concentrate and the fact that your body has experienced magic will allow you to do the trick in question. Concentrate and think about it, then you will be able to do the trick on yourself using whatever method you wish. Once you’ve done that, you are to undo the trick again. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me.”

Silence fell over the room. I wasn’t sure whether to physically take my head off or just think about it and it’ll happen. I decided to put my hands on my head and think about it. It took me some time and focus, but after a minute or so a numbing sensation arose in my neck and I was able to remove my head with ease! It was actually jarring when I finally got it. I fumbled with my head a bit before putting it back on my desk. Thinking and concentrating again, I picked up my head and placed it back on my neck. The magic tingling returned and I was whole again! I noticed a bit of my neck was phased back into being when my head was reattached, I guess that’s why my head ended at the jaw when it was off and why it would only reattach temporarily. In any event, I was proud of myself and excited that I now had the ability to take off my head! And other people’s heads too I hoped.

Once everybody had magicked themselves back to normal again, some with Kaden’s help, he walked back to the front- “Very good job everyone! Now that you all have demonstrated you can do these magic spells to yourself and reverse them again, I would like everyone to pair up with someone else and demonstrate on each other. This will make for some excellent practice for you to be able to do more magic in the future. This can also make for a great opportunity to get to know one other. Now, go find somebody. As always, I am available for any and all inquiries.

I looked around the room. It was so odd seeing everyone in one piece and normal to be honest. I saw Haley and Matthew had turned to one another, and then I noticed Rachel waving to me from across the room. I smiled and made my way over to her.

“Wow, this is the first time I’ve seen you… normal.” I chuckled.

“Thanks.” Rachel laughed. We hugged and sat down facing each other.

“So, how are you gonna swap my arms and legs?” I asked her.

“I was thinking about that, but to make things easier for you how about you pop off my head first?” Rachel suggested.

“Oh, okay. I mean, I don’t know how well I’ll do it.” I stood up.

“That’s fine! It’s about learning isn’t it?”

“Of course.” I hesitated, and put my hands on Rachel’s head. She was really pretty, had long billowing dark hair and dark eyes. I wouldn’t mind borrowing her head to be honest. I concentrated and thought for a moment, I didn’t feel any tingling so asked her. “Do you feel anything?”

“No. But keep trying!” She urged me. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. “I feel something!” Rachel reported, so I lifted and her head came off in my hands.

“Oh my god!” She said. “That felt so weird, good job!”

“Thanks.” I set Rachel’s head down on her desk. She looked to her right at her body, feeling herself up and petting the stump of neck between her shoulders just like I did when I was headless. And despite having experienced it myself for two days, seeing someone else like that was pretty surreal.

“This is so fucking cool! Was this hard for you? Like getting used to this?”

“A bit.” I said. “I was mostly distracted by the whole thing though.” I sat back down and watched as Rachel stood up and awkwardly walked her body around her desk a few times.

“Looks like you’re getting the hang of it! I found it easier to carry my head than to walk around without it.” I told her.

“I feel like this would be really fun. My head’s so heavy with all my hair, blah. Just leave it behind.” Rachel laughed as she sat her body back down.

“Yeah, I noticed that too. So are you ready to try your magic on me?” I asked her.

“Yeah! Here, I have a way of doing it. Basically I’m going to channel magic into you to do the trick, which means I have to put my hand on your chest. Is that cool with you?”

“Uh, yeah! Here, I don’t have much chest showing but-“ I looked down. I was wearing a t-shirt.

“That’s fine!” Rachel’s body leaned forward and gently placed her hand on my chest, well mostly my lower neck and collar bone area.

Then it happened. My bare legs were emerging from my shirt sleeves, one hanging off the chair and the other lying on the desk. I still had my shoes on my feet though, then I looked down and saw my empty jeans inside which my arms hung down stuck to my hips. It was almost overwhelming, and yet I was somehow able to adjust quickly. I guess because I had no choice. I stood up on my relocated legs and started walking around upside down, I couldn’t take big strides since my butt was still in its proper place but I bet I must’ve looked silly as can be, mainly because my arms were pretty much pointless. Especially since my pant legs were covering them. My ass must’ve looked great, though.

“You’re a natural!” Rachel clapped. I turned my head and smiled at her.

“Thanks!” Chuckling from how crazy this was, I sat back down and repositioned myself, blowing some hair out of my face.

“That was really good! It’s easier to do when you put on shorts so your arms are available, plus walking on your hands helps too.” Rachel told me.

“I can’t imagine how you’re able to get used to that. I’d get turned around so easily.”

“You get used to it.” Rachel shrugged her empty shoulders. “Wanna be put back?” She asked.

“Sure, but first let me see how well you can carry your head.” I winked at her.

“Oh, okay.” Rachel laughed and stood up, carefully lifting her head off the desk and quickly getting the hang of carrying it in her hands. She did a few laps around the desk before sitting down again.

“That was good! I guess that’s easier to get used to than this.” I lifted my legs.

“It feels pretty fun, carrying myself like that. Here, let me swap your limbs back.” Rachel put her hand to my chest again and I was back to normal. I fixed my hair again before putting Rachel’s head back on for her. Just then, Dr. Bluebell called for us to reconvene and I waved to Rachel as I went back to my seat.

“Very excellent work everybody. Now, I hope you’ve all learned a lot about magic and expanded your horizons a bit. Now to close out our meeting for this week, I will come to each of you individually and give you your new magical spell for the upcoming week. I will start with Stephen and work my way to the back. Feel free to practice your magic while you wait.”

As Kaden addressed each student, Haley struck up a conversation with me asking how I got to meet Kaden. I decided to remove my head again and hand it over to Haley so we could talk. After a few minutes, we exchanged contact info and Haley said she’d love to meet up and practice magic together! Once Dr. Bluebell got to Matthew, Haley and I watched as he did the new trick on him which was familiar for me, because he detached Matthew’s head!

“Holy shit.” He felt his neck stump as he turned his body around in his chair. “This is so cool! No wonder you like this so much.” He looked at me. I playfully stuck out my tongue.

Haley handed my head back to me once Kaden got to her. I put my head back on just in time to see Haley have her arms taken away completely. Dr. Bluebell remarked that now it was time for her to improve her telekinetic abilities after having them compromised with long arms. Haley seemed pleased with it. As Kaden stepped over to my desk, my heart was beating out of my chest.

“So, you have enjoyed the last two days and you have learned a valuable lesson, yes?”

“I have!”

“Which is-?”

“My body is still very important, and without it my head, in all its intelligence and cuteness, couldn’t go anywhere.”

“Precisely. Now, it’s time for your new trick. This will be your state for the next week-“

And suddenly, I changed again. I was off center now, like my neck was growing out of my shoulder. I looked down and noticed that my left boob was directly below my chin, then I looked to my right, and on my right was… me! Not me headless like last time, but… my head! I had two heads!

“Hello Emma.” She said to me.

“Hi.” I said nervously. I turned back to Blue.

“Dr. Bluebell, how exactly are my heart and lungs supporting two living heads?” I asked.

“My thoughts exactly.” Said the other me.

“I thought you would ask that. So now you have a second mind, just as clever and intelligent as your own. A second opinion, and yes, a vanity outlet. But maintaining two heads takes extra work, as you will learn.”

I gave two thumbs up. “Thanks Kaden!”

This was going to be the best week of my life wasn’t it?
