Nipponese Subculture Groups!
This is an odd idea I’ve been playing with recently. It was inspired by this little blurb here; www.deviantart.com/sickstar/ar… Basically, I love the idea that this inflation trend is just one of many, and just sort of ran with it.
I’m thinking of a special, high-profile academy in Nippon, an island nation off the east coast of Japan with an incredibly magic-oriented culture. A number of transformative trends have swept through youth culture. They each have their own aspirations, their own philosophical tenets, and their own transformational approaches to life. Young people there have always been given to embracing sub-culture identities, and that’s especially true at this academy.
The thing is, the way the social systems interact, these groups effectively control most of the important functions of the academy. Almost like fraternities and sororities in American colleges (according to cheesy 80s movies, at any rate, which might not be a coincidence given the amazing about of mutual cultural influence at play here). Membership in one group or another is almost compulsory if you want to be treated seriously. At first I was thinking of a story following a foreign exchange student navigating the academy, but I ended up liking this setting a lot more than the plot. I don’t know if I’ll ever do anything with this, but I thought it was fun enough to share.
So here’s a list of each of the major subgroups. I could always add more. And if anyone wants to run with this idea with a story or a caption, by all means be my guest! I tried to think of a philosophical underpinning, transformational approaches, social interactions, and possible downsides or risks to each faction. In the end, I got the sense of something almost like an anime premise from all of this.
Futiko
The Futiko craze embraces gender identity and twists it in a unique way. The people of this group all appear to be very feminine women, save for the addition of a larger than average penis. Whether an individual Futiko is shemale with only male genitals or fully hermaphroditic is left up to the individual, but most often determined by money (having both sets of equipment is notably more expensive). Aside from their singular masculine endowment, Futiko girls take pain to cultivate feminine images, often having other modifications but keeping the rest of their form within normal ranges for Nipponese women. As such, they tend towards the petite and slender in build.
The group gravitates towards extravagantly feminine clothing. Some have embraced gothic Lolita fashion, while others choose to wear more traditional Nipponese lady’s garb. Often, these lacey or silken gowns are altered to accommodate their penises, but even these are handled with a feminine touch. Futikos rarely bear their members in public, preferring to clothe their cocks in delicate socks-like garments that cover the head with ribbons adorning the shaft.
In personality, the group emphasizes lady-like etiquette that is often archaic. Futiko girls are often submissive and subservient in relationships, and steadfastedly ignore their erections in public (even when said erections are more than a foot long). Others choose to embody a more cultured, high-class persona, sometimes modeled after European notions of ladyhood. All of them study tea ceremonies, hostess duties, and other conventionally feminine roles and duties in Nipponese society. Notably, somewhere around half of Futikos began as actual, biological males, but the group considers it impolite to discuss pre-futa gender.
Minimalists
The Minimalists group is a rather recent, modern subculture that developed in embrace of modern inner-city Nipponese living conditions. As the greatest cities of the country adapt to truly tremendous populations, apartment and office sizes began to shrink and become prohibitively expensive. Some people ran with this, and took steps to minimize themselves to match their surroundings. The minimalists have as much of their bodies as they can magically removed (most often sold as ingredients for other magical endeavors). Because of the frugality of this life-style, it has become popular amongst many children of working-class families.
Most minimalists live in groups with overlapping functions. For example, it’s not uncommon for one to be reduced down to a head, breasts, and a vagina when she handles office or secretarial work that can be arranged with a headphone (or her own body, depending on the office). This form is often considered ideal for its compactness, but is also effectively immobile, so a minimalist like this would try to live with similarly-minded individuals with complementary changes, like an SWB woman with legs and head
Many minimalists have expressed interest in nascent digitization transformations, or ultimately pursue conjoinment or absorptions. They have a reputation for efficiency, but are also considered somewhat lower-class for the subgroups’ origins.
Hidden Girls
The Hidden Girls sub-group embraced the pleasurable possibilities of extraordinary transformations, but also cling to old and traditional appearances. The core of this sub-group is the pursuit of sexual transformations, but without being externally visible. In some places, the group operates entirely under cover, but in places like university where group membership of some sort is assumed, they usually signal their affiliation with a single stripe of brightly dyed hair or elaborate earrings on only one ear.
Common transformations include greatly elongated and erogenous tongues, erogenous lips or vaginas in lieu of nipples, retractable penises, and hidden orifices. Some are said to ‘blossom’ with sexual organs and additions when their clothes come off. They are famed for their enthusiasm and creativity in the bedroom, but strive to maintain a normal appearance in public.
They have many challenges that their community bonds over (for example, they circulate tips on how to properly pad a bra to keep constantly lubricating vaginal-nipples from soaking through a girl’s top). Some members are known to get too creative, losing grasp on their public façade. Rumors suggest that other Hidden Girls usually restrain such members, and have them converted into limbless sex-pets, for safe keeping in their club houses.
Bountifuls
The Bountifuls groups embraces hyper-large breasts, and occasionally other sexualized expansions. But, unlike conventional breast expansions in other places, the Bountiful ideal involves proportions utterly impossible without magical intervention. The minimum proportions to join are boobs that are each three feet in diameter. To be respected amongst the group, a girl’s breasts must be too large for her to wrap her arms around. The veteran girls of the group have breasts that are far too large for them to lift under their own power, and require enchanted gravity-defying garments to even stand up straight.
The group had origins in prostitute cultures, and to this day retains a risqué and slightly vulgar character. Many girls also have their asses and vaginas enlarged, although rarely to such proportions. They have a reputation for being slutty, but a growing number of girls (and guys) are attracted to the look for its embrace of magical possibility, and the ability to openly display sexuality.
Bountiful groups trade stories of members who were stranded without their gravity-garments. Almost every active Bountiful knows a friend or two who have become too large for even those garments to work, and are now effectively immobile, anchored between two automobile-sized breasts, usually in a lounge or club where others are invited to take use of her tremendous assets or needy pussy.
Jade Serpents
A long-standing social club, the Jade Serpents chose to make their name profoundly literal when magic became readily available. Now, every person who calls herself a Jade Serpent must be a female naga.
The transformation and its related amenities (long but retractable forked tongue, artful scales, enhanced senses, etc.) are considerably expensive, and so the Jade Serpents retain much of their upper-class status. Some people are able to enter with slightly cheaper transformations, often giving up their arms in the process, but this is seen as a role partially subservient to the full (or even many-armed) snakes.
The Jade Serpents are cultured, with an emphasis on rational discourse, learning, and artistic performance. However, many have noted that senior members can be something akin to size-queens, and it has long been rumored that junior members are frequently absorbed by more senior or prominent ones. The Jade Serpents vehemently deny this, but there is no denying that some of their girls have much longer tails and more sets of breasts than they did when they started.
Pet Girls
A number of early transformation looks focused around adding animal characteristics, most frequently cat or fox ears. The Pet Girls group ran with this, adding more features in pursuit of an adorable image. Members play into their new appearances, with mannerisms specially designed to be cute and adorable. By the time a Nipponese citizen reaches adulthood, the requirements to be a Pet Girl include being no taller than three feet with at least partial fur, a tail, and animal ears from a generally ‘cute’ animal, such as a fox, cat, or red panda. Increasingly, many Pet Girls choose to have the mass taken away from their height reduction transferred to their breasts, of which they usually have six to eight.
Pet Girls foster a reputation for being bubbly, cheery, and adorable. As a result, many people consider them somewhat vapid or unintelligent, and members can find it difficult to be taken seriously. However, many members lean into this assumption, and play off angles that favor petting, stroking, or touching their fuzzy, petite, and well-endowed forms. (Others prefer to play these assumptions for personal or professional gain, but they appear to be outnumbered by the members who are just happy to be petted).
Increasingly, a number of Pet Girls go further, having their hands replaced with paws and having their limbs altered to be fully quadruped. Such changes are usually only done when one is ready to become someone’s actual pet. There are numerous ways this can play out; some Pet Girls are widely acknowledged to call the shots in their households, effectively being waited on hand and foot (or paw and paw) by their owners, without having any responsibilities of their own. Others are treated almost indistinguishably from normal pets, even going so far as to have their voices changed so they can only communicate through purrs and meows.
Doll Girls
The Doll Girls (also called the Automata) are a recent but exceedingly popular subgroup. Their central identity focuses around the practical, beautiful, and functional, and they interpret this through limited inanimate transformation. Specifically, they strive to make themselves at least partially mechanical. At first, this is intended to cut down on their needs and simplify life, but over time it is expected to segue into becoming more effective and efficient at one’s profession or position.
At the university stage, most adherents to this philosophy will have become rather doll like in appearance, with visibly synthetic skin. Because of the group’s aesthetic sensibilities, members are entirely feminine by this point. A number of the more artistic types aim for a clockwork aesthetic, whereas another modernist school favors body designs that appear more robotic. However, by this time many have found some device or function they want to be more integrated with. Increasingly smart-phones and electronics are the case, where it is not unusual for a girl to have a device installed on her limbs for easy access (or torso, for others to have easy access), but some have more physical tastes, and can have themselves transformed to be part of everything from washing machines to motorcycles.
Most girls who pursue this subculture end up fully inanimate. Many do strive to remain independent or at least partially animate, but even they will often find themselves immobile, part of an office computer or a bust perched on top of an entertainment system, to name some examples. The group greatly respects these girls as having realized the most functional epitome of the guiding philosophy, and often aspires to similar states. A growing number are opting to transition, bit by bit, into wind-up or robotic automata. The magic and technology to create perfectly robotic citizens doesn’t exist yet, so these Doll Girls don’t retain free will in their fully automated states. While many are sold or leased to outside parties, the group retains the service of a number of such units to help maintain and tend to their immobile appliance-sisters.
Bubble Girls
The Bubble Girls are a peculiar group that revolves around a rebellion against popular ideas of petite forms, sleek functionality, and a general cultural drive towards miniaturization and efficiency. By contrast, the subculture that identifies itself as Bubble Girls is defined by a deep desire to be big and take up space. There is a surprising degree of philosophical discourse behind the decision, but the central themes reflect a desire to simply exist and make a passive statement to the effect of one’s presence in the world.
Towards this end, the Bubble Girls inflate themselves. The process involves magical air pumps and takes much longer than other cultural sub-group transformations, but over the course of months or years they slowly change their forms. They become much larger and much rounder. By the university point, a respectable Bubble Girl will be at least six feet wide, the mass of her body adopting a roughly spherical shape, with her head and somewhat diminished limbs barely poking out, the curves of her breasts giving her a definitively feminine outline. Of course, bigger is generally considered better, and past this point Bubble Girls will expand beyond the point where their arms and legs are useful, and will need to be rolled around to move.
Bubble Girls are often regarded as simple or silly by outsiders. This, in no small part, is due to the comical wobble they adopt as they grow wider, and the rolling required when they grow larger still. Many keep normal-proportioned aid on hand to help them, but not all can afford such help. At greater volumes popping becomes a problem. At this point, the girls are mostly compressed air, and their outer layer has a consistency similar to rubber. Once popped, the scraps can be gathered and refined into useful, magically sensitive latex and rubber, and so a not insignificant number of Bubble Girls wind up as fetish-wear, pool toys, or other high-end sapient products.
Elementals
One of the newest trends, traceable to western influence over the last ten years, involves a partial merging of human with an element. There is constant debate over what exactly qualifies as an element, but fire, water, and air are universally agreed upon (earth, wood, metal, and even electricity exist and are rather contested). The overall philosophy holds that embracing an aspect of both human nature and universal existence can lead to harmony, energy, and overall greatly improved experience. The members of this group have various tests, quizzers, and tools they use to help people determine which element is the best fit for their personality. Once an element is chosen, the merging begins.
The merging usually starts out subtle. There will be changes to hair color, skin tone, and personality in lieu with the chosen element (Fire Girls tend to be adventurous and outgoing, Water Girls mercurial and reflective, etc.). By all accounts, the elemental affinity feels great, and nearly all Elementals pursue their merger further. By the university point, most Elementals will be partially composed of their chosen element, with practical affinity and control over it. For example, a Fire Girl could have hair that’s a perpetual magical flame (the actual heat and danger controlled by her own nature), whereas a Water Girl may be perpetually ‘clothed’ in flowing surf and mist, which in actuality is a semi-controlled extension of herself. As people become more involved, the changes become more pronounced; very enthusiastic Air Girls are transparent, and advanced Water Girls may be composed entirely of liquid, maintaining a mostly a human shape by concentration of will.
More so than most other groups, people who merge with an element tend to find themselves drawn to greater and greater changes. It’s actually fairly rare for an Elementalist to graduate university, as most pursue their affinity to a point of general inanamicy by that point. The end results are as varied as the elements. A Water Girl could become a swimming a pool, join a river, volunteer herself to become the substrate for potions or drinks. An Earth Girl could become a gardening plot or a detailed marble statue. An Air Girl could simply become clouds, or pour herself into an aspiring Bubble Girl to effectively catch her up on years of inflation. As a very recent subculture, most other groups don’t really have concrete opinions on Elementalists, other than noting their eccentricity and their unlikeliness to stay animate too long.
