The video started up as an awkwardly taken selfie style video. Taking up most of the video was a massive mosh-pit of people. They were all wearing what could best be described as rave gear, dark clothes with neon, glow-in-the-dark colors coming out of them. The large, warehouse like place they were raving in was decked out with a similar atmosphere, the roof covered in the cheap plastic, glow-in-the-dark stars that would not seem out of place in a childhood bedroom, and low-level light spotlights that were lightly spinning around so that people could actually see where they were.
In the lower right corner of the vertically-recorded cellphone video, was a strange sight. It appeared what could best be described as a triangular, light blue LCD screen. It had a cartoonish little face on it about dead center of the screen. It’s lips moved in sync as a female voice blared over the loudspeaker.
“Hey everyone! Make some noise for my ANGA audition!” The crowd went ballistic, as the lights in the venue changed color in time with the beat drop.
The video suddenly jump cut to a much more relaxed setting with much higher quality video footage. Based on the black, concrete walls, it was most likely just a backstage room in the same venue, and sitting on a comfy looking black bean-bag was the triangle-headed individual from earlier.
With the music now nothing more than a throbbing sound in the background, and with better, bright lights, it was clear that the individual was a woman, wearing what appeared to be a fancy piece of electronics on her head. It was a triangular pyramid, the front-most face of the pyramid having the same cute face and blue look to it as it did in the earlier section of the video, and while the other two screens could not be seen all that well from the camera’s vantage point, they seemed to be displaying flowing ocean waves in a slightly darker blue to her face, giving it the illusion of hair. The head itself looked like it might have been able to hold a human head in it, but it most likely would be an uncomfortable fit.
Below the triangular head was a rather shapely female body in a rather unique outfit. It had on black, fingerless gloves, and a strange black lace, sort of dress, sort of hoodie, short sleeved-hybrid and black pants that were so filled with holes, it looked like a dog had attacked them. Where her skin was visible, it was almost ghostly pale, and seemed to have some intricately painted tattoos that glowed the same color as her head did.
“Hey everyone!” The same synthetic sounding female voice was coming out of some unseen speakers in the head, “My name’s DJ Tetra, and I’ve got someone important I’d love you all to meet!”
The woman reached up, pulling off the pyramid head with ease, revealing a plain pale neck stump underneath. She placed the pyramid head onto a nearby table so that it was still visible, and then rolling to the other side of the bean bag, reached for something that must have been on a table that was just off camera.
When she came back in frame, she was busy putting on a new head. This head had asian features; short-cut, messy, blue-dyed color hair; and a small, silver hoop nose ring in her right nostril that matched up to the four earrings in right ear. As she attached the head to her neck stump, her eyes opened up, and she gave her rolled her neck before continuing.
“Hello. I’m Kacie, and I’m the creator of DJ Tetra,” Her voice ended up sounding slightly lower in pitch than the synthesized voice coming from the pyramid, but otherwise was pretty much a dead-ringer. “And yeah. This is my audition video for ANGA Season 3.”
“So, DJ Tetra started out as sort of an experiment in High School,” Kacie explained, rubbing the triangular head’s tip. The face on the front (which had not turned off when Kacie had attached her normal head) mouth morphed into a 3 and a light purring sound could be heard. “I would DJ at school events and pick up some money, but I didn’t really like the idea of my classmates knowing who I was, so I came up with DJ Tetra as a way to disguise myself, and I just sort of kept doing it.”
“And yeah, I’ve mostly kept to the underground scene for a while, but I really want to push into the big leagues, and I thought that ANGA would be a really good opportunity to not only show off my skills with magic, but also with music,” Kacie grinned, as she nodded towards her other head.
The very tip of her triangular head spun around, its simplistic face morphing to look like the reels of a tape, as the sound of tuning orchestra could be heard from its speakers. “Because while music isn’t completely necessary for magic, it can help greatly in achieving a desired effect, like building up tension,” the strings began playing staccatos note rising in intensity and pitch as though signaling something were to about to happen, “or maybe you want to pump the crowd up,” the strings settled down, as some trumpets began to blare out the opening bars of the rocky theme, “or maybe you want to accentuate your movements,” she waved her hands wildly, two flutes matching their pitch to how high or low her hands were.
She snapped her fingers, and the music stopped playing, the pyramid’s face returned back to normal as Kacie explained, “So yeah. I think there’s that unique aspect that I can bring to my performances that would make me a really good pick for ANGA.”
“And before you get all nervous that I might not be able to handle the big leagues of performance magic, I’ve actually done a number of gigs where I’ve mixed in magic with my music to great affect,” As she described her performances, the pyramid head displayed her vantage point at the events on it front facing LCD, “In 2015, I had a gig where they wanted me to literally raise the roof, so I made it disappear. FunkyBear and I had a ‘duel’ in 2017 where we changed size depending on how loud our side of the audience was clapping.”
“And let me tell you, the annual ‘Monster Mosh’ at Baxter’s is always a huge hit.” the video showed a crowd of people rapidly shifting shapes as they took on the form of the costume they were wearing.
“So, yeah,” Kacie smiled, popping her head off and swapping it for her pyramid head once again. “I’ve got to get back to my gig, but I really hope you’ll consider me for ANGA Season 3!” The eyes on her regular head closed as it seemed to enter a catatonic state.
“Thank you so much for watching!” DJ Tetra said in her synthetic bubbly voice, the front facing screen changing to the cute face once again. “Remember to pick Kacie!” The DJ gave a little pose with two peace signs, giving a little wink before walking off screen.
