The two black boxes on either side of the video confirmed that whoever shot the following audition was recording it vertically off of their cellphone, and based on the resolution of the video, a cellphone that was older than most. In frame, two young women stood, the tall one in a dazzling, orange, sequined leotard, her dark orange hair tied up in a side ponytail; the other significantly shorter, wearing a black, knit sweater and hiding half of her face behind her straight black hair. The nearby voice of a young girl could be heard saying, "Action!"
The orange-hair girl, who was giving her best smile to the camera the whole time, jumped into action, saying bubbly to the camera, "Hi everyone! My name is Sinopia! This is my little sister, Sable! We're both 20 years old, have a passion for magic, and we want to compete on the next season of America's Next Great Assistant!"
Under her breath, the camera picked up Sable saying, "Little sister? Only by like five minutes."
"Do you all remember Saffron from last season? Yeah, the one who should of won? Well, she's our big sister! And ever since we saw her nearly win, my little sister and I have been absolutely obsessed with magic! Watch!" Sinopia clapped her hands together, and when she pulled them apart the smallest speck of light appeared and maintained itself between her hands.
While Sinopia was displaying her spell, Sable said under her breath again, "you've been obsessed since then. I've been interested since I was like five..."
Sinopia clapped her hands together, continuing, "Anyways! Sable and I want a chance to compete so we can," Sinopia deepened her voice for the delivery of the line, "bring honor to our family name once more!"
Suddenly, the camera jerked away awkwardly, as the same young girl's voice from the start of the video whined, "Sangria! Give that back! We're trying to film something!" The sound of giggling could be heard, as the camera caught a glimpse of the girl previously holding the camera. She could not have been much older than ten years old, and was wearing a brown, frilly dress that was reminiscent of her brown, frilly hair. She was holding up her arms, revealing that whoever had stolen the phone had similarly stolen the young girl's hands straight from the end of her wrists, as they ended in two stumps. The camera caught a glimpse Sable and Sinopia reacting to the theft by starting to chase after them, before facing forwards in front of the thief once more.
The view bobbed and weaved through several rooms and down a staircase, before the thief seemed to simply forgo their ill-gotten goods, tossing the phone into the air, where it bounced several times off the carpeted floor before landing underneath a couch, conveniently showing a view of the room from the floor.
Sinopia and Sable ran into the room, Sinopia leading the charge, before they paused briefly in the room, Sinopia shouting out, "Sangria! I swear to God! When I find you I'm-"
She didn't get to complete that thought, as two more little children ran in, the slightly taller one with white hair and wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans, stumbling around, crying while she chasing after the significantly younger child with wild green hair and wearing green overalls. "Sara! Get back here and throw them up!"
The white girl fell down hard on the ground, eliciting a louder cry, while the younger green one ran out of the room. Sinopia gave an annoyed look towards the girl on the ground, before chasing after the little green girl herself, shouting, "Saratoga! Get back here this instant!"
Sable's sour demeanor seemed to soften slightly as she sat down on the ground, picking up the toddler-sized child and cradling her in her lap, "What happened Shi?"
Through sobs and snot, Shi managed to say, "I was watching TV in the living room. And then Sara came in and ate my toes! Look!" the girl lifted up her pale foot, revealing that several of her toes and a significant amount of her foot was missing from bite shaped marks.
Sable tried her best to calm her down, cooing, "Oh. You know Sara's just going through her biting phase right now and trying to bite everything, just like you did when you were her age. She didn't mean to do it to make you upset, she just wanted to see what would happen."
"But what if I don't get them back!" Shi cried, her sobs renewing, "Everyone at school's gonna think I'm a freak with no toes!"
"Well, let's see what we can do then," Sable smiled, parting her hair out of her face. With her free hand, she drew a box in the air, a small black flame appearing at her fingertip to indicate where she had drawn. She created a vertical line down the middle, and suddenly floating in air was what appeared to be the insides of a medicine cabinet, with a variety of small vials mingling alongside the regular pill bottles one would expect in a medicine cabinet.
Sable picked up a small paste, warning Shi, "Now, this might sting a little," before applying it to the bite mark locations. The little girl whimpered a little bit, before she noticed the skin where the bite marks were seemed to balloon outwards, eventually refilling to the standard proportion of her foot. She briefly smiled, before her foot flopped forwards bonelessly, bending unnaturally in half. "Now, you know I'm not a potions master, so the potion's going to take a while to regrow all the bones, so I want you to go put your shoes on so Dad doesn't notice anything's up when he gets home. Okay?"
Shi sniffed, reaching her hand upwards before hesitatingly putting it back down, looking down at the ground and mumbling, "Okay."
"Why did you do that?" Sable asked Shi, noting the weird behavior.
"Dad said I'm not allowed to suck my thumb anymore. That I'm too old for it."
"Well, he didn't say anything about sucking on mine, right?" Sable smiled, twisting her hand at the wrist and plucking it off, handing it to the girl as she helped her stand up on her new floppy feet.
Shi accepted the hand gratefully, squashing the hand into a thumbs-up and sticking the thumb in her mouth, managing to say, "Thanks Sable!" as she awkwardly shuffled out of the room.
Conveniently, Sinopia returned to the room just as Sable stood up and hid her missing hand in her coat pocket. She was dragging a tween-aged girl with a purple mohawk and a purple ninja costume behind her, saying, "Well. I couldn't find Sara. I think she squeezed her way into the vents again, but I did manage to find our phone thief. Now where is it!" She shook the girl who must have been Sangria.
"A ninja never gives up their secrets!" Sangria shouted, trying in vain to get purchase with Sinopia's wrist to twist herself free.
"I thought a ninja was also supposed to listen to their elders?" Sinopia shot back, "Which includes not stealing from them when they're in the middle of filming their audition tape!"
"Why are you filming an audition tape? Hoping to get on that stupid show that nobody watches?"
"It's none of your business what show we're auditioning for, and if you dare say anything to Dad, Sable will make sure you really are like a ninja and never seen again. You understand?" Sinopia said through gritted teeth, giving Sangria a look that would have caused even the most hardened cop to cower in fear.
"Alright! I threw it somewhere in here!" Sangria confessed, causing Sinopia to finally let her go, and causing Sangria to land hard on the floor.
"Now was that so hard?" Sangria scuttled away, as the brown girl from early returned in frame, clearly having put the wrong hand at the end of each arm.
"Which way is the thumb supposed to go on the left hand again?" she asked.
"Not now Sepia! Help Sable and I find the phone! Dad's gonna be home soon and we have to finish up the audition!"
After several minutes of searching, Sepia eventually managed to find the phone, and the troupe of three sisters did their best to recreate their shot from earlier in the room they were currently in. Sinopia walked through what they had shot thus far, "Okay... So we've done introductions... We've done why we want to be on... Okay, I think next is supposed to be why we should be chosen. I'll do you Sable and you can do me. And... Action!"
"So. Why should you choose us to compete? Well, Sable here is a freaking beast when it comes to performing magic! She literally can't get enough of it, even though Dad doesn't like us doing magic in the house. She figured out how to make a whole bunch of potions all on her own using only the stuff in our garden and around the house!"
Sable blushed, muttering, "Yeah... but there was a whole lot more mistakes than there were successes."
Sinopia immediately jumped in saying, "And persistent too! Once she's set her mind on something, she never gives up! Now Sable, what about me?" Sinopia looked expectantly at her smaller sister, causing her to blush even more.
"W-well... You know... Sin's never afraid to put herself out in front of people."
"Great! And what about my skills at magic!"
Sable blushed even harder. "W-well... Sin always put's one hundred percent into any magic she tries to do."
"Yep! I'm the best. Well, Joint-best. Maybe slightly higher than Sable. Anyways. What would we do if we won? Well, if I won, I would use the prize money to buy myself a house in the middle of nowhere and move all my sisters into it so they wouldn't have to worry about Dad, or school, or what they would want to do for the rest of their life."
Sable looked genuinely touched by her sister saying that, asking "Really Sin?"
"Yeah! And you would have to look after them all *ppt*" She poked Sable's forehead, sticking out her tongue as she did so, "while I would get to travel around the world doing cool magic tricks! What about you?"
Sable rubbed the spot where Sinopia had poked her with her remaining hand, saying, "If I won, I would want to help try and push magic curriculums to start being taught in all public schools so that people can learn how to do magic by learning from the mistakes made by people in the past, rather than making the same mistakes themselves."
"Uh... Sable you do know that the prize is only like a million dollars and getting to work with a magician, right? A million dollars doesn't go that far in lobbying."
Sable blushed again, parting the hair out of her face and saying, "Oh! But it's enough to buy a mansion in the middle of nowhere to fit-"
Suddenly, Sable's sentence was cut off as a voice could be heard from somewhere above the bickering girls shouting out, "Dad's home!" The two girls gave each other a fearful look, before booking it out of the room they were in. Sepia, the camera girl, didn't even bother taking the phone with her, choosing to drop it on the floor, the camera being blocked by the carpet.
The sound of a door opening could be heard, followed by a deep voice shouting, "Girls! I'm home!" The sound of shoes and coats being removed and the door being closed was followed by the sound of footsteps getting closer, until suddenly the camera was able to see again, its view showing that it was being raised off the ground. It eventually stopped, not giving any view of the man. The same sound of the deep voice shouted again, "Girls! What have I told you about using the emergency phone? It's supposed to only be used if there's an emergency!" before the video abruptly cut off.
