"What's up everyone!" The energetic brunette on camera said. She was wearing a baby blue T-shirt with pink writing saying, 'Magic is Magical' on it. The woman had tan skin, and her face had an unnatural glow radiating from it, indicating the usage of some mixture of make-up and camera filters.
The video jump-cut to the woman speaking from another angle (which was a common occurrence for practically every sentence that she spoke), continuing, "For you studio execs who have never heard of me before, or you're stumbling across the re-upload of this I'm putting on my YouTube channel, my name is Elise Rodriguez and I run the Everyday Magic channel. It's the only, completely magic-centric YouTube channel with over a million subs!"
"I started the channel a couple of years ago in order to share my thoughts and feelings on some of the biggest historical events in magic's history. Since then, I've managed to expand it outwards into a daily Vlog, where I cover events in the magic community, interviews with famous magicians and assistants, or really cover whatever magic-related thing I feel like talking about."
"Now I know what you're thinking:" the video jump cut to Elise leaning back in her chair, saying in a silly voice, "Just because you cover magic doesn't mean that you know how to be a good assistant."
She cut back to herself, sitting and speaking normal once again, "While I don't have much in ways of professional experience, for the past year now, my friend Cody and I," a picture of a man wearing glasses and holding a replica of the Masked Magician's Mask appeared in the upper right corner of the video, "have started a weekly segment where we walk people through some of the more common tricks used by magicians."
Some b-roll footage of the videos she was referring to now took over Cody's picture, such as Elise's head talking in Cody's hands, a shrunken Elise trapped underneath a bell jar, and Elise doing a full rotation while hovering in the air. "We try our best to really go in-depth on how the tricks works, such as which parts of the tricks come from the Assistant's magic and which are the Magician's, the best way to build up your magic reserves, alternative ways to achieve the same effect, and we'll typically go out on the street to get some genuine reactions to the tricks themselves."
The video cut back to Elise, sitting in her chair with an annoyed look on her face, saying "We were going to do a live tour to see how well the show would work in a more traditional setting, but then the whole world decided to fall apart right before our tour started up, so it's been pushed to next year."
"So, why should you select me as a contestant for next season? Well, I've produced a convenient and digestible five point list on why you should choose me.
I know how to do almost every trick: Any type of trick. Flattening. Stretching. Cutting. Bending. You name it, I've either done it, a variation on it, or have covered it at some point on my show and should be able to figure out how to do it.
I have a ton of connections in the magic community: Over the years on my channel, I've had the opportunity to interview almost every famous magician or assistant who came to prominence in recent years. I even got an interview with David Angel and Jill McMillan after the first season to talk about the difficulties faced by an assistant with almost no experience. So, I've got connections, which I know is a huge part of making it in this business.
I'm small and can fit in most boxes: I'm only 5'2". So I can fit in practically any stock magic prop. You'll save a fortune in not having to buy specialized props!
I'm cute and have a great personality: Need I say anymore?
I have a built-in audience: As I've already said before. My channel has over one million subscribers. I can't promise that all of the viewers will watch, but there's at least a non-zero percentage that would be interested and will watch the whole season if I make it through.
"Now I'm sure you're wondering, why I'm interested in competing in competing in this competition. Well. Obviously, I see it as a great opportunity to help grow my channel. When I did weekly recaps of the show last year, the channel gained almost two hundred thousand subscribers, and I've gotten almost daily requests to cover the second season if it ever comes out. If I actually got to compete on the show, I'd basically be set on cool content for the show for years.
Of course, I'm also interested in joining the show because I want to win! The whole reason I started the channel was because I've been interested in magic ever since I was a little kid, and being a magician's assistant would be like I finally lived up to all of my childhood goals. If I won, I'd probably either switch back to doing a weekly vlog talking about my experiences being an assistant, or give the channel to Cody, as he's just as interested in magic as I am, and I trust him to keep it running."
