Echo dropped her hand, she she did this to the clones, then they were just as bad as them. Plus, how could she ever disappoint Susan’s cute face. “Okay, lets change the password then.”
Pressing the ‘Change Password’ button, a new screen popped up, reading, ‘Please press new thumbprint to act as admin access’. Since Susan only had arms, but no hands, Echo placed her normal thumb. After that a second screen appeared reading, ‘Would you like this to be a universal change for all restoration pods?’ Echo pressed yes, successfully changing the lock.
“Thanks Echo! You’re the best!” Susan nearly made Echo fall to the ground as she kissed her on the lips.
“Oh… It was no big deal. If it wasn’t for you I probably wouldn’t have thought twice about destroying all the clones,” Echo blushed, a little frightened at the realization. “Now, let’s try and find that Re-Education Center.”
Echo and Susan were now exploring the facility blind. While they had easily memorized which specific tunnels they had to use in order to get to the computer room and the clone storage facility, they had absolutely no idea where the Re-Education Center actually was. Thankfully, they didn’t spend too long shambling through the tunnels, as they had to quickly duck into a side tunnel as they heard some of the Sapphire guards approaching. The Sapphire guards were holding yet another Sapphire between them who was struggling and screaming. “Please! No!” She shouted, hopping desperately on her one leg.
“Shut up you! We have orders to take you to the Re-Education Center, and the more you struggle, the more painful it’s going be.” One of the guards said, hitting the transformed Sapphire on the back of the head. This only made her screams worse, which force the guards to try and make her hop faster so that they wouldn’t have to bother listening to her cries anymore.
As much as it pained them, it was actually beneficial to Echo and Susan that the transformed Sapphire was screaming so loudly, as it made it much easier for the pair to follow the guards without noticing them. The guards traveled through several twists and turns, before finally entering into a large door. The girls waited behind a corner patiently for the guards to leave the room, which only took a matter of minutes, before walking up to the door themselves. A plain sign on the door read ‘Re-Education Center’.
Echo and Susan pushed the door open, surprised by what was inside. The most immediate thing that jumped out was the fact that there were no guards in the room. The next thing that jumped out were the modified reclining chairs that made up the rest of the room. The chairs were a rather dull brown color, most of them housing occupants who were strapped in with large metal cuffs. They were viewing rathe large monitors attached to the chair in such a way that the screen was only a foot of two away from the occupants face. To ensure that they subjects were watching the video, their eyes were being held open by Ludovico styled eye clamps, a little machine periodically dripping artificial tears to ensure that their retinas don’t burn away. From some of the chairs, the sound of muffled cries could be heard and the occasional sound of struggling against the metal cuffs, but there were probably equally as many who were thoroughly brainwashed, watching the screen contentedly. Examining the nearest prisoner (who fell in the latter category of viewers), they found that Sapphire clone had her mouth removed, which would explain why the prisoners who were crying were making muffled noises. The screen itself flashed between a variety of images, phrases, instructions, and other propaganda to condition the clones’ minds to follow the order of Eternity Cosmetics.
“Oh my God!” Susan said, covering her mouth with her stumps, “we have to do something!”
“Agreed,” Echo said, walking up to the chair, she tried fiddling with the restraints, getting only the slightest acknowledgement from the Sapphire in the chair. Eventually, Echo managed to find the button that opened the restraints. She helped the girl up, asking, “Are you okay.”
Sadly, the Sapphire didn’t give much of a response, just continued to stare blankly in to the void (although she did occasionally blink). “Oh, you poor thing,” Susan said, walking up to the girl, and cooing in her ear, “don’t worry, we’ll figure out a way to help you, I promise.”
The next couple minutes were a tedious practice of Susan and Echo helping the various prisoners out of their chairs, with various levels of gratitude, from blank stares to looks of gratitude to even a couple of hugs. Once they had freed everyone, Echo spoke up, saying, “Okay everyone! Listen up! Susan and I are going tottery and figure out a way to make sure these machines can’t be used anymore, so what we need from those of you who can actually help is to take those who can’t and get out of here. Does everyone understand?” The few lucid Sapphires nodded, helping the less lucid ones out of the room through the front door.
Once they were gone, Susan asked, “So… What’s the plan on actually stopping these machines?”
“No idea,” Echo answered honestly, going up to one machine and examining the screen, which was now just playing static since they had pressed the button freeing the release. She looked at the back of the screen, where two wires were plugged in, one being an HDMI cord, and another which she assumed was the power cord, she gave a tug on the power cord
Of course, this turned out to not be the smartest decision she’d ever done, as when she pulled out the cord, a tiny spark jumped out. Of course, since this park wasn’t necessarily up to code, the second the tiny spark landed on the brown polyester of the lounge chair, a tiny fire began. For those who know how fires work, that small fire very quickly became a large fire, engulfing the entire chair in flame, and soon spreading to more. Echo and Susan, not sure of what to do, quickly ran out of the room, doing their best to not get hurt by the fire on the way out.
As they exited the room, a fire alarm was blaring right across from the room. The two turned as a voice from down the hallway shouted, “There they are! Get them!” From the other end of the hallway, three buff Sapphire guards were hurtling straight for them. The pair, given little option, began to run away blindly through the hallway, their pursuers on their heels almost the entire time.
After several twists and turns, the girls ran into a large underground atrium, a wall shooting up behind them. Looking across from them, they spotted Lindsay and Heather and their original unharmed bodies. Sadly, they also spotted Sapphire, who upon hearing the door closing behind her, turned saying, “And there’s the other group. Wonderful! Now we can get this party started.”
Reaching across the table, she grabbed a remote and pressed the large red button on it. Above them, the ceiling of the room began to split open, revealing the calm night sky behind the dome above it. The group felt the floor beneath them begin to slide upwards, finally realizing that the room they had been in was a massive elevator this entire time.
“I hope you’ve enjoyed your stay! It’s probably going to be your last.” Sapphire cackled.
