“No! We’re not going to leave you!” Veronica said, finally helping Spencer in trying to help the Elderly Sapphire to stand up.
“Stop! Just leave me. You’re wasting your chance!” Sapphire said, tears now flowing down her face.
“She’s not going to get up! We’re just going to have to carry her,” Spencer said, shifting his grip (Veronica quickly matching it on her half of the body), and hoisting Sapphire up into their arms (a feat that was extremely difficult, since her mascot body was rather awkwardly shaped, but thankfully it was pretty light too, due to the fact that most of her body weighed the same as a costume rather than a person) they once again began running away from their pursuers.
Sadly, as much as Veronica and Spencer would have loved to say they were healthy enough to be able to run for fifteen minutes, and then continue doing so after adding around fifty to sixty pounds of awkward to carry weight, this was a task that their body could not handle, no matter how much better lung usage they might have gained from having two heads on their shared body. As they began to involuntarily slow down, Sapphire continued to beg them to drop her, but Veronica and Spencer were not having it. At this point either they were all making it out, or none of them were.
Turns out, it was going to be none of them, as one of the Sapphire guards got close enough to finally tackle the fleeing pair, sending them to the ground. The other guards quickly surrounding them. “You shouldn’t have came back for your friend,” One of the Sapphire body builders chuckled, her voice surprisingly mannish sounding.
“Yeah, the boss just ordered us to chase you after you, but didn’t give us any instructions for if we actually caught you,” another Sapphire guard said, her voice was equally as mannish, but had minor differences, probably caused by the fact that each Sapphire guard had a different muscular male body (and neck) underneath their head.
“So… You’re just going to let us go?” Spencer questioned from his position on the ground, semi-sarcastically but mostly sincerely in the hopes that the line might actually work.
“No,”the first Sapphire guard said, a cheshire grin spreading across her face, “I’m sure we can think up something that would make him proud.”
The Sapphire guards marched the pair through the park, forcing the Elderly Sapphire to hop on her one leg (“If you don’t march, we’ll just make it hurt more and force you to march anyway”). At first Veronica and Spencer thought they were just randomly marching them through the park, as the path they lead the three through the park often crossed back on itself. It was only after they had crossed the same streetlamp three times that Veronica finally spotted the security cameras. Every area they had marched through had several security cameras in a variety of angles, and whenever they crossed in front of them was when the Sapphire guards would perk up, hamming it up from the camera, occasionally pointing at the three. ‘Oh my God. They’re trying to show off that they caught us,” Veronica realized.
Eventually, after parading them around a bit longer, the Sapphire guards eventually led the group to the place where they had first encountered the elderly Sapphire: The courtyard that had Chronos’ face plastered on the ground. However, unlike their first time through the area, there was a pretty significant difference in that there was now a large guillotine set up in the very center.
The buff Sapphire guards holding on to Spencer and Veronica forced them towards the device, the stocks specifically changed to allow a two head person to fit into them. Another buff Sapphire walked over, wearing an executioner hood. This was about the point that a regular looking Sapphire in her standard red outfit walked out of a nearby building. She carried a microphone, and as if she were announcing to a crowd of onlookers (rather than a crowd of her clones) said, “Ladies and… well Ladies there’s really only ladies here. We gather here today to punish a couple of park rule breakers who decided it would be better to run away than just go through the re-education process. As we all know, the punishment for that is DEATH!” The crowd of buff Sapphires cheered, while Veronica and Spencer gulped. “Now then, any last words?” Sapphire forced the microphone towards the two awkwardly close.
“Spencer, I just want you to know that I love you,” Veronica said.
“I love you too Veronica!” Spencer said.
“Ah. How romantic! Pull the rope!” Sapphire said, the executioner all too willing to follow orders. As the blade careened towards the duo’s heads, they closed their eyes, accepting their fate.
It was when the couple realized that they could still hear the cheers of the crowd that they realized they were still very much alive, despite the fact that they couldn’t feel their body. They opened their eyes, realizing that their heads were being held aloft by the announcer Sapphire, who was chuckling, saying, “Did you really think we were going to kill you? Please. We just disconnected you from your body to make sure that you couldn’t run around anymore.”
“So wait-“
“Do we know about that whole plan of yours to distract us? Of course, in fact,” Sapphire paused, as an alarm began to blare over the loudspeaker, “Case in point. A little bit of persuasion to make your friends get their parts of your dumb plan over faster. Now, we can just sit here and wait for them to show up.” The announcer Sapphire accentuated her point by sitting down, awkwardly petting their two heads in her lap.
“Miss? What do you want us to do about the turncoat?” One of the buff Sapphire said, hoisting Mascot Sapphire singlehandedly, further accentuated how broken she looked.
“Oh, she’s practically on Death’s Row. Let her go so she can say her goodbyes.”
The buff Sapphire shrugged, dropping mascot Sapphire to the ground, who began to use what little strength she had left to crawl away from the army of buff Sapphires.
