Climbing the flight of stairs to the second floor, Lindsay and Susan found themselves in what any kid would recognize as a dream come true. Rows upon rows of racks were decorated with a variety of toys in all shapes and sizes. The walls depicted pictures of the toys that were most popular at the time, while the floors had a cool pattern that made it look like one was standing on top of giant puzzle pieces.
“Now, I’ve heard there’s a great market out there for weird and wacky toys, so we’re going to have to comb the aisles to try and find the most bang for our buck. Now, I've compiled a list of out-of-print toys that they may have copies of,” Lindsay handed Susan a long list with extremely small print, “Come find me the moment that you find any of the things on this list,” and with that, she walked into the nearest aisle of toys on her own hunt for wealth.
She didn’t even wait to hear Susan say, “But what about the present for my Mom?”
Susan’s mom was a very kind lady. She had raised Susan and her siblings more or less completely by herself after her father had been shot when she was only three years old. She didn’t have memories of him, but from what she heard of him, he was a great man in the wrong place at the wrong time. Anyways, as the youngest of her family, now that she was finally going through college, her mom now could finally begin to relax and let her kids start taking care of her. After Susan had told her that she and some friends had scored the exclusive tickets to the parks early opening, she had requested a single thing: a snow globe, as it was something that her husband would pick up for her on every vacation.
Lindsay walked through the aisles like a woman on a mission, looking at objects on the shelves for only a brief moment before moving on to the next. She would have kept on walking too, but she noticed an out-of-place Chronos plushie on the floor. She picked it up examining Eternipark's mascot up close.
His body/head was very reminiscent of your standard pocket watch, semi-cylindrical with a button on top. Connected to his body were cartoonish legs and arms that would not have looked out of place in a Mickey Mouse Cartoon, as he wore ridiculously large shoes and gloves as well. Lindsay gave the toy a little squeeze, and was surprised when a highly processed voice rang through a speaker concealed within in it, “Come play with us Lindsay.” She hardly had time to react as something hit her over the head, rendering her unconscious.
Susan began finding her own way through the toy aisles marveling at some of the true oddities on display. Half of these toys seemed out of place for this theme park, and the other half seemed like what they promised to do seemed downright impossible.
Take for instance, one of the boxes read ‘Operation: friends edition’ which depicted a real person with metal indents in them with actual organs or bones ready for the plucking with the other kids trying to grab them with marge metal tweezers. Or on another rack, a little ray gun that said freeze ray, that when Susan pointed it at another toy and pulled the trigger, actually sent out a blue laser that caused the toy and the surrounding shelving unit to be covered in a thick layer of frost (she quickly put the toy down and walked away after that one.
Eventually, she came across a toy that she was extremely familiar with, it was a three dimensional pin art board. She remembered all the time as a kid going into the store and making cool little designs, or pressing her hand against the pins and seeing the imprint of it on the other side.
Picking it up off the shelf, Susan went to push her right hand against the pins, but found herself nearly falling over as her hand made contact, continuing through as the board went all the way up to her elbow before she stopped pushing. Letting go of the imprint board in shock, it clattered to the floor, leaving her with a stump of an arm that ended at cleanly at the elbow, as though she never even had the rest of the arm.
Susan nearly passed out from the shock. Despite all the fantastical stuff she had seem up to this point, something like this was simply not possible in the real world. She reached down with her remaining, in-tact arm, picking up the board and noticing that the side protected by glass now had an imprint of her entire arm.
Praying that she could reverse the process, Susan placed the pin side of the impression board against the stump of her right arm and began pulling away. She sighed with relief as her arm began to emerge from the board once more, leaving her in a single piece again.
Now that she knew it was reversible, Susan was much more willing to play with her new toy. She grabbed a second impression board, sat on the ground, and absorbed each of her legs up to the knee. She then swapped the boards, and was pleasantly surprised when her legs came out so that the wrong foot was on the wrong leg. She tried her best to stand up and walk around like this, but found it much too difficult if she wasn’t holding on to something.
After fixing her legs, she placed the board against her face, leaving the impression of her face on the board as she pulled it off, leaving her faceless. She fumbled around in her pockets, managing to find her phone, and tried her best to take a couple of pictures with her and the impression board (although without eyes to see, it was really a shot in the dark whether they were any good). Returning her face to herself, she examined the pictures, happy with how they turned out, except for the figure that was looming behind her in the photos…
Susan did not have enough time to turn around before being knocked out as well.
Susan awoke to the sounds of Lindsay’s screams for help. She tried her best to move around, but found it rather difficult, as thin wire held her in place Gulliver’s Travels style. She was clearly being carried on a stretcher of some sort through the toy aisles, what appeared to be little figures staring down at her angrily along the way.
Eventually, the movement stopped, and Susan’s body was forced upright. In the center of the room, a large central light had been created setting up several of the revolving party lights. Several stuffed Chronos dolls wearing war paint stared at her, anger in their eyes. There was a slight chattering (and again, Lindsay’s screaming) but all of that died down as a one-eyed teddy bear came out, a tribal headdress resting upon it’s head.
“My fellow toys! As you already know, we have captured the foul-hearted one who dared to tread our floor without our permission, but her companion had evaded us for a short time. However, that is no more! For we have brought forth the accomplice to share in the punishment of her leader!” The toys cheered, as Susan’s stretcher was turned around, revealing what had happened to Lindsay.
How had the toys punished Lindsay?
1.) Turned her into a clock-work/wind-up girl.
2.) Turned her into a stuffed animal.
3.) Turned her into a Lindsay-in-the-box.
