The ghost gently lowered Heather's chair, which was no easy feat seeing as how Heather was doing her best to struggle and was screaming her lungs out. Trying to get her attention away from struggling, the ghost moaned something. Realizing that she couldn't understand anything that he was saying, the ghost scraped some dark blue goo off the roof of his mouth and stuck his finger in her ear. Fearing that the ghost was trying to steal her ears from her, Heather screamed even louder, but slowly began to realize that what had been previously moans were becoming normal words. "Miss, please stop shouting," the ghost said, now talking completely in English, "You're just going to hurt your voice."
"How are you talking?"
"Oh, we discovered long ago that by putting a bit of the goo in your ears, you can understand us," the ghost said, glad that Heather had stopped screaming.
"I've got the other one," the second burly ghost said, gently lowering Lindsey to the floor, who was similarly screaming.
"Lindsey! Calm down!" Heather shouted.
"B-but the others-"
"I know! But it isn't going to do us much good if we're both freaking out about it!"
This quieted Lindsey right up. "Okay, well miss, we're going to leave you in here for a couple of couple of hours, but there's no need to worry because we'll make sure nothing bad happens to you between now and then," the first ghost address Heather, who nodded to show that she understood. The two guards then left the cell, walking down the hallway and out of site.
"So... How are we going to get out of this?" Lindsey asked after a couple of minutes of silence.
"Well," Heather said, doing her best to scoot her chair closer to Lindsey's free arm, "I'm going to try and untie your arm, and then you can untie mine, and we'll figure it out from there."
As Heather continued to try and finagle Lindsey's sole strap, Lindsey asked a question Heather never expected to hear from her, "So... whatever happened between us?"
"W-what do you mean?" Heather asked.
"You know what I mean," Lindsey said curtly, "how we stopped handing out after high school, despite going to the same college."
"Well... you know... people change in college and-"
"That's bullshit and you know it. What's really up? Is it because I started dating Steve?"
"Not really-"
"Is it because I always ask you to take some of my shifts?"
"No. It's just-"
"Then what is it? Spit it out!"
"It's because you've become kind of a bitch!"
The silence in the room was truly deafening. Thankfully, it was cut off by the sound of the strap finally coming free and releasing Lindsey's arm. "A bitch?" Lindsey asked.
"Yeah. It's like, I thought I knew you in high school, and then all of a sudden when we get into college, you suddenly started acting all different, and are being super mean to everyone, when we're all trying to be nice back to you, and I just don't understand!" Heather was practically in tears at this point, "And I just want things to go back to normal!"
Heather was openly sobbing at this point, but she was surprised to be comforted by Lindsey's arm rubbing away some of the tears. "Hey. Don't cry."
Lindsey did her best to untie Heather's arms, and eventually they were both working on untying their legs. "You know, I know that I've kind of been a bitch..." Lindsey said, sounding tired. Heather said nothing as her friend continued, "It's just that... College is kind of hard... and things aren't going as great as I hoped..." Heather had finished untying her legs, and at this point was watching Lindsey try her best to untie her own. "I guess... I just have a lot of issues I need to get off my chest... you know, somebody to talk it out with..."
"Lindsey, do you need some help?"
Lindsey looked up from her legs, mascara tears running down her face, "Yeah."
What happens next?
1) The two begin looking for the others
2) The two skim the book for answers
3) Heather tells Lindsey to try and escape, while she goes to find the others
