The newest room that Scarlett brought the group to was, yet again, completely different to anything the group had come across thus far. The room had almost an entirely modern style to it. Scattered around the room were various lay-down couches that all faced towards a small stage with a piano. On the other side of the room was a wall completely filled with various bottles of differing sizes and liquids. “This is the lounge. A relatively new addition to the house, it was designed by Eric Mercurin after a visit to a well reputed lounge in Las Vegas. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a very important phone call I have to make, so…” Scarlett walked back towards the door, “I’m going to lock the door this time. If you have any emergency in the next couple of minutes, please just try and deal with it in here. The entertainment will be on in a couple of minutes.” The sound of the door locking could be heard as Scarlett shut the door.
“You! … Okay?!” Veronica gasped, placing her arm around Spencer, who had quickly sat down on one of the nearby couches.
“Yeah…” Spencer said, looking forlornly at his empty sleeves, the sound of tears apparent in his voice, “It’s just, you never really know how important something is to you until you lose it, huh?”
“*pssh* At least you have legs,” Echo said from her position in Susan’s arms.
Veronica turned slightly, flipping the bird at her, before turning back towards Spencer and saying, “Don’t worry! … It’ll be fine!”
Susan placed Echo down onto one of the lounge chairs farther away from Spencer and Veronica. “You know, you didn’t have to say that. They weren’t mean when you lost your legs,” Susan scolded her.
“Yeah, I guess … It’s just that, it’s not like they’re the only ones with problems here.”
“Well yeah, we all kind of have issues here.”
The two sat in awkwardness for a couple of moments, before Echo spoke again, asking, “Hey? So you’re a virgin?”
Susan’s cheeks suddenly blushed, “Y-yeah.”
“Why did you even lie about it?”
“Well, in high school all of my friends were bragging about how they had summer flings with a bunch of guys. So I made up Jeffrey so I could join in on the conversation and not be left behind…”
“But, you’ve introduced us to Jeffrey before.”
“Yeah, that was a friend of mine from my old elementary school, he did me a huge favor.”
After a bit of a pause in the conversation, Echo spoke up again, “Well that’s a shame, because you’re like one of the cutest girls I know…”
“Aww! Thanks Echo!” Susan said, awkwardly hugging her abbreviated friend.
“Ha ha, no problem…” Echo said, hoping desperately that Susan wouldn’t notice her raging hard-on as Susan held her in her arms.
“Hey,” Heather said, turning towards Lindsey as they sat on one of the last few available Lounge seats, “What you did in there… that was pretty cool.”
“Thanks? Although I don’t know how much thanks you should be giving me, seeing as how I probably wouldn’t have even read that book on why plants are so important to the Mercurins. Besides you read more of the books in that pile than I did.”
“Yeah, but I probably wouldn’t have thought to speak up against all those ghosts and literally bargain for the life of our friend,” Heather said, slightly embarrassed to admit one of her weaknesses to someone who hated her.
“Well, look at all the good I did. I saved Susan, but now Spencer’s practically as screwed as Echo,” Lindsey said, looking sadly towards where Spencer and Veronica were sitting.
“Hey … don’t chew yourself out. At least their both here right now, safe with us.”
“I guess…”
The quiet conversations in the room were brought to a close as the lights around the room dimmed. A spotlight shined down from the ceiling onto the piano on the stage. From the side of the stage entered a ghost with ridiculous hair and a leisure suit. Taking a bow, he began to play a romantic melody. Despite not being able to understand any of the lyrics of the song, it was unmistakeable that it was causing feelings within the audience.
That feeling, of course, was of drowsiness. The stress of the haunted house had the group almost constantly on edge since the start of their tour, so it was only natural that when finally allowed the chance to relax, their bodies would interpret this as a time to finally fall asleep.
The ghost continued to play on as the group fell into a deep sleep…
