On the brown table now stood what could best be described as a metal monstrosity. A mass of
wires and metal plates that seemed to barely be held together rested upon four metal beams that looked like they would give out at any moment. Distributed across the body of the device at seemingly random intervals were what looked like metal holes in which things could be placed.
“This right here is one of Charles’s favorite inventions, The game machine!” Scarlett said, flourishing her arms as if it were something impressive. After getting some confused looks, Scarlett explained, “The late professor wasn’t that good with names. Now, let’s get this game started!”
As if on cue, a strange figure emerged from the closet in the back of the room, got exploding out the door. He seemed to give off the same cyan glow of Drake Mercurin, however rather than wearing a suit he was decked out in a shining lab coat and slacks. His hair was pure wight and seemed to want to go anywhere but down. As he passed by Spencer, a chill went up his back. The apparition walked confidently towards the device on the table.
“Okay Charles, why don’t you get that hunk of junk running?” Scarlett said, pointing towards the device.
“Uuunghh,” the spirit groaned, a fly escaping from his wretched mouth. He approached the device, and unceremoniously grabbed at the sides of his head. Only Veronica, who suspected what was about to happen, turned away as the spirit ripped his head off his body, a bit of spine sticking out of the base of his head. Most of the group either covered their mouth to prevent a sudden bit of throw up or gasped in shock, while Lindsey just had a bemused look upon her face. Both the top and bottom of his split neck began to spill out the same dark blue liquid that came out of Drake’s hands in the Music Room.
Stepping up onto one of the chairs surrounding the contraption, Charles placed his head into a hole on the back of the machine. Once his head was completely inside, the top of the hole sealed off, leaving a completely sealed metal plate where the hole had previously been. After a moment and large amounts of bleeps and bloops, the metal wires suddenly began to move, as they appeared to fill with a dark blue liquid, most likely the same liquid from the ghost’s head.
Eventually, the machine settled down, returning to a position that was essentially the same as it had looked before the ghost had even attached its head. The body of the ghost then bowed, staggering with its hands forward back towards the closet from whence he came. The group grew fearful of the strange device, however Lindsey, in her ignorant confidence, approached the machine. “So Scarlett? What does this device do?”
“Why don’t you stick your arm in it and find out?” Scarlett responded in kind, a knowing look upon her face.
“*Hmph* Why not?” Lindsey said (much to the horror of everyone else), as she stuck her entire arm up to her shoulder into a hole on the front of the device. Suddenly, the hole began to seal off, becoming skintight against her arm. “Hey! What’s the big idea? I can’t get my arm out!” Despite her best effort at pulling, her arm was thoroughly stuck in the machine.
“Of course not silly,” A timer suddenly popped out from the side of the device, listing ‘5:00’ and beginning to count down, “Because the name of this game is ‘use it or lose it!’” The group stepped even further back as the device continued to count down, “You see, everyone has to place their appropriate body part into the correct hole, or everyone who has something in the device will lose it!”
“Well wait,” Spencer said, “what happens if we decide not to play.”
“Well firstly, I’d be very upset with y’all. And secondly, your friend here will probably lose that arm.”
“I’m not really seeing a downside here…”
“If you don’t help me, I’ll fucking rip your arm off!” Lindsey said, suddenly as serious towards this situation as the rest of the group.
“What’s wrong Lindsey? I thought this was all fake,” Heather rubbed in.
“Yeah, well clearly I don’t think that now! Now help me!” Lindsey shrieked, true fear in her voice, by this point the timer had counted down to four minutes.
“C’mon guys, she may be a bitch, but we don’t have to stoop to her level, Echo said, whom had gotten down from her perch on Susan’s back and had managed to climb up onto the table. She rested her stump under the device, and felt around the inside of the hole on the bottom, realizing what was to go in, she promptly inserted her head. After pondering what to do for another minute, the rest of the group began inserting limbs into their proper orifices (even Scarlett joined in), until Heather was the only one left.
“C’mon Heather, don’t leave us hanging,” Veronica said, partially joking as she was doing a handstand in order to insert her leg into one of the higher holes.
“Fine, but if we lose any parts, I’ll never forgive her.” Heather stepped up onto the table, placing her hand into the only remaining hole.
Instantly, the group felt themselves be ejected from the device, landing on the floor around the table uncomfortably. As the group picked themselves up, Lindsey, being confidence once more, walked over to Scarlett (Who had not fallen down), “Ha! We beat your stupid game, so let’s move this stupid tour on.”
“Oh no, Honey. You must surely be mistaken. That was only the first game…” Scarlett then walked over to the device, pressing an unseen button on the device, causing it to smoke slightly and a metal chair to pop out invitingly.
“So, Who wants to be in the hot seat?”
Who’s getting in the chair?
1.) Susan
2.) Lindsey
3.) Veronica
