“Fifteen minutes to curtains up!”
Butterflies were going wild in my stomach. Opening night. The night we'd been working towards for months.
My nerves weren’t helped by the air of paranoia permeating the theatre crew. We weren’t the only theatre having our opening night tonight. There was another theatre right across the street launching their own production.
Our play ‘Across the Seven Seas’ was an epic tale spanning three generations of two families, centred around a voyage between continents in the late 18th century. Their play ‘Jolly Roger’ was a lighter oftentimes-comedic story about two warring bands of pirates. Both had multiple musical numbers and high production value with extravagant dynamic sets.
By sheer coincidence both had a strong nautical theme, leading to a natural competition. What began as a friendly rivalry between crews however had evolved over the months into underhanded conflict. Initially it was just people sneaking into the opposite theatre to spy on plans and progress, pilfering ideas. As I understood it, both shows involved a large galleon construction, moving waves, and a storm scene. Later the competition escalated into subterfuge and sabotage, with supplies, scripts and fixtures being broken, stolen and hidden.
I did my best to stay away from all of it. This was easily the most high-profile role I’d ever landed, so I had enough to be focusing on. I was one of the lead roles: the love interest and later on the wife of the protagonist.
My first stage entrance didn’t happen until partway through Act 1, so I hung back in the dressing rooms while most of the crew and cast moved backstage. I enjoyed this period of quiet before the action. It allowed me to perform my usual calming pre-show ritual.
I sat facing a vanity mirror, doing vocal exercises, rehearsing my big Act 2 monologue, and humming parts of my solo song. I was sitting in my first costume, probably my favourite one: an elegant blue dress with a tight bodice helping my boobs to ‘pop’, and a large voluminous bottom half.
I was so focused that I didn’t hear the three figures, not until I saw them in the mirror, making me startle. They were all wearing a bright red jacket, white breeches and black tricorne hat. The standard uniform of our background extras from Act 2. Why were they wearing those outfits already? And why were they back here?
I turned towards them in confusion. They just stared back like deer in headlights. Wait... one of the three was a girl. We didn’t have any girls as uniformed extras. In fact, I didn’t recognise the two guys either.
“Who are you? What are...?”
“Quick grab her!”
“Eh? EEEK! Mmmmh!”
The trio leapt upon me, grabbing my arms and spreading a hand over my mouth.
“Mmmmhhm!”
“I told you these disguises wouldn’t work!”
“They did work! They got us this far in without anyone stopping us didn’t they?”
“What now? We’re not going to be able to break their lighting rig now. She’ll alert everyone.”
“Hey she’s one of the speaking roles. I recognise her face from the poster.”
“Can we find a closet to stash her in or something?”
The girl stood back and surveyed the room.
“Hmm. I have a better idea. You two keep her subdued for a bit. Let me grab a few things...”
“Be quick! Someone could come in at any moment.”
“Mmmmph?”
The girl hurried around the room, scooping up loose ropes and rags, leftover items of the set design of our ship.
“Sorry diva, but it’s time for a costume change. You two, wanna get to work on that dress?”
The two men holding my arms still and handgagging me sighed. They started tearing and ripping my beautiful painstakingly-tailored costume from my body.
“Mmmmphhh!”
My underclothes were not so old-fashioned. I struggled against my captors’ grips in cute white bra and panties. I’d actually argued against the inclusion a scene in the script where I’d be grabbed as a damsel-in-distress, and somehow this still happened anyway!
The girl approached with her findings, but not before grabbing one final much larger item. I wriggled in panic.
The sky was dark, starless from the light pollution of a buzzing brightly-light city. A window slid up. Two figures stepped outside into the cool evening air. Their feet dropped onto the metal walkway of the fire escape on the outside of the building.
They turned back towards the window as a large, person-sized, worm-shaped object was fed through. The girl of the trio followed after it, closing the window behind her while one of her companions slung the package over his shoulder.
“You wrapped that up pretty tightly. Are you sure she can breathe in there?”
“Okay okay let me see...”
She unfolded part of the white covering at one end of the object.
My head poked out. Multiple strips of cloth covered my eyes and my mouth. My cheeks bulged obscenely, indicating the presence of some very densely packed-in stuffing inside my mouth. They really wanted to make sure I was quiet. The background noise of traffic nearby further helped to mask my desperate heavily-muffled moaning for help.
“Yeah she’s fine.”
She unknotted the cleave gag briefly and drew it closed again nice and tight, making it pull deeper into my mouth. She rearranged the covering over my head again, taking a moment to ensure it was tucked in properly to completely cover my head and not slip loose.
The large material cocooning my body was a spare ship sail for our galleon set. Beneath it I was squirming against a multitude of ropes, the same ones we used as the ship’s rigging.
I couldn’t see where we were going, but as I was jostled about on my captor’s shoulder, I could take a guess. We descended the fire escape, crossed the street, and entered the rival theatre.
“Laaaand ho!”
“Yes I can see the land, but what did you just call me?”
The audience rippled with laughter. They marvelled at the impressive set dominated by the port half of the deck of a pirate ship, complete with cannons, barrels, a mast, sails, netting, with a dozen actors dressed up in fancy pirate outfits throughout it. They had just finished singing their big opening number.
As the pirate captain and his female second-in-command bantered, she casually drifted away from her usual stage mark. She stopped mid-speech beside the ship mast which had a peculiar white cloth draped around the bottom half.
“Indeed we are the most fearsome pirates to ever roam these seas. We have conquered many a foe who dared challenge us. For instance...”
She grabbed the sheet and whipped it away. The audience gasped with utter astonishment.
I was tied very tightly to the tall wooden mast. Hemp ropes bound my hands together behind it and my feet together against its base. The girl on stage beside me with a gloating grin had earlier found a large rubber ball, wrapped it within a thin white cloth, and tied it into my mouth like a ballgag.
My outfit was recognisable as a pirate, only barely so since there was so little substance to it. Black boots, tiny red and white striped boy-shorts, a white ruffled top hastily cut to barely cover only my breasts and shoulders, and a fancy skull-and-crossbones emblemed hat.
“... we have defeated and captured the dread pirate Blondebeard!”
The crowd exploded into delighted laughter.
“The one from yonder sea!”
The girl pointed towards the back of the theatre, in the direction of where my theatre across the street would be found. There was a slight murmur of understanding in the audience. Some had probably recognised my face from posters and picked up on the girl’s meaning.
One actor piped up from across the stage.
“I’d sure like to pillage and plunder her, if you know what I mean.”
Another actor standing nearby grabbed my waist and half-twisted me around, making my butt stick out.
“Now that's what I call a pirate's booty!”
SPANK!
The teasing ad-libs received raucous bouts of laughter. I squirmed desperately, my half-naked body writhing about on stage in a role that I never in a million years would have expected or wanted.
The cast returned to their scripted lines and placements. Though as they carried on with the show, they threw out a few more improvised mocking jabs at my expense, including a few wayward strokes and spanks as they passed me.
Eventually the lights dimmed and the curtains went down as the first scene ended, to thunderous applause. I could hear people shuffling about in the darkness around me, preparing the stage for the next scene. My tormenting captor stepped over beside me.
“Having fun in your big debut? I believe they’re preparing a cage backstage to stuff you into for the second act. Oh and check this out.”
Her phone lit up the darkness as she showed me a video. It was a phone recording of the front of my theatre. A crowd was pouring out? It shouldn't have ended yet.
“Guess there was a lot of disappointment because of one of the leads not showing up and the story becoming a total mess. What a pity. Our show’s going great!”
“MMMMMPH!”
She kissed my cheek, retightened my huge gag, and smacked my ass as she wandered off. The crew scurried off, the cast took their places, and the curtain rose. The crowd cheered and whooped as they saw that their favourite character Blondebeard was sticking around. I was never going to live this role down.
