“Movie niiiiiiight! Woo!”
Macy leapt onto the couch I was sitting on, causing me momentarily bounce up from it.
“Easy sis! You almost made me spill the popcorn.”
She settled in beside me, pulling the blanket over her knees. Movie night was a tradition we’d been doing for years, ever since we were kids. The tradition had waned as we transitioned into young adulthood, discovering parties, alcohol and boys. But lately we’d been trying to set aside the occasional night just for us sisters, to keep the ritual going.
We were both dressed down in cotton pyjamas, hers red with clouds on them, mine pink with hearts. I never even wore pyjamas in bed anymore, just sleeping in underwear. As a result my current pair had gotten far too small for me, squeezing closely against my body everywhere, especially my butt and bust. It sufficed for movie night though.
“So what are you in the mood for Nina? Since it’s almost Halloween, I was thinking we should check out...”
Macy scrolled down a few rows on the streaming service’s menu, highlighting one movie in particular. My chest seized as the thumbnail expanded. The screen was filled by a horrific-looking wide-eyed ghoul with scraggly hair and sallow skin leaning out from behind a doorframe, staring straight at the camera. I instantly swivelled my head away.
“Aaghh! Change it change it!”
“Seriously? Just from that? But ‘Ghost Lights’ is supposed to be really good...”
“Macy you know I can’t stand horror movies! Why would you suggest that?”
She pouted.
“Come on, ‘tis the season. I didn’t expect you to still be that bad about them.”
“Well I am! I sat through a haunted house movie last year with friends and I could barely sleep for a week afterwards. I kept jumping at every tiny thing, even during the day. Please Macy, don’t even select it again. That face seriously gives me the creeps.”
Macy slumped back and switched the selection.
“Fine fine. No scary movies for the big baby. What do you want to watch then?”
“Is it gone?”
“Yes it’s gone!”
I peeked back at the screen through my fingers, sighing with relief on seeing the creepy image was indeed gone.
“Sorry. I just really can’t stand them.”
“It’s alright. We’ll find something else.”
Macy scrolled through more options. She paused briefly on a whodunnit murder mystery, the new sequel to a popular movie from a few years ago.
“I was actually really hoping to watch this one ‘Midnight Rambler’, but I remember you saying you’d already seen it, so we can keep looking...”
“You did? I really liked it. I'd actually be more than happy to watch it again.”
“Are you sure? I don’t know anything about it except that it’s good, so you promise not to spoil anything?”
“Promise! I’ll be good as gold~”
“Well alright then. We have our pick."
I switched off the table lamp as Macy started the movie. The only light remaining was the television screen. We nestled in under the comfortable blanked together.
The opening sequence played, a disjointed half-lit scene of a wealthy magnate being killed off by a figure shrouded in darkness. The murder victim seemed to recognise his killer, but the audience never got a good look.
“Is the killer limping? Ooh how interesting.”
“Nina shush! Stop pointing out things when you know the answer already.”
A few minutes later, the main characters were being introduced in a montage.
“She’s so pretty isn’t she? Ooh I like this guy, the bodybuilder. Even though he ends up getti-... I mean uh...”
“.... Seriously Nina?”
“I didn’t say anything!”
“You kind of did. Just... nevermind.”
The movie continued. Another famous actor appeared onscreen, making it Macy's turn to point in excitement.
“Ooh he’s the one from the soap opera I loved. He’s a real hunk~”
“Nice. Don’t get too attached to him thou--”
Macy glared at me as I sat silently, realising I’d done it again.
“That’s it...”
She paused the movie and stormed out of the room.
“Macyyyyy! Come on I didn’t mean it. I won’t say anything else.”
She returned with a roll of thick grey tape.
“Oh I know you won’t.”
“Huh? Are you seriously? Look I’ll jus-hmmph!!”
Macy clambered on top of me, forcing me to stay still long enough to plaster the strip of tape across my mouth. Despite me being older, she was much more athletic than me and could overpower me fairly easily.
I tried to push her off while reaching for the gag, so she grabbed my arms, pulling them down together against my stomach. She wound the tape around my wrists a few times then sat off me.
“Since you can’t seem to keep your mouth shut, this is the only way I’m going to enjoy the movie.”
“Mmmph!”
I reached for my mouth again, but she just grabbed my taped-together arms and held them down. I was really annoyed now. This was a huge overreaction to a slip of the tongue or two. I wasn't going to let this go unanswered. So I waited patiently.
Ten minutes passed and Macy became engrossed in the movie again. Three characters were in the middle of a heated mistrustful argument. Macy had relinquished her hold on me and settled back on her side of the couch. I slowly reached up from under the blanket, reached my mouth and...
rrrrip!
“They‘re going to arrest the limo driver for the murder but it was actually the co-MMH!”
“Nina for real? Fine then. You asked for this.”
She quickly applied several fresh strips of tape over my mouth then left the room again, this time towards the kitchen. I got to work clawing at the gag. I’d half removed it when she returned dragging a kitchen chair behind her.
“Mmmh? MMPH!”
Over the next minute I was dragged off the couch and into the chair, followed by more tape coming out. My pyjama bottoms had slid down leaving my panties exposed, and half of the pyjama top’s buttons had come undone.
Soon my arms were bound behind me instead of in front, taped to each other and to the slats of the chair’s back. My legs were fastened securely against each chair leg at the front. Macy used up the full roll of tape, but had a second one ready to continue restraining me.
I was utterly enraged, shaking against the chair and tape bindings. This was not okay! How could she do this to her own sister? She pinched the edge of the tape gag and pulled it off.
“Ahh. The killer is the-mmphhh!!”
Macy expected that, and had a countermeasure ready to prevent to my continued spoiler attempts. Her other hand forced a large white object into my mouth. It had soft moist texture and awful salty taste, like she’d dipped it in something. She lifted a second white object and I realised what they both were.
I squirmed in panic. Dirty socks! Anything else in the house would have been better. Macy’s feet always stank to high heaven! I teased her about it constantly, which in retrospect was a bad idea since now it was being used against me.
She wedged the second sock between my lips, cramming it and the first sock back as hard as she could. Their soaked-up fluid squelched onto my tongue, the nasty flavour flooding my taste buds. This was absolutely disgusting and humiliating!
“Mmmgghghh!!”
I rocked about in the chair furiously, trying madly to spit them out. She held my head still and poked them all the way in. The combined volume was far too much, making my jaw strain. I didn’t want to bite down too hard, as I knew that would only wring out even more of the foul absorbed moisture.
While she handgagged me, keeping the barely-fitting socks in place, she took the tape roll and pressed the end to my mouth.
“Mmmmhhhh!!!”
She passed it all the way around my head, fully covering my lips and the white fabric between them, continuing until the entire remainder of the roll was used up. The socks were completely sealed under a very thick multi-layered tape gag.
“This is karma Nina. For trying to ruin the movie for me, you can spend the rest of it sucking on my dirty gym socks from my workout this afternoon. Unlucky for you that we picked a 3-hour movie. Enjoy the taste of my sweaty feet~”
“MMMMPGHHHPHH!”
Macy pushed the chair back into a space between the side of the couch and the wall. Then she pushed the couch over from the other side, so that the chair was wedged stuck between the couch and the wall.
She unpaused the movie, turning the volume up very loud to drown out my gagged shouting. I continued shouting anyway to annoy Macy as much as I could. Five minutes passed without her so much as looking over at me. I gave up my protest after accidentally swallowing a big slurp of the sock juice, stewing in engraged silence.
With little else to do, I watched the movie in silence. Macy happily threw out casual observations and theories of who the murderer might be, with no fear of me accidentally spoiling anything with a response.
Hours of discomfort later, the climax of the movie was at last reached. The protagonist was monologuing about the key missing clue, the attempted misdirection, jealousy, seduction, the fatal mistake the villain made, culminating in a dramatic revelation of the killer’s true identity.
There. The moment Macy was so determined not to have ruined earlier was finally done. There was nothing left to spoil. She must have been pretty shocked by the final reveal, because she wasn’t saying anything.
A final tension-filled showdown. The villain comes undone and is vanquished due his own hubris and shortsightedness. Epilogue. End credits roll.
Finally! Macy could release me and I could rinse my mouth out with a gallon of mouthwash to get rid of the awful taste of her socks.
.... Macy?
....
“zzzzzzz....”
She was asleep?!
“MMMMHHPHHHHYY!!!”
“.....zzzz.....”
Unbelievable! She picked this movie in the first place and she couldn’t stay even concious for the whole runtime? How was I supposed to get out? She needed to wake up and untie me!
I yelled through my gag as loud as I could, but her snoring continued unabated. She was sleeping too heavily for my muffled volume to stir her.
I slumped back against the chair, wondering how long was I doomed to remain chair-bound and sock-gagged, when I noticed something on the screen. A panel at the bottom-right.
[Autoplaying next movie in 10 seconds]
The background splash screen changed from an image of ‘Midnight Rambler’ to one for ‘Ghost Lights’. That horrific demon returned. The streaming application was about to play the next movie in Macy’s ‘To Watch’ bookmarked list!
NO!! Not that! Anything but that! I can’t stay sitting here while that plays, I just can’t! Macy WAKE UP! PLEASE!
“MMGHHH!! MMMMMPHHH!!!”
I shouted into the gag as loud as I possibly could. Macy still snored.
I tossed my body around as roughly as I possibly could. The tape didn't break. The wedged chair didn't shift even an inch.
[Autoplaying next movie in 1 second]
The next movie started. Even just the creepy detuned violin background music was enough to put me in a state of abject terror. I closed my eyes shut but at its loud volume I could still hear everything.
I was going to be stuck experiencing a scary movie whether I liked it or not. I didn’t know whether to scream or cry. I’d soon be doing plenty of both.
