“AAAAAGHH!”
Seconds before the plummeting woman struck the pavement, a pink blur swooped in out of nowhere. It intercepted her trajectory, catching her mid-air and carrying her away. The terrified woman’s scream faded as she realised she was no longer moving downwards, but upwards. She looked up to see my smiling face, with my long golden locks flowing behind me.
“Don’t worry miss. You’re safe now.”
I slowed my flight and landed on the rooftop of a skyscraper, setting the woman down onto shaky legs.
“Y-you’re Purity! The pink protector of peace!”
“At your service. I hope next time you’ll be more careful near ledgmmh?”
The woman threw her arms around my neck and kissed my lips. It was my turned to be surprised. She tasted like cherry.
“Mwaaah!”
She giggled and turned to leave, giving me a sly farewell wink. She had an odd purple tint to her iris. As she disappeared through the rooftop door, I snapped out of my daze. I’d been on my way to Crusader League HQ when the scream pulled me away. Time to return to duty.
I launched into the sky. The freedom of flight, the wind hitting my face, high above the troubles and complexities of life. It was my favourite part of having powers.
My superhero costume was a white leotard with pink accents, not covering any of my arms or legs, complemented by a pink domino eye-mask, short pink gloves, and heeled pink boots. No cape, which I would have very much liked to cover up my fairly-exposed buttocks.
It wasn’t the most modest costume, somewhat at odds with my hero name. The hyper-resilient fibres necessary to withstand superhuman speeds and impacts were a rare material, so my designed outfit was... minimal. Maybe a few more years of successful heroics and I’d be able to commission something more decent.
The Crusader Tower loomed large, poking above the rest of the city’s skyline. I descended onto a landing platform that led directly into the top floor. Other heroes were already gathered inside or also just arriving, taking seats around the C-shaped desk in the middle of the room. Two seats were conspicuously empty.
Captain Crusader was standing at the glass wall with his back to us, looking out over the city. He turned towards us, a solemn expression troubling his clean-cut handsome features.
“Thank you everyone for coming at short notice. I’ll cut straight to the chase. Last night the Spirit Sisters were ambushed, defeated and captured. They were on a top-secret mission to root out villain activity in the east islands.”
A murmur went around the room.
“No-one outside the League knew about their mission or their whereabouts. This is not the first time the enemy has demonstrated an inexplicable awareness of our covert activities. It’s with a heavy heart that I must inform you, we have a traitor in our midst.”
The murmurs burst into disbelief, accusation and fear. As the superheroes squabbled, something strange happened. The room, the people in it, even the world outside, the colours all shifted to an ominous purple tint. No-one else was reacting to it. Did they not even notice? Why did I taste cherry?
Before I knew it, I was standing up. Every head turned towards me. I opened my mouth to speak.
“You got me Captain. Guess the jig is up.”
What? That isn’t at all what I wanted to say. They were dumbfounded. Miss Amazing stood up from the chair beside me, grabbing my arm with concern.
“Purity? What are you saying? This isn’t funny!”
I turned towards her.
“That’s because you haven't heard the punchline yet.”
My fist drew back. Why did it...?
POW!
My punch hit her right in her chest. She was thrown backwards a great distance, crashing through the double-doors into the corridor outside the room. I didn’t mean to do that. How was this happening? I could feel everything I was doing, but I wasn’t doing any of it myself. I had completely lost control of my own body.
I stared around at the stunned heroes in the room, all still under a sheen of purple. I realised now, the reason they hadn’t reacted to the blanketing hue is because it was only in my eyes.
Captain Crusader’s face contorted with fury.
“The traitor was you all along?”
No!
“Yes”
My mouth acted of its own accord as easily as my body did. I felt myself coil up in preparation for attack. I tried my best to resist, to hold myself back. It was like telling the sun to stop shining.
I rocketed forward fists-first, as Captain Crusader did the same towards me. We struck each other simultaneously and ricocheted backwards. He smashed through the window, plunging down outside surrounded by a thousand shards of glass, while I crash-landed on the table, splitting it in two. Everyone else jumped into action. Towards me, the ‘treacherous’ hero out of control.
My fist uppercut someone’s face, while my foot struck the chest of another. Miss Amazing’s body extended back into the room, stretched into an incredibly long flexible tube that weaved its way through the air. While I was swinging at others, she looped herself all around me, closing in and grappling my body.
With her own impressive strength, she held back my movements, drawing my arms and legs closer together. It was awkwardly intimate, as my still-intact sense of touch felt her skin grinding against my skin everywhere.
“Purity... just... give up!”
How I wanted to. While she held me relatively still, The Mentalist, recovering from an earlier glancing blow, raised his hand towards my head.
“Stop. Slow. Relent. Be calm. Be clear.”
His compelling psychic influence washed over my mind. To my shock and relief, the purple haze disappeared with it.
“I... it’s me! I wasn’t doing that! Something was affecting me!”
Captain Crusader floated back in through the broken window, his darkened glare chilling the room.
“No. We’re not falling for any more deceptions. Mentalist, finish it.”
“No! I’m telling the truth!”
“Sleeep...”
Everything went dark.
A tall brunette woman in a white lab coat stepped inside the high-tech elevator. It scanned her handprint and her right eye before allowing her to select the lowest floor. The elevator rapidly descended for a full minute before eventually opening into an advanced futuristic facility. The woman traversed several corridors and descended down several more staircases until she reached her destination.
The small room had a sophisticated control panel and a viewing window looking into a very large mostly-empty room. Its main feature was a thick metal chain running from the ceiling into a small hole in the floor, with a huge power cable fed down alongside it. She entered some instructions and machinery inside the room whirred into motion.
The chain began rising. After another minute’s wait, the small hole widened into a large opening. A cube-shaped metal frame dangling from the chain rose up from the hole.
Inside the frame was a complex arrangement of thick metal poles, all leading towards the centre where a person was suspended. She had bedraggled blonde hair and was naked, partly covered by metal bands surrounding her body. They held her in a vertical hogtie, securely gripping her ankles, knees, wrists, elbows, waist, neck, and several other points for reinforcement. Her mouth and eyes also had metallic coverings.
The frame had 20 powered-up pads mounted on it pointing inwards, ready to deliver continuous suppressing shockwaves towards the captive in the highly unlikely event that the constraints started showing any sign of weakening.
Despite the rigid structure being totally immobile, the subject was writhing against it constantly. The brunette in the viewing room pressed another button and the eye-covering metal band retracted.
For the first time in weeks, I could see. The same sterile room that was my last sight before being plunged deep underground. Through the glass window on the wall before me, I saw the same scientist that sent me down. Something was different about her this time though. She held down a button and I heard her voice emit through a speaker.
“Nice to meet you again Purity. You did very well that day in the tower. Tell me, am I a good kisser~?”
I remembered. I couldn’t do much but remember these days. The lady I rescued that morning who kissed me had purple eyes, just like I did later in the tower. The same purple eyes that the scientist before me had right now. The work of some new supervillain on the scene that we’d never encountered before.
“You can call me Purple Haze. Not that you can call anyone anything right now.”
“Mmmmghh!!”
“Forgive me if I don’t come down there to kiss you again. I’d rather not give you any opportunity to escape. How does it feel being trapped within your own league's super-prison?”
I burst into a furious bout of thrashing. From the outside I barely seemed to be moving at all.
“Struggle all you like. Those bars are reinforced by the same raw materials that stitch together your costumes. They’re built to restrain villains much stronger than you. I doubt you’d escape even if you were left unmonitored for a hundred years. How long is your natural lifespan by the way?”
My movements slowed, but my agitation remained. The awful strain of the position I was held in never went away. I was always restless.
“Super-resilience is one of your core strengths I see. That’s the downside of having powers isn’t it? Where someone else’s mind and body would break and fade away, you remain healthy and energised and alert. In a constant state of yearning to be free. But I'm afraid your flying days are over. How about this, just for fun...”
She tapped a few buttons. Something hummed in the metal cage. The bands holding my body all squeezed in a little, drawing my body into an even more strained pose. This was an actively stressful sensation. I yelled into my gag.
“That extra pressure isn’t necessary for securing you, but it’ll give you something more to agonise over~. As for your insertions...”
My three main orifices were filled with large toughened silicone plugs. Another few button presses, and to my horror I felt them move. They extended deeper inside me, then retracted, then reinserted, sliding in and out, speeding up and slowing down in a randomised pattern. The two lower plugs began vibrating randomly at low teasing level.
“Something to entertain you in the dark. Don’t worry, you’ll get a short break from them when you’re brought back up for cage maintenance. Which is due in... six months! Actually, let's set that to nine months.”
“MMPH?!!”
The woman leaned towards the glass, her purple eyes blazing.
“I’ve been laying low ever since that day, to reinforce the narrative that you were the spy. I’ll keep it that way until your crusader friends forget all about you. You weren’t the first hero I possessed, and you won’t be the last. I’m going to worm my way inside your organisation and tear them apart from the inside. Once I’m done, the few people who even know about this place will be buried inside holes just like yours. Ta-ta~”
She tapped a button. The cage shook, then descended. I wailed in horror through the pumping plug gag. I’d never felt as weak and helpless as I did now. The final thing I saw before re-entering the deep dark hole were those taunting purple eyes.
