Evie stood before the gleaming front of 2B Laboratories, its name lit up in a cool blue over an edifice of glass and metal, revealing the sweeping reception area within. Evie knew from her research this was merely the tip of the iceberg, the entrance building to a sprawling campus of interconnected buildings, the grounds between dedicated to creating a relaxing environment for recovering clients and test subjects.

A thousand thoughts ran through her head as she walked inside, her trainers squeaking a little against the polished white tiles. Everything was so immaculate and pristine, the white and blue color scheme continuing throughout. Images of clients enjoying themselves in the lab’s grounds provided a splash of colour, but Evie still stood out in her blazing orange tank top, her running gear hugging her slender body. Feeling like all eyes must be on her, letting out a deep breath as she tried to calm herself, stopping in front of the reception desk,

“Good morning, are you still accepting subjects for the weight loss trials?”

A few hours after the puzzled receptionist had handed Evie a stack of paperwork to be filled in, she found herself waiting inside an office, those same thoughts still racing through her head - did she really want this? Would it be permanent? Would it hurt? Could they even do it? She tried to focus on the room, shutting the thoughts out. She’d been told it was Dr. Grey’s office. No first name given, but going by the name plate it began with a T. Thomas? Terry? Tiberius? She kind of hoped it was Tiberius.

Her eyes scanned the room, seeing evidence of someone who spent little time behind his desk, presumably preferring to get his hands dirty. The desk was covered in stacks of papers, folders of previous patients? Evie resisted the urge to leaf through, as tempting as it was. A couple of mugs stood abandoned, the remains of forgotten tea dried up at the bottom. A crumpled muffin wrapper, blueberry mush smeared on the desk. Hanging from a stand in a corner were a couple of lab-coats, one immaculate, the other with shredded arms, the back ripped open. Evie started to wonder why he’d kept it when she heard the door open behind her.

“Sorry I’m late, tending to a, er, hairy situation.” He smiled as he sat down, face warm and kind, though he looked like he could go with another cup of tea. His dishevelled clothes, messy black hair, and a few days worth of stubble suggesting he spent a lot of time working in the lab. Evie wasn’t sure if that was a good sign or a bad sign, but sided with being optimistic, smiling back at him.

“So, I understand you’re here about the new weight loss drug?” He continued, pushing aside some of the folders on his desk to make room for Evie’s. “If you’ll forgive me for saying so, Miss… Rosewood, you don’t look like you need it.” His tone made it clear he wasn’t judging her, but Evie couldn’t help feel a little guilty, her cheeks blushing red, thinking a moment before replying.

“Well, I saw those images of Ms. Davis. She was the first subject, wasn’t she?” Dr. Grey nodded, listening patiently as Evie spoke. “And, well, I know the whole pool toy thing was an accident, but it’s been a fantasy of mine.” She blushed redder still, looking down. “To be a pool toy. To be nothing but plastic and air. To float on cool waters. And, well, to be curvier.” It felt good to say it, to get it off her chest, the thoughts feeling more real now she’d admitted them to someone else. She smiled a little, looking up at Dr. Grey as he smiled back.

“Miss Rosewood, I’m sure we could help you there. If nothing else, it would give us better insight into how the drug affects the human body. Now, you mentioned in the paperwork that you had a few custom requests…”

Evie hung her legs off the side of the bed, swinging them gently, staring at her reflection in the mirrored wall of the test chamber.  It was a week since that conversation with Dr. Grey, time enough to formulate the drug for her body, reducing the ingredients that converted adipose tissue and adding a few others to suit her desired form. A week Evie spent barely able to concentrate on anything else, constantly waiting for her phone to ring, to hear they were ready to test it.

Part of her wished she was wearing something more interesting than the dark grey tankini she’d been offered, lab issue, intended to stretch out comfortably as she grew. One way or another, she figured this would be the last time her reflection would look like this. It felt like she ought to pay attention, remember how she used to look.

She’d always been tall, even as a child, which at least had made her a good runner. It kept her body slim, toned, even though she’d longed for curves. Looking down, she ran a hand down her arm, fingers brushing over her pale skin, dotted with freckles. Would she keep them, she wondered, when her skin became plastic?

Behind her another of the lab’s doctors, Kate, was making the last few checks on her treatment, checking everything was in order. Something about not becoming a blueberry. Evie glanced back, seeing Kate leaning over the table and humming as she worked, her pink furred tail lazily curling out from under her lab coat. Evie knew what to expect from the place, but it was still a little surprising seeing her doctor for the first time, those twitching pink cat ears nestled in her equally pink hair. She took a moment to check her own hair, bright ginger, done up in a thick braid hanging over her left shoulder. She’d been advised to set it how she liked it, that the change would likely keep it set in that shape.

“Okay, that’s everything checked out, you’re good to go!” Kate’s voice seemed to sing as she straightened out, walking back around the bed to face Evie, a small paper cup in one hand and a bottle of water in the other. “So, ready for this? It’ll be fine, I promise, but if you need anything I’ll be right here.”

“Thanks…” Evie took the offered items and looked down into the paper cup, the cluster of small pills that lay inside. They seemed so small to be able to do so much. The wonders of modern technology. “Once more unto the breach.” She whispered to herself, tipping the pills into her mouth, swallowing them down with a mouthful of water. Another sigh as she set the bottle down beside her, looking back at herself in the mirror, taking the occasional glance at Kate as she waited for the changes to kick in.

It was a little strange, given the nature of the treatment, that the first stages relied so much on her human body. Stomach dissolving the pills. The drugs gradually absorbed as they passed through the intestine. Blood pumping them throughout her body, carrying them to every cell, letting them begin their work.

Time crawled by as Evie waited, the changes so subtle at first she almost missed them. Her stomach felt odd, not quite bloated, her torso starting to swell a little. Smiling a little, she rested her hand against her belly, gently pressing in, feeling it push slightly against her hand as the pressure built inside her.

The more the changes progressed, the more intense it felt. Inside, she felt numb: a growing hollow feeling as her organs were progressively converted into air. In contrast her skin felt stretched out, feeling the growing tension of the air building inside her. Her belly now a gentle curve, she watched as her hips began to stretch sideways, thighs thickening, the smile on her face growing as if to match.

“Wow…” Evie whispered, running a hand across her thighs, hearing a faint squeak as her skin caught plastic briefly. Kate was supposed to remain impassive, impartially observing and taking notes, but she couldn’t help but smile a little as Evie discovered she was becoming plastic, Kate’s tail flicking behind her.

Evie watched as her skin grew shinier with each passing moment, stretching taut as skin turned to plastic, only making her look even curvier. Freckles faded from her skin as it appeared to tan, a smooth and even colour, gradually shifting to a bright orange. Her skin gleamed a little in the light of the lab. Plastic fingers ran up her side, squeaking as they went, running along the plastic seam as it grew up her body, the thicker plastic helping to define her shape.

More seams appeared across her body, tickling a little as her plastic skin pulled together. She couldn’t help but giggle a little, loving the way they made her body look more like a ‘real’ pooltoy, something made in a factory. She glanced down at her belly, a new seam splitting it down the middle, an odd feeling as her belly button began to press out. Something emerged, white and stiff, gradually forming into a valve. Evie’s fingers hovered, resisting the urge to open it. There would be a time, later, when her body had finished changing.

As the seam stretched down, running between her legs, she could feel her body smoothing over, sealing up. Her ass cheeks swelled out and pressed together, fusing, the seam resting in a gentle valley between them. Another pressure built, a stiffening sensation either side of her hips, and Evie wondered for a moment if they were going to stretch wider. Flexible orange plastic grew paler, harder, the base of handles forming. Her eyes lit up as her custom additions grew out, plastic pushing up and looping round, forming solid handles set into her skin. She carefully grabbed one, tugging at it, feeling the way her skin around it stretched against the movement.

Inside, little remained of her old body, living plastic having no need for a stomach, or bones, or muscles. It was mystery that continued to defy the lab’s scientists, just how these inflatable bodies functioned. Evie did not mind as her lungs and heart slowed to a stop, turning to air as the rest of insides had, a slight gagging feeling as her throat closed up. As they changed she felt a rush of air inside her, pressure building, finding release as her breasts began to balloon outwards.

“Oh my…” came Kate’s voice, though Evie barely noticed, so focused on her rising chest, stretching out her top to its limits. Looking down, her breasts filled her vision, blocking out the rest of her body. They were still swelling, nipples pushing out, rubbing against the fabric of the material as they grew hard, forming valves - the feeling familiar but much more pleasurable then her belly had been. Desperate to see more, she pulled the top off, her breasts swaying a little on her chest as they bounced free. The values stood proud on top of them, dull white against her orange skin, puffing up a little around them.

Evie stared at them in the mirror, turning sideways, getting a feel for just how big they had become - they might as well have been beachballs. She saw a flash of white behind her, her shoulder blades stiffening into solid plastic, gradually forming a second pair of handles. Evie caught a glimpse of her head beginning to change, the familiar hollow pressure building once more, her features smoothing out and becoming rounder. A squeaking sound as her ears changed, sealing them off. She gently prodded one with a finger, mostly just an approximation of an ear now, though still clearly hearing the squeak of plastic against plastic. Her nose followed, smoothing out a little against her face, a gentle but obvious bump.

Her vision blacked out as her eyes changed, closing shut, flattening. There was a tingling sensation as new printed eyes appeared, her vision returning with them. As she blinked her vision went dark, though she could feel no movement. Glancing at her reflection, she was a little stunned to see the printing was moving, solid blue irises rolling around as she looked about, the black outline closing as she winked. Another tickle as more printing appeared, a diamond of freckles below each each, resting on a blush of red.

There was an odd taste of plastic as the inside of Evie’s mouth changed, flowing from her sealed throat. Her tongue remained, smooth and flexible, teeth merging together into smooth rows. Without a jaw, Evie realised she could stretch and move her mouth with ease. She stood up, realising for the first time just how light her body had become, almost bobbing about as she slowly walked towards the mirror, getting a better look at her mouth.

“Testing, testing… woah, this is going to take a little getting used to.” She could feel the back of her mouth vibrating a little as she spoke, mimicking how she used to speak before.

Her hair began to change, merging together, looking like someone had spilled latex paint over her, a shade darker than the rest of her. The paint spread, running over the shape of her hair, gradually conforming to the shape of her hairstyle. Evie grinned, reaching up to feel the three curves of plastic hair hanging down, her thick braid now a knotted strand hanging down over a shoulder.

Evie realised her change was finished and stood stunned, frozen in place, not quite believing she was a living pool toy now. “This… this is amazing.” She finally spoke, plastic face lit up with glee.

“Hmm, I think we need to run a few tests first, make sure your new body has adapted properly. That there aren’t any unforeseen side effects.” Kate spoke like a scientist, concerned for her test subject, but Evie couldn’t help but notice the glint in her eye, the slight curl to her lips.

Evie floated lazily in one of the lab’s pools. After all, what better place to test a pool toy? She rested easily on her back, braid drifting a little to her side, hands gripping her handles once again. She wasn’t sure quite why, but having someone hold them felt pretty good. A sense of satisfaction at being used, perhaps? Heated by the afternoon sun, the air inside her expanded, stretching out her body a little more, an oddly relaxing feeling.

She’d learnt quickly that lying on her front was a little difficult on her own, as her breasts would lift her out of the water. She could deflate them, each sealed off and separate from the rest of her body, but she much preferred the feeling of someone lying on her back: the weight of them pressing against her body, pushing her deeper into the water, air inside straining to lift out, stretching her skin. But there would be more time for that later.

Kate was in the water with her, having swapped out of her lab coat for a much more flattering white swimsuit, still bearing the 2B Laboratories logo. She stood in the water, one hand holding onto one of Evie’s handles, as the other began to pull out her belly valve, going as slowly as possible. If pressed, she’d say she was proceeding with caution, but really she enjoyed drawing out the tension.

“How is our latest subject doing?” The voice of Dr. Grey cut across the air as he walked along the edge of the pool, shadow cast into the water. Kate blushed a little, turning in the water, carrying Evie’s floating body with her, bobbing her up and down.

“Ah, doctor, I didn’t see you there. I was just about to-” Kate started to say, ears twitching, before Evie cut in.

“She was just about to test how my body coped with being deflated. Care to watch?”
Dr. Grey thought for a moment, observing the pair before replying. “Perhaps you ought to deflate your breasts, first? Might look a bit odd, otherwise.”

“Good idea, doc!” Evie reached up to pull out the valves her nipples had become, droplets of water falling from her hands, running down her orange skin. She squeezed them gently, pressing down on her breasts, letting the air flow out of them. She shuddered a little as she did, not wanting to admit just how good it felt. Before long, they lay crumpled and flat on her chest, Kate’s hand once again poised to deflate her, fingers teasing her belly valve open.

Evie felt dizzy and lightheaded as air began to escape, rushing out of her, relieving the build-up of pressure brought on by the sun. As the air flow began to slow down, Kate started to crumple Evie’s body up, her plastic skin rubbing together. The more air left her, the more tired Evie felt, like she was drifting off to sleep. Kate kept going, pushing against the water to help, soon bundling Evie’s head up with the rest of her…

Evie slept, a deep sleep, dreaming of floating across the water. Warm sunlight beating down on her, the cool waters below soothing her, the wind gently carrying her across distant tropical islands. Birds circled overhead. Fish swam beneath her. And she didn’t have a care in the world.

She woke to the sound of rushing wind. Her whole body vibrated with each new surge of air, warm and humid, water droplets tickling a little as they formed inside her skin. She leaned up a little, looking at Kate blowing new air back into her body.

“Welcome back, sleepyhead.” Kate glanced over as Evie stirred, grinning at her. “Suppose I should have warned you that might happen. What did you dream of?”

“Mmm, distant shores, exotic islands. It felt good to be floating, but a little lonely. I guess parrots don’t make good company.” Evie yawned, stretching out her arms as they filled with air, returning to their normal shape. “Yeah, feels much better to be here… mind if I stay a while? Help out, if I can?”

“Hmmm…” Dr. Grey stood once more in thought. “Well, I think we do have an opening for an assistant, someone to help other people with their recovery. Um, that is, if you’re interested?” It took Dr. Grey one look at Evie’s beaming face to know what her answer was.

Evie settled into her new role quickly, proving quite popular with new clients and test subjects. Though she helped out anywhere she was needed, she spent most of her time in the pool, always happy to serve as a buoyancy aid - whether they needed the help or not…
