Jenny and Lex had finally gone through the rigmarole that is moving day, and a whole host of boxes now filled the rooms on the ground floor of their newly acquired home.
The house had been in Jenny’s family for generations, so it was easily close to a hundred years old. There were constant reminders of this, with old items scattered around the house that looked like they had been there since the house was first built.
The house itself was huge, compared to their home they had just recently moved from, which they had put on the market to sell. Once sold, they would be able to invest some of that money into repairing and upgrading their new home.
After about a week of snooping about the house, trying to move existing furniture into a one of the rooms on each of the floors, to help give them some space for them to unpack their own belongings. Jenny had found a room in the basement, which looked a little out of place from the entire house. The door looked to be made of some kind of industrial metal, at first Jenny thought it might be a safe, a vault or even a panic room, but it only had a single key hole in which it could be opened. Jenny had been scouring the house for this key for days, and she wanted to know what was behind the door!
During the following weeks, Jenny had looked pretty much looked all over the house, and now had a small collection of random keys she had found, she had even put little tags on the keys, so she knew where she had found them, just in-case that helped her work out what room was connected to this strange room she had found in the basement.
On a Saturday morning while Lex was out of the house doing the weekly food shop, Jenny decided to go down to the basement and start going through the keys to see which one, if any, would open this mystery door.
The basement wasn’t as super creepy as you might think, it actually was quite well lit. It had certainly been updated fairly recently, as all the switches, lighting and cabling looked fairly new. This made it easy for Jenny to be able to see perfectly in the basement, and made it a lot easier to check through the collection of keys she had on her. Jenny painstakingly went through the keys until she got to a key which looked like it would fit the lock perfectly. It was a chunky key compared to the others, and as Jenny offered the key to the lock, it slid into the keyhole. Was it the right key? Jenny thought to herself, as she started to twist the key in the lock, her anticipation and anxiety levels were sky high, as she wondered what waited for her behind the door. Then with the final part of the twist of the key, Jenny heard the locking mechanism, clunk. That was it! She had finally unlocked this weird door in her basement, as Jenny went to pull the door open, a bright white light could be seen radiating around the edges of the opening door...
