“I’m back!”
“That was quick.”
“Well, I found something at the game shop. It’s a board game, but with a twist!”
“Oh no, is this another one of your weird magical things?”
“Maybe…”
“Then I don't want to play it! Last time we messed with magic all of the furniture was stuck to the ceiling for a week!”
“Yeah, but boy was that wand of flight was so fun to mess around with! Besides, this one is different, it says right here that the effects can be easily reversed once the game is over.”
“So you admit that it’s magical.”
“Just play the game, It’ll be fun!”
“Alright, alright. But when the game is over, everything better be back to normal.”
“Great! The rules say that first we each need to take a character sheet, and I totally claim the dragon one.”
“They’re all animal themed? Then I guess I’ll take the snow leopard.”
“Next we take one of the party tokens and put it in the middle. Woah cool! They look just like us!”
“More like freaky.”
“Yah, but still cool. Anyway, the goal of the game is to get this mcguffin out of the temple. If we can't do that then we lose, but if we can we win. The first step is to choose a player to hold it this round.”
“The mcguffin? Does it actually say that?”
“Yes! It does! And it says whoever has the mcguffin when we leave the dungeon gets to use its magical powers to change everything back.”
“Then I’m totally taking it! ...wait, why is my character growing a tail? Why am I growing a tail!?”
“Sweet! You’re growing a tail!”
“Not sweet! I like my butt the way it is!”
“Too late now! Whoever is carrying the mcguffin transforms a little bit at the start of each round.”
“Ok, I guess that’s fair, but I just think snow leopards are cool, I don't want to actually become one!”
“Don't worry, we’ll finish the game fast enough, probably.”
“Then get on with it. What’s next?”
“Next we roll the die and move that many spaces.”
“Simple enough, I’ll do it. Four, not bad.”
“Woah cool! We’re moving!”
“What? No, we’re not.”
“On the board you idiot our characters are moving!”
“Ok, that’s actually pretty neat. What’s next?”
“Next we draw a card. Here, I’ll do it. You walk into a room with a small altar in it. On the wall is a description that explains that if a sacrifice (choose a player) is placed on the altar, a passage will open and allow you a quicker way out of the dungeon. Alternatively, you could walk away.”
“Well, I’m not doing it. Will you?”
“Why not?”
“You’ll probably transform into a dragon.”
“That sounds like a positive, not a negative. It says here that if you do you roll a die and move that many spaces. Then the sacrifice takes twice as many tokens as the number rolled. Aw, just a one!”
“Don't look now, but I’m not the only one with a tail anymore!”
“Holy crap! I thought you were exaggerating when you freaked out about growing a tail. This feels weird!”
“Yeah, it did. I’m glad I didn't sit on the altar.”
“I’m glad I did! And woah! Are those horns?”
“Looks like it. You chose the dragon card after all.”
“This is so cool!”
“I’m going to reserve my judgment until we’ve played a few more rounds.”
“Well, now we start another round. Do you want to keep the mcguffin or shall I take it?”
“I think I’ll keep it for now. Woah! What’s happening to my ears!?”
“Ooo, look, my character on the board got cool horns and a tail too!”
“Really? I’m growing freaking leopard ears and you- woah. I can hear everything!”
“Cool!”
“Ok, yeah this is kinda cool. But don't think that that makes this ok.”
“Yeah, whatever, I’m just gonna roll. A three, not terrible…”
“The card says you enter a hallway full of traps! Each player rolls and adds their sense and dex modifiers. If you roll below a five you have to take three tokens or a tf card.”
“What’s a tf card?”
“I think it’s an alternative to the tokens and does other stuff instead of making you more like your animal.”
“Here, you go first.”
“Ok, I rolled a three… and only have a 1 in dex. That means I failed. I think I’ll try the card… uh oh.”
“Uh oh?”
“Yah. I think this card switches my-”
“Uh dude, you’ve got…”
“Yep, definitely switches my gender.”
“Can I opt out of this game now?”
“Oh come on. Being a girl isn't that bad, grow up.”
“You’re right, it’s just weird. Eh, whatever. My turn to roll anyway. I got a one.”
“Draw a card!”
“I think I’d rather take the tokens. Wait, my hands! They have pads!”
“Not just your hands! Your face!”
“What’s happening to my face? Woah! Am I growing a muzzle?”
“I think so! That’s so cool!”
“And I have a lot more fur now too. This is so weird. I don't want to be a leopard!”
“You look awesome! Now I want more of those tokens.”
“Don't jinx us. I look like a freak.”
“You look fine. Besides, we’re nearly halfway out of the temple.”
“Yeah, but next round you get the mcguffin.”
“I’m fine with that. Woah. Cool scales.”
“Just roll the die already.”
“A six, nice. A boulder blocks your path! Go back three spaces and draw another card!”
“Great. What a useful card.”
“Oh don't be such a downer. We’re halfway out! The next card says: A distant gong resonates with anyone who has transformed. If you have any tokens, take two more.”
“Oh, woah. Everything’s turned weird like the saturation was turned halfway down.”
“Your eyes changed. They’re slitted. That’s super cool. Do you think you can see in the dark?”
“Can you smell better?”
“Oh woah! How did I not notice my mouth! I have teeth! Well, I did before, but now they’re super sharp!”
“Yeah, and I have claws. You can keep the mcguffin for now though. I don't want it.”
“Sweet, I have like heat-o-vision or something.”
“Probably because you’re a dragon. I’m just gonna roll the die.”
“Nice roll, a 5.”
“A glowing ring of light appears before you. You cannot see what is on the other side, but you assume it is a portal. Do you want to go in or continue on?”
“Go in!”
“Wait! We don't know- aaaaah!”
“Woah! Aaaaah! oof!”
“Look at what you did!”
“Where are we?”
“I don't know! You’re the one who said we would enter the portal!”
“Well, we can figure this out. Stone floor… Stone walls… Wait! Is that us?”
“What? Where!?”
“Look up! We’re huge!”
“Holy cow! But wait. I don't think we’re huge, I think we’re tiny!”
“And look, a smaller version of the mcguffin!”
“I think that portal sucked us into the game!”
“Don't look now, but we’re rolling.”
“Holy- Duck!”
“Aaah! That die is huge!”
“And I think we just rolled a one. Ok, now they’re drawing a card…”
“I think we’re supposed to follow the arrows!”
“This is insane, but here we go.”
“Adventure!”
“This new hallway gives me a bad feeling.”
“Are you sure? It looks safe to me. Oh. Aaah!”
“Are you ok!?”
“I don't think so… I think I’m…”
“Dude! Er. Ah nevermind. But you’re definitely changing.”
“No kidding! This is awesome! I have wings! And oh woah!”
“Yah! There is no way I’m walking down that hallway! Not after you just went full dragon!”
“But we need to get out of here! We’re literally in the game right now! The us-es above probably got another hall of traps card or something. You just need to dodge them!”
“That’s a lot easier said than done!”
“You’re a freaking cat! Your dexterity must be through the roof! I’m sure you can do it!”
“This is a terrible idea! Here it goes… Aaah!”
“Wait! Watch out for that pressure plate!”
“Wha? Gumph! Mmph! What the he- phhh. Stuffing!?”
“I think the you above opted for one of the cards!”
“And it turned me into a freaking stuffed animal!”
“Which is freaking awesome! You’re all squishy now!”
“Ah! Hay! Don't tackle me! And now please get off me, I’m not a pillow.”
“But you are, and you're so soft!”
“Ok, you’re right, but you’re crushing where my ribs used to be!”
“Alright alright, I’ll get off.”
“Look out! They’re rolling again!”
“We must be close to the exit now! Come on!”
“Can I at least have the mcguffin!?”
“Nope! I’m keeping it!”
“Hay! That’s not fair!”
“Only fair if you catch me!”
“But you have four legs!”
“Bye!”
“Oh come on!”
“Woah sweet! A forge!”
“Be careful! I think this is the next room!”
“Woah! Oof!”
“Ugh, too late.”
“Hay. It’s really warm in here… really really warm in here. In fact, I think I’m melting. Help! I’m melting! Brbleburbleburble…”
“Hey man, are you alright? Ouch! Hay! Ouch! What the- needles!? Scissors!? What is- Ouch! That’s my back! Get off! Hay! Don't take my stuffing out! Is that a zipper!? Why’s it becoming so hard to move? Are they making me into a costume!?”
“Oh wait! I’m not melting! I’m a goo-dragon! Sweet! But I think I swallowed the mcguffin.”
“Wait! Hay! I like having my head attached to my body! Woah! Stop! Mmph!”
“Mike? Mike? Where are you? And why is there a snow leopard fursuit on the floor?”
“Wait. Mike!? Is that you!? We need to get out of here! Oh. You can't move. I guess I’ll just pull you out then.”
“Look! I think that’s the forest ahead! Once we’re out I can change us back! I think it still counts if the mcguffin is inside my body…”
“Whew! Now to change you back… wait, how do I use this thing? Well, that’s pretty simple I guess. First, though we need to get out of this game.”
“What the? This isn't our room. This is a dungeon! What went wrong?”
“Oh, there’s a little disclaimer on the box… WARNING: After playing slight variations in players surroundings may occur. To undo these simply use the mcguffin to change the players and reality will change to suit their forms.”
“So if I change back to human… Yes! It worked! But this isn't our room! There’s only one bed. Oh, wait. Mike’s a costume, he doesn't need a bed. Maybe I should change him back now… I don't really want a fursuit. On the other hand, he made a great stuffed animal. Can I…? Oh yeah I can!”
“Don't worry Mike! I’ll change you back when school starts up again! In the meantime, I need to figure out how to get the mcguffin out of my stomach.”
