"I think I want to be put back together and see what the damage is." The five stacked sections were soon reduced to five separate sections.

Lisa said, "Do I get to be in an illusion too?" She looked at Quinn's face and winked. Quinn's initial expression of surprise melted into a 'You go for it, Girl' smile.

Both Kyle and Fred looked stunned, they had hoped to get Quinn to go for another illusion, but neither had expected Lisa to volunteer. They both nodded, fearing that a word in the wrong place would make Lisa change her mind.

"Great," said Lisa. "I'll go and choose an illusion, while you guys set out Quinn to be our audience. I don't think I want her to steal my limelight." She walked purposefully towards the store room where the magical props had been found.

Fred looked as if you could knock him over by just directing a puff air at him, but Kyle shrugged and set about re-arranging Quinn. This resulted in Quinn's head being placed on the table next to Fred's phone, which was still recording, and the rest of her in two piles; her chest on top of her thighs and her lower torso on her lower legs, a stack at each end of the table so as not to obscure the view of Quinn or Fred's phone.

"Do you think we could try out this?" asked Lisa, dragging a large table top on a wheeled frame into the main hall. On the upper surface of the table was a box a little over two feet in each direction and a bed of four foot spikes about two feet square.

"Of course, Lisa. There's no one to stop us, unless you chicken out." Fred seemed to have recovered from 'I might faint' to devious enough to start applying the psychological pressure in a matter of moments.

"Is that the one they call the spiker?" asked Kyle. Fred nodded and Lisa looked a little blank. "You must know that one. The assistant stands in the box and the magician waves a cloth over her and she's gone. The magician then opens the box to show she's crouching in there and closes it again. I never really saw the point of that myself, why not just get into the box; showmanship, I guess. Then the magician rams the spikes, which he has lit on fire, through the box and opening the box to show she has gone. He takes the spikes out and waves the cloth again and she reappears and gets out of the box. Often he'll wave the cloth again and another assistant will appear from the box, sometimes two or three."

"Oh yes, I've seen it on YouTube. I thought it was that one, but didn't know it was called that," said Lisa. "But I thought if I'm not in the box when the spikes are, there is no harm in giving it a go, right?"

"That would be ok, if it were that kind of spiker, but it's a variant, I don't know what they call it, but I've seen it in a couple of videos that seem to originate in Russia. I think you'll enjoy it if you try it." Fred's tone held the implication that the only reason to not try it was cowardice.

Fred approached the box end of the table and fiddled with a catch and pulled something. Suddenly there was a set of steps leading up to the box.

"How did you know they were there?" asked Lisa, in surprise.

"Actually, I didn't. But it stands to reason, because the assistant gets into the box in full view, being elegant, and climbing onto the table does suit that ambiance. And every video I've seen has a set of steps up to the box and I don't remember there being any loose steps among the illusions in the store room."

"Ok, Mr Know-It-All, what happens next?"

Fred trotted up the steps and opened the top of the box by sliding the two halves of the top sideways. "Now you get in the box."

"You must be kidding; surely I need to know something before I get in," countered Lisa.

Fred came down the steps and offered his hand to Lisa. "If you needed to know something, I'd have told you. Of course there are a couple of choices to make along the way, but we'll get to them as we come to them. Here's the first. So how do want to be dressed in the illusion?"

"What?"

"Well, as you have seen these magic props seem to damage clothes, even if they do no harm to the person. That's what happened to Quinn's outfit. And it would be a shame to shred your gorgeous Jessica Rabbit dress."

Lisa looked down at her dress. It shared several features with the outfit mentioned, particularly the colour, crimson; the sparkliness, Lisa's dress was scattered with sequins the highlighted her curves; the split in the skirt, to high on her thigh, but not so high she could not wear panties, as Lisa walked her right leg appeared from and returned to her skirt; and the bust enhancing nature of the top edge, which supported her breasts so that there was a hint of cleavage, but not much flesh on view. She considered it as near as she could practically get to that mythical garment and it was a favourite.

"So you want me to strip to do this illusion."

"Not if you don't want to. I was just saying it would be a shame to ruin your dress too. You wouldn't need to undress totally; you could leave your matching knickers on." Fred smiled.

"How did you get to see my panties?"

"To be fair, they were difficult to miss when you were can-canning to Madness," said Kyle in defence of his friend.

Mollified, but still a bit miffed, she summarised. "So you reckon I wear my dress," she smoothed it over her curves, "and risk that it might get destroyed or I do the illusion in just my knickers or in the altogether."

Fred nodded, "unless you have some other clothes."

"And you say this illusion is about elegance?" asked Lisa.

Fred seemed puzzled as to where Lisa planned to end up in this line of conversation. "Well the getting into and out of the box is about elegance, it's pretty obvious what the bit in between is about."

Lisa glanced at the spikes and gulped. "In that case, I'll be doing it properly elegantly." She took Fred's hand and allowed him to guide her to the base of the steps.

"You will probably want to take your shoes off, though; it'll improve your balance and elegance as you enter the box. Besides you don't want to go home barefoot, if one of the spikes should catch them."

Seeing some sense in that, Lisa took off her heels and slid them under the bottom step, before mounting the steps and looked suspiciously into the box. What she saw in the box did not improve her confidence. The box was completely empty. Each side wall had a gap to put fingers through and the front and back walls had a grid of holes, she had hoped to find some clue about how to avoid the spikes or some way out of the other side of the box. Her confidence was further knocked by noticing that the two halves of the top that Fred had slid aside each had a semi-circular cut-out in the inside edge.

"There's nothing in here," said Lisa

"What were you expecting?" asked Fred.

"Erm, nothing in particular, but I had hoped for some idea how to avoid the spikes."

"Have you seen how many spikes there are?" asked Kyle. "I make it twenty five" While he was right about the number, arranged as a four by four grid with another spike in the centre of each of the squares, Fred felt it was a tactical error to mention this before Lisa was secured in the box.

"Lisa, you chose this illusion," began Fred, "and must have seen that there were a lot of spikes. So, quit stalling and get into the box!"

"That was before I knew I was going to be in the box at the same time as them."

"Fair point," admitted Fred, "But I guarantee that you are safe in this illusion and my hands."

Lisa looked as if she was about to raise her foot to step into the box, when a thought occurred to her. "How can you guarantee my safety, if you've never seen this thing before?" She swept her hand to show that 'this thing' was the illusion she was standing on the front steps of.

"Because I know more than you might expect about magic and, besides, that flyer I found didn't mention an assistant or show a picture of one, so he must be doing this stuff on audience members or at least organisers with minimum rehearsal, so it must be safe as houses or he'd never get the insurance and a place like this is going to insist he prove he's insured. You know, public liability and all that."

"So, Fred, you're saying you know how to do this properly?" queried Lisa.

"Of course I do. I could probably build one if my woodwork and metalwork were up to it." The noise that Fred uttered next might best be transcribed as 'Bwook'. And then he look round to see where the chicken sound had originated. "If you're not going to do it. Bwook. Come and help put Quinn back together, 'coz I'm sure she'll do it, given that it's here already."

"You'd better be telling the truth, Fred, or you're so dead," said Lisa, as she lifted her right foot and extended her leg through the side slit in her dress. Making the effort to be elegant, she raised her foot to allow her to place it inside the box. With a smoothness that would have done a gymnast proud, Lisa placed her right foot inside the box and stood astride the perforated front wall of the box. Transferring her weight to her inside foot. She leant forward and extended her left leg behind her before tucking it down beside her right and straightening up again. "That elegant enough?"

Fred smiled, but Kyle said, "That was great; you didn't even give us a flash of your knickers either." Fred was beginning to despair of Kyle's tact, but he could not blame his friend, given that they had drunk plenty throughout the evening.

"Now you sit down in the box," instructed Fred.

Lisa sunk into the box and then started moving around. After nearly thirty seconds Fred asked, "Is there a problem, Lisa? It can't be that difficult to sit down in a box, even in that dress."

"I'm trying to find a way to sit that I can't feel at least a dozen holes."

"There's not a lot of point, Lisa. I'm guessing if you sat just right, you'd still get got by at least nine spikes and that position wouldn't allow us to close the lid. So just get as comfortable as you can sitting centrally in the box so that the lid can be closed; trust me to do the rest."

Lisa fidgeted for a bit and then said, "Hey there's actually more room in here than I thought. I think I will let Quinn in on the action."

Quinn for a moment nursed the hope that she would soon be reassembled, but this was short-lived, because Lisa's next words were, "Bring over the top box from the left hand pile; I'm sure we can fit it in here with me."

Fred looked like he felt this was not a good idea, but Kyle walked over and picked up a box and carried it over to the box, Lisa was now stood up in, and up the steps, to hand it to Lisa. Quinn did not even know which part was going to join Lisa in the spiker.

"I'm not so sure this is such a good idea," said Fred.

"Why?" asked Lisa, "Will it make the spiker more dangerous for me?"

"Or perhaps prevent us from restoring Quinn?" added Kyle.

"No. I was thinking of the damage to the props and what this Arthur, whoever he is, will do."

Lisa rested the boxed section of Quinn on the expanded lid of the box and beckoned Fred to come closer, while Kyle withdrew. She and Fred had a brief whispered conversation and finally Fred announced, "OK, carry on."

Lisa picked up the box containing part of Quinn and folded herself with it back into the box.

Fred came up the steps and looked in the box, before sliding the two sections of the lid back into place adjusting the position of Lisa's neck so that it sat within the circular hole made by the semi-circular cut-outs. He instructed Lisa to put her hands through the hand holes in the sides and to keep wriggling them. He dismounted the step and smoothly returned them to their previous stowage.

Next he picked a piece of Perspex and began mounting it diagonally outwards from the top edge of the box, behind Lisa's head.

"Hey! What're you doing back there?" asked Lisa.

"I'm mounting a guard to stop the flames setting your hair on fire." Fred added, "We all know how flammable hair is." Quinn blushed and they could tell it was an all-over blush. "I'm assuming you want the whole spiker experience with the spikes on fire." His tone was a challenge to wimp out and go for just plain spikes and be thought the lesser person for it.

"Ok," said Lisa, resignedly, "Flaming spikes it is, but if you so much as singe a single hair you're for the high jump, Fred."

Fred finished fitting the flame-guard and adjusting Lisa's hair to be out of the danger of combustion.

"Now for your last choice, Lisa. Do you want the spikes pushed through fast or slow?"

"My first instinct is to go for fast, but tell me why I might choose each option."

"Well, fast is mainly the it's-done option, whereas slow gives you a chance to feel the full experience of the spikes passing through you and Quinn too, and if the spikes hurt when they touch you, which they shouldn't, we can easily stop them before any harm is done."

"Alright, I'll go for slow; although why I want 'the full experience' of flaming spikes passing through me, I haven't the foggiest idea."

"Great, I'll just light the spikes, then we'll get this show on the road." Fred produced the lighter he had been using to ignite scraps of flash paper during the evening and in one case to make a soot mark on a card during a card trick.

"You will let me know before you start pushing the spikes through me, won't you?" asked Lisa, "I have a feeling I'll want to brace myself."

Fred lit the bottom four spikes and the flames lit the spikes above, while Fred moved to the back end of the table. "You said slowly, right?" called Fred

"Yes. Why am I feeling I might regret this?" Lisa called back.

After a pause, Fred said, "Ready or not here it comes."

Moments later the burning tips of the spikes disappeared into the box and Lisa's back. She had felt the heat from the flames through the holes in the back of the box, but was a little surprised that the heat did not seem to increase as she felt the tips of the spikes begin to penetrate her back; in fact she was also surprised that the entry of the spikes had not caused pain, but instead a kind of massage-y feeling.

"Hey! What's that smell?" called Lisa, as a wisp of smoke emerged from the edge of the lid.

"I guess the flames are singeing your dress a bit. I suppose it'll stop once the fiery part of the spikes is inside you," said Fred moving the spikes forward another couple of inches.

"Wow! Is this what a hot flush feels like?" commented Lisa. "Don't stop it there keep going!"

Fred pushed some more and Lisa felt her panties stretched away from her groin as the first spikes emerge through her. The points emerged from Lisa's front and stopped as some of them met the box containing part of Quinn.

"You can't stop there, Fred, the flames are singeing the front of my dress and one of the points has already snapped the elastic in my knickers."

Fred braced himself and gave the spikes an extra hard shove; some splintering was heard and Quinn could feel some points press into her left hip.

"Keep going!" encouraged Lisa, "I can feel the flames on my arms."

Fred kept pushing including the final effort it took for the spikes that penetrated Quinn's hips to exit the inner box and emerge through the holes in the front of the outer box.

"How's that?" enquired Fred. "Does it feel like you expected?"

"I ... don't know," pondered Lisa. "I didn't know what to expect, but it feels kind of sensual, although I am completely immobilised. I can only move my fingers."

"It feels alright to me to," added Quinn. "I always wondered what being penetrated by spikes or swords or whatever would feel like; now I know it feels good, despite getting only three or four spikes actually through me. I guess it must feel great to you Lisa, with all those other spikes."

"Let's just say I feel better than OK and might be persuadable to try something like this again."

Lisa was about to continue when Ann, another friend of Kyle's, breezed in through the door and said, "I was on the way home, after pouring the Andersen Twins into their beds, when I saw the lights were still on, so I thought I'd drop in and help with the clearing up." Then the scene she had stumbled on registered in Anne's mind; the pile of boxes containing the parts of a very naked Quinn and a box with flaming spikes sticking out the front and Lisa's head sticking out of the top. "Erm, what's going on guys?" she asked to anyone prepared to answer.
