I'm submitting an Oktoberfest-themed drawing to a Halloween contest because I like to live on the edge.

But yeah, here's a Filipino-German manananggal serving drinks at an Oktoberfest celebration. An Oktoberfest celebration that is taking place outdoors somewhere in the Alps, because I couldn’t figure out how I would want to draw the inside of a beer tent, or a sprawling fun-fair.

If you don’t know what a manananggal is, they’re basically like vampires of Philippine mythology, with bat wings and blood-sucking and everything. But what makes them special is their ability to divide themselves at the waist, which is pretty neat. It's a creature I've been intending to draw for a while, because they're cool, and the world needs more cute ones. Some like to pronounce it “mah-nah-nahng-goll”, but I like to think it’s pronounced “ma-na-nang-gal”, because then it fits even more nicely into the Batman theme tune. Also, the fact that their name ends in "gal" is absolutely great.

A special thanks goes to Bob Ross and the person who uploaded the entirety of Bob Ross’ TV series “The joy of painting” on YouTube. Without you, I would not have known how to make the mountains in the background as happy as they are.
