The SIV-5 Hornet Interceptors drones were initially developed as escort and patrol drones. They were built in the image of hornets and are more than fast enough to keep up with the relatively slow-moving aircraft of Trivium, though still small enough to ride on the transports when conserving power or recharging. Their armaments consist of a sting wand to fire magic blasts and two hard points. The hard points can be equipped with small weapons options, normally a pair of single-shot micro-missile launchers or a 6-shot revolving dart gun. They also have retractable legs and can carry small objects.

While the Hornets had excellent maneuverability and advanced targeting systems, their AI simply wasn't developed enough to think straightly or adapt to new situations. To counter this, the Cyvespa units were developed to command the drones.

Thanks to magical and cybernetic enchantments, the technorganic cyvespas are smarter then any purely synthetic android. They have a number of integrated systems, including anti-gravity engines, psy-warfare systems, navigation, hammerspace compartments, and a pair of laser stings. They also pose several expansion slots for additional hardware, including a hammerspace weapon. They are commonly installed with a wind piercer (spear) and honeycomb energy barrier.

The psy-warfare (psychic warfare) systems provide a number of useful abilities. They are capable of jamming and intercepting telepathy and message spells, common methods of communication for soldiers in the field. Unfortunately, there are rare variations of ESP that are immune to this system. They can also induce vertigo in opponents, provided they aren't protected or naturally immune. With skill, they can even send false messages under the guise of allies.

They have been networked with the improved SIV-5E Hornets, allowing command with their thoughts and even the ability to see through their eyes. Thanks to their linked processors, the cyvespas become more powerful with each drone that is networked. They can even choose when hornets use their limited ammo or their mana shots. Naturally, this system is immune to its own psy-warfare systems and that of other cyvespa units.

They have also been networked with other types of drones, including the spy drone reconnaissance unit. They are far smaller then the SIV-5's and largely lack any armor. However, their job is to hide and observe. They will often land and blend in with their surroundings and have noise cancelers to hide the sound of them flying.

The hatch on their second abdomen leads to their hammer space compartment. This can house a few dozen drones, but it's standard for additional drones to travel with them, either under their own power or by a carrier.

Additional drones are in development and can be added to the swarm for special missions. These can include psy-warfare specialty drones, barrier relay drones, and larger attack drones for more firepower.

Because cyvespa are robotized humans and demihumans, their appearance can vary. This can include having additional limbs or being larger then the average human.

I started watching Sonic Boom because I was requested to write a story with Sticks the Badger, who was invented for that cartoon. I enjoyed the bee bots and that inspired me to have bee-like drones in my stories. Eventually, I also got to the episode that parodied The Fly and it gave me the idea to cross it with a robot TF story I had planned over a year ago, inspired by one of Dvega's monthly Patreon wallpapers, but I never got around to writing it. Some day.

I had a bit of fun with it. I commissioned the fembot and two drones, after which I came up with other drones, but I didn't go back and have him draw more of them. I played around with this quite a bit. I made the background myself and with some help, I also made the barrier. In hindsight, I should have positioned the arm for the barrier better, but I might have been thinking it would go around the whole body. I also had to mess with the colors as the yellow-over-orange blends in with each other. To that end, I made a few recolors, but by then, the swarm was already in yellow and I couldn't change it without remaking the whole swarm. I also forgot to include Lilly's colors, so I changed the shoulders.
