Protem Gorgons

Physical description

Like all gorgons they have the upper body of a woman with snakes for hair and the from the waist down they have the body of a massive serpent. Unlike most gorgons the upper body is covered in skin, not scales.

General description

Protem Gorgons poses the power to turn all to make eye contact to stone. However their petrifying powers are the weakest of all gorgons as it lacks any form of permanence. Not only could it be broke with a strong enough spell but it would even ware off on it's own. Depending on the strength of the protem gorgon's magic it could last anywhere from 24 hours to a full week.

The effects of the stone gaze can be extended. One method is for the gorgon to pour more of her magic into the petrified victim when the effect is due to wear off. This will allow the gorgon to recast the stone gaze by their maximum once again. It is for this reason protem gorgons don't travel far from home. Another method is to put the statue into a mana field that continuously recharge the magic. However should the statue be removed from the field the effects would be short lived, 24 hours at most.

Gorgons also poses powerful body strength. They are fully capable of picking up their stone victims and moving them to another location, normally their lair. Their lower bodies are even stronger, able to crush bone with ease.

Should a statue be recused from a protem gorgon's gallery it is generally considered easier to simply wait for the effects to wear off on their own rather then finding a spell weaver who is powerful enough to break it. However gorgons are typically protective of their collection and will not give them up without a fight.
