It was Easter Sunday, and I was at an Easter party at my grandparents' house. There was food, games, an Easter egg hunt for the kids, and my grandparents' even hired a magician for entertainment. I was wearing a white sundress with sunflowers on it (my favorite flower), watching the magic show. He and an assistant held up a black cloth for a few seconds and dropped it. When they did, a guillotine had appeared that wasn't there before.
"I will need a volunteer." The magician said.
After looking around at the crowd, he pointed at me and said, "Would you come up here, please?"
I walked up to where he was and stood next to him.
"What is your name?" He asked.
"Carlie." I replied.
"Well, Carlie, I'm going to need you to put your head in there." He said while pointing to the stock on the guillotine.
I knelt down, and the magician opened the stock. I placed my neck on the stock, and moved my hair out of the way so that the stock wouldn't close on it. I didn't think anything about doing this because I didn't think the magician would do anything to hurt me with all of these kids watching. I figured this was probably one of those trick blades where the blade seemingly passes through the stock and the assistant's neck, but doesn't sever her head.
The magician closed the stock, placed a box under my head, and grabbed the rope.
"Are you ready?" He said to the audience. "On the count of three... 1... 2... 3..."
With that, the magician let go of the rope, and the blade dropped, and sliced clean through my neck. The audience gasped as my severed head fell into the box, and my headless body collapsed. So much for it being a trick. Instead of taking my head out of the box, the magician looked in the box, shrugged his shoulders and said, "I lose more assistants that way." That got a laugh from the audience.
An assistant handed the magician a black top hat.
"And now for my final trick... the world famous pulling a rabbit out of a hat trick."
The magician showed the inside of the hat to the audience to show that it was empty. He put his hand into the hat, but instead of pulling out a rabbit, he pulled out my severed head, wearing fake bunny ears! To this day, I still have no idea how my head went from the box to the hat, or how the bunny ears wound up on my head. I smiled so that the kids would know I was okay and not dead.
The assistant helped my headless body up and guided it to where the magician was standing. He placed my severed head back on my neck, and I felt it reattach. I felt my neck to make sure everything was okay.
"Let's give it up for Carlie!" The magician said.
The audience applauded.
The end.
