Charlette opened her eyes, the vaulted ceiling spinning above. Her soft and meticulously managed face contorted from the uncomfortable discombobulation of becoming yet another victim of the guillotine's blade.
A man wearing regal attire, bent over the basket that contained the severed head of his wife and queen. "Oh my dear." he frowned, "I never meant for them to end you like this."
The queen blinked, her resolve dwindling. "So be my fate. Reduced to a mere head for the rest of my years. And for what? You know I am innocent."
"Yes. Of course, yes. But...the people's perception that justice has been served restored order in the kingdom. A grim, but necessary sacrifice for the good of all."
Charlette disagreed. Vehemently. However, she slowly accepted what befell her. Managing herself without a body would certainly prove challenging, but she thought that perhaps the new way of life would be one of comfort and convenience. "What has happened with my body?"
The King smirked. "You're body is safe and sound. I plan using it to serve our most welcomed guests."
"Serve?" she muttered.
"You mustn't go to waste my dear. Since your head can no longer rejoin with your voluptuous frame, why keep it hidden away as if it were a lost artifact?"
Charlette scoffed. "Typical male."
