Power from the Stars
Based on a suggestion from Manarms

Ever since I discovered the strange glowing pale blue stone, my life was never the same.  Not that the changes it brought about were all bad.  You can even say I was tired of being just another typical college student whose life was, in most instances, in the hands of others.  My instructors controlled my academic life, my boss controlled my paycheck and my girlfriend Sandra controlled the rest.  Sometimes it even felt that I wasn’t even in control of my own dreams.  That kind of stress takes a lot out of a person.

Then came that fateful night.  I was standing on my back porch smoking a cigarette, trying to relax.  Sandra was inside watching “Dawson’s Creek”, a show that I just couldn’t enjoy.  She would constantly bug me about not watching her shows with her, even though she wouldn’t watch the shows that I like with me.

As I stood there daydreaming about the way I would like things to be, you know, winning the lottery and such, a tiny light flashed across the sky.  I’ve seen falling stars before, but this one looked closer than any others I’ve seen.  It even looked like it crashed into the field on the other side of my apartment complex and across the road.

“What the hell,” I thought.  “I have nothing else better to do.  I might as well see if I can find something interesting.”  So I crushed out my cigarette on the sole of my shoe and started walking.  I didn’t worry about Sandra.  I knew that she would be totally engrossed in that damn show for at least another half hour.

As I walked to the field, I began to daydream again.  Thinking that if I found a meteorite, I might be able to sell it to the college’s astronomy department.  Or at least get my picture in the paper, “Student Finds Meteorite”.

The edge of the field was strewn with trash thrown from passing cars.  As I gingerly stepped over an old, flat tire, I noticed a strange pale blue glow from several yards in front of me.  I looked around to make sure that I was alone.  I would really feel stupid if anyone saw me walking around a vacant field in the middle of the night.  Satisfied that I was alone, I slowly made my way toward the strange glow.

As I approached, I noticed that the glow was coming from the center of a crater about a foot deep and four feet across.  The glow was coming from a small pale blue crystal.  I started to reach for it when my mind was filled with thoughts of radiation.  Even though I felt no warmth coming from the crystal, my mind still imagined the worse.  I thought back to the scene in “Creepshow” when Stephen King found a meteorite that turned him into a hideous plant creature.

“Snap out of it,” I said to myself.  “It’s just a piece of rock that fell through Earth’s atmosphere.  The heat and friction from the trip through the atmosphere turning it a pale blue color.  Just pick it up and call the university.”

Tentatively, I touched the stone with my index finger.  Amazingly, it was cool to the touch.  Feeling it was safe I grabbed it and held it up to my face for a closer inspection.  It looked like the center of a geode stone, just a small grouping of pale blue crystals.  Seeing that it was cool to the touch, I figured that it could have been part of a comet.  Comets being made up of frozen ice crystals.

As I held it in my hand, I felt an almost electric sensation.  “Can crystals hold static electricity?” I thought.  I had no idea, but it seemed plausible.  I mean, the friction caused by plummeting through the atmosphere could cause static electricity.  Couldn’t it?

Deciding that I have been standing in the middle of a field for far too long, I started to head back to my apartment and Sandra.  “I hope her show is over,” I thought.  “Because if it isn’t I could be carrying an aircraft carrier in my teeth and she wouldn’t notice.”  So I lit another cigarette and continued to examine the strange crystal.

I entered the apartment to find Sandra sitting on the couch, still watching television.  Fortunately for me, “Dawson’s Creek” was over with and Sandra was looking for something new to watch.  “She’ll probably find a “Beverly Hills 90210” marathon,” I thought.

“Where have you been?” she asked without even looking in my direction.

“I saw a falling star land in the field across the street and decided to take a look,” I explained.  “Where I found this small meteorite.”  I held it out in front of me between my thumb and index finger.

“Looks pretty small to me,” she said coolly.

“You’d be small too if you fell several hundred miles through the Earth’s atmosphere,” I replied.

“Whatever,” she said as she went back to watching television, flipping through the channels rapidly.

“So much for impressing Sandra,” I thought as I went into the kitchen and grabbed a beer.  “Do you want anything?” I asked.

“Yes, bring me a Diet 7-Up,” she replied.  “And put it in a glass with plenty of ice this time.”

Being the compliant person that I am, I did as I was told.  I sat down next to Sandra on the sofa and put my arm around her, trying to get “intimate”.

“Knock it off, would ya,” she said as she leaned away from.  “I’m not in the mood.”

“You’re never in the mood,” I thought to myself.  I didn’t say what I was thinking because I knew that it would only piss her off.

After several minutes of channel surfing, Sandra finally settled on a nature documentary.  Shows about animals are fine, but I just wasn’t in the mood.  I was more interested in drinking some beer and relaxing.

Time, and beers, passed rapidly.  Before I knew it, I had a decent buzz going.  I was about to get another beer, when Sandra said “Don’t you think you’ve had enough?”

“Nope,” was my reply as I got up to get another beer.  I knew that my reply was going to piss Sandra off, but I didn’t care.  I just wanted to escape the reality that was my life.

I was disappointed to realize that I was down to my last beer.  As I pulled it from the fridge, I felt the weight of the meteorite in my pocket slap against my leg.  After I popped the top off my beer, I pulled it from my pocket and stared at it.  The stone glimmered with an inner light that I dismissed as just having too many beers.

I began to daydream again.  I thought back on the times when Sandra would walk around the apartment naked.  The thought of seeing her pert breasts and round ass gave me an erection.  As if in a dream, Sandra’s clothes simply faded away.  Leaving her sitting on the sofa naked.

“I’ve gotta be seein’ things.” I thought to myself.  I closed my eyes and shook my head to clear the image, but when I opened my eyes, she was still naked.

“If I’m dreaming, I might as well enjoy it.”  I then thought back to when we first started dating and Sandra was always horny.  We would have sex all the time and in whatever room we were in at the time.

Just then Sandra stood up and seductively walked over to me.  “You ready for some hot sex?” she asked as she ran her hands over her breasts and stomach.  “I’m soooooo hot,” she moaned.

“This has got to be my lucky day,” I said.  Sandra was naked and looking for sex.

Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed the image of a large orangutan on the television.  And that is when things really went bizarre.

Before my eyes, Sandra’s black hair turned a dark orange color.

“Come on baby, take me now,” she moaned.

Then I noticed that she was getting shorter.  I looked down and realized that she wasn’t shrinking, but her legs were getting shorter.  In the matter of seconds, her shapely long legs were half their original size.

Not only were her legs getting shorter, but also her arms were getting longer.  It didn’t take long before her hands were touching the floor.

“I need you inside me,” she moaned as her hands started massaging her shrunken thighs.

It was hard not to notice that her trimmed black pubic hair was now a dusky orange.  Not only had it changed color, but it had started to spread across her groin. Now, I have no problem with pubic hair, but when it goes from belly button to the tops of her thighs, I have to draw the line.

I lowered my gaze from her growing hair to stare at her feet.  What I saw made me take a step back.  Sandra’s feet were changing too.  Her big toes had lengthened considerably and moved to the middle of her feet.  Thing is, I can’t call them feet anymore, because the look more like misshapen hands.

“What have I done?” I said softly.  My once frigid girl friend was now turning into a horny shaggy ape.

“I need to have you now,” she said as she grabbed my shoulders and forced me on the ground.  The transformation had obviously made Sandra stronger, for it took little effort for her to pin my back to the floor.  She then climbed on top of me.

I stared up at her rapidly changing features.  Her jaw was starting to hang lower on her face and her nose was receding into her new muzzle.  Hair started growing on the sides of her face.

I couldn’t take any more.  I looked down to avert my eyes from a kiss that heading for my face.  Sandra’s simian lips left a sloppy glob of saliva on my left cheek.

“What’s the matter?” she asked as she stood over me.  “I thought you wanted to have wild monkey sex?”

I looked up to discover that Sandra had been changed into a large hairy orangutan.  She was covered in long stringy orange hair.  This is too much.

“Don’t you want to play with my breasts?” she said angrily as her simian hands reached into her shaggy chest hair and pulled out two flattened breasts.  The sight was nothing less than disturbing.

“Don’t you realize what’s happened?” I asked her as I crawled out from beneath her.

“What do you mean?” she asked as she put her hands on her hips, causing her elbows to jut out comically at her sides.

“I mean, you’re an orangutan,” I said softly.

Sandra looked down at herself.  She ran her elongated fingers over her long fur, looked up and screamed.  “What’s happened to me?”

“I don’t know,” I said nervously.  Then I remembered the strange crystal was still in my hand.  I held the crystal up to examine it more closely.  “You don’t suppose the crystal did this, do you?”

“I don’t care how it happened,” she shrieked, “Change me back!”

I was struck with an epiphany.  The crystal transformed Sandra into an orangutan.  Now, I know it wasn’t nice, but I thought about Sandra acting like an orangutan.  Immediately, she got up and ambled over to the sofa.  She hoisted herself up onto the cushion and began to examine her fur for parasites.

I looked at the crystal and said, “So this is what its like to be in control.”  Needless to say, things were very different in my life from then on.
