Brianna here, once more...

There was a question about how we live, our family structure, specifically since our fathers don't live with us, as they're either humans or dolphins. So yes, kids typically live with their mom, but often in a larger community with three to five adults. Each community often includes a traveler or a guardian as well, and their kids are raised by the rest, while they are away. So, what I call sisters, are often not truly sisters.

My best friend, Sheila, who is about half a year older than me, is such a sister. Her mom is a guardian, who only comes home about three times per year, which makes my own mom the happiest. So, Sheila was outside the city at least half a year before me, and she befriended a human girl. That's the same girl that got me my cellphone.

The price I paid her was a little brown jug, filled with a string of pearls. Some of you may smile as I tell you this, and I'll explain in a bit. But basically I hid my payment in a known wreck that the human girl could find and dive to, as it wasn't very deep. That way she could explain where she'd found it and monetize her find. The phone itself is not super, but she keeps sending me numbers, that I can use to add minutes to my account.

She also gave me a phone charger that uses solar power, and guess what, that stuff works perfectly near the light of a lava stream. When I swim I keep it in a zip lock bag (trash that was thrown in the ocean) until I find my small beach, invisible to humans, thanks to a rock overhang.

So yes, the string of pearls. I found it much farther and deeper in the ocean, in quite a large wreck. It is said that years ago, some of my people found a record player in the same wreck, with many records still good. They took it to our city, and it was restored in our dry area.

Yes, most of our cities have a dry area, air trapped in the large cave we live in. We have constructions, hanging down from the ceiling, all the way to water level, where we store precious finds that cannot stay in water. Many, many books that give us a chance to stay in touch with human society and technology. I spent many days in these buildings while still in school. We used wheelchairs to get around, which may seem funny, but it is easier than trying to slide around with our long tails.

Some human mermaids live in these buildings as well. Females mostly (although some males as well who went through gender reassignment), who permanently covered their legs with a tail, and passed a major test that allowed them in our cities. They cannot breathe underwater like us, but they sleep in the dry areas. Many of them are our teachers, and all are thrilled with the knowledge that mermaids are real and thriving.

Why am I telling this? Oh yes, the record player. You have to wind it up with a handle, put a record on, and put a needle on the record, and then music will come out. Wonderful music, my favorite being big bands, hence the reference to some of Glen Miller's songs.

Best of all? With my cellphone I can stream lots of music, although it gets rid of my minutes real quickly. Nina, my human friend, says she can buy me a headset, and it will sound even better. She can upgrade my account, so I have more online time, but she needs some payment again. I have a gold bracelet she loves, and she will keep it herself, as she will use her own savings to upgrade my phone.

Anyway, I gotta go again. Keep sending your questions and comments. I love reading all of them, even though I promised not to reply directly. See you soon!
