The shooting started at the wreck, which was mostly for Quinn, as I helped Wayne with carrying equipment as he and Vera were in scuba diving suits and not very agile. We brought an extra air tank with us, that Quinn and I could sip from, so we didn't have to surface too often. Interestingly enough he also carried what looked like a harpoon gun with him. You never know, he claimed.
Vera was really good at her job I thought, the way she set the scenes, but I was amazed by Quinn, she was just a natural at modeling, and perfect as a mermaid, but that part I knew already of course. We had a lunch of sandwiches when Vera called it a wrap finally.
I did participate in the beach scenes in the afternoon, which were pretty much all above water. We were sunbathing, or sitting up, combing our hair, and I even got to use my hand mirror. There were some erotic scenes as well, and we enjoyed that mostly. I was surprised how often we had to redo a scene that I thought perfect, but I guess that's why Vera was the boss.
There was a bit of time still before dark, not enough for a shoot, but Vera wanted to see the coral fields so she could plan for the next day. It was a relaxing end of the workday as Quinn chatted with Captain John, while holding on to the boat, her tail dangling in the water. I was down with Vera and Wayne, looking for the best spots of coral. She was making a few shots with her camera, probably to see the effect on film, as the camera slipped from her hand.
I saw her quick move, trying to grab the camera, and then I saw blood from her arm mixing with water. She probably cut herself on the sharp coral. Wayne shot out at her to help, before I could even react. Then, from the corner of my eye I saw a flash of teeth and smooth muscles, as a shark, slightly bigger than me, raced at Vera. Wayne saw it too, and I could see him reach for his harpoon gun, but I knew he was too late.
I reacted on instinct, slapping my tail at full force, shooting forward, hitting the shark in his side, just before he could snap at Vera. It took him off course, but he managed to turn around, his full attention now on me. Again, instinct had me torpedoing myself towards the surface having lost all my air in the collision, as I saw Wayne manage to get hold of the gun and launch a harpoon at the shark.
Driven by adrenaline I launched myself completely out of the water. I saw the boat in that three second jump, taking a deep breath, and I saw Quinn's smile turn into horror, as she saw the shark right behind me, trying to bite my tail off. All I could do was swim as fast as I ever had, drawing the shark away from the boat and my friends.
This may sound weird, like a cartoon almost, but apparently I was swimming as fast as a deathly shark, skipping on the water surface, often coming free. I know I was stupid to look back, with those sharp teeth so close, but in a glance I saw a harpoon sticking through the shark's tail. Clearly, enough to slow him down below my own speed, as I slowly put a distance between us.
But I knew this wouldn't last, as I could feel myself tire out, adrenaline the only thing that kept me going. I don't know how long it lasted, probably only minutes, although darkness was setting in quickly. I heard a gigantic growling behind me and when I dared to look back, my attacker was no longer there. Farther back I saw at least three more sharks, apparently attracted by the blood oozing from the harpoon wound, feasting on the injured shark. I did not feel sorry, but on my own last reserves I tried to put as much distance between me and the ferocious sharks.
It was almost dark by now, and I could hardly move on, when I noticed some debris from a wreck or something floating in the ocean. I managed to pull myself onto it, at least upto my tail. I was so exhausted that when the adrenaline flow stopped, my body simply passed out.
I woke up from the first rays of a rising sun. It all came rushing back again when I realized I was on some wooden panel in the middle of the ocean. Looking around me I saw no island, no boat, not any sign of life. I saw pieces of debris, seaweed and even a plastic bottle pass my float, in the direction of the sun, and some warning went off in my head.
The panel I was on was moving towards the sun as well, except it was slowed down by the fluke on my tail still hanging in the water. Somehow there was a strong current going on toward the east, essentially deeper into the ocean and away from the island where I started. I had to get back!
My body however was still tired from the exhaustion last night. And I was thirsty. And what if I left this panel? Would I find something else to sleep on when night came? The decision was fairly simple really. If I stayed on the panel I'd probably no longer be alive by nightfall.
So, I let myself slide back in the water and started swimming south. I had to get out of this fast moving current before I could swim west. I felt like I hardly made progress. Maybe I was slowly moving south, but the constant current moved me farther east as well, away from home.
I needed to find something to eat soon as well. That was not something I had practiced on with Quinn, but I dove under hoping to see a fish. There was not much going on. When I finally spotted a fish about the size of my hand, he was much faster than me. It took a good hour until there was suddenly a school of fish, when I managed to grab one out of hundreds of possibilities.
Catching a fish is one thing, but how do you kill it, and then how do you eat it. I quickly realized I had to accept that I was an animal now, if I wanted to survive. And that meant using my teeth. And eating raw fish.
I had the fish, still very alive, above the water surface, and the lack of air had it slow down a bit. I knew the mask had given me very sharp teeth and that's what I needed now. I bit about five times into the fish before it stopped moving. My bites had opened its skin and I saw blood leaking. Afraid of more sharks I quickly licked the blood away and was rewarded with a relief of my thirst. And when I finally managed to tear off a piece of meat, my initial disgust turned into acceptance.
I didn't like the taste, but it did the job. I got some food in my stomach and the blood satisfied most of my thirst. Floating around like that to eat meant that the current had taken me even further from home. Could I really win this?
Back to swimming south again, with no idea how wide this current was. I felt like the Martian, who had to drive the wrong way for days, just to get around a huge sand storm. The thought actually stimulated me. He had made it home despite a whole world trying to kill him. I was in a much better shape, right?
I saw the sun move all the way to the west, my target. I should eat again before it would get too dark. Plus I needed something to keep my head above water while I slept. I was not lucky fishing until I caught one that was almost dead already. I worried if it was safe to eat, but at least it wasn't a carcas. The blood helped me more than the meat, but I knew I'd be hungry overnight.
I finally got lucky. Saved by our wasteful society. A gallon size water bottle and a two liter one, together with a small piece of wood and some rope, all floating in the current. I managed to tie the bottles together with the piece of wood in-between. A pillow for a mermaid, and I was so tired, I let myself float on my back, with my head between the bottles, and it was enough to keep my face above the water surface. I fell asleep instantly.
Day two in the current wasn't much better. Food was even more urgent while I felt weaker. I had to dive for even the chance to catch a fish, but to do so I had to let go of my "pillow". After every dive I had to swim fast down the current to pickup my lifesaver again, totally going into the wrong direction.
Finally I caught a small fish that I completely devoured. After that I swam south again, but much slower, having less energy, plus the float forced me to stay on the surface, where my tail moves were not as efficient as underwater.
After hours, as the sun was already starting its descend, I caught my largest fish so far, and I killed it in just two hard bites. I could eat twice, maybe three times from it, and I managed to tie it to my float for later consumption, after my initial fill.
I kept swimming now, after dark, as long as I could, as long as the current hit me on my right side, I would be going the right way. When I could finally no longer go, I ate more fish, and waking up in the morning I finished it, so I wouldn't lose hours again just finding breakfast.
Still, I didn't feel well at all. A diet of raw fish and blood was probably not too good for my system. Plus the sun hit me hard, as I was too long on the surface. Retying my rope gave me a bit of slack, so I could swim under the surface, while pulling the float along. I think I got a bit delirious, as I simply could not concentrate on any rational thought anymore. But my body kept swimming, staying underwater as long as possible, but always surfacing in time to take a deep breath. My body had accepted that I was a mermaid now, and swimming, surfacing and breathing had become instinct.
In my delirious state I never realized the current finally had stopped pulling on me, I just kept going, until deep in the next night I put my head down to rest on my float. I had used up all of my reserves and most likely I would never wake up again.
A bump in my back the next morning however did wake me up, and although I tried to ignore it, it was persistent. Eventually I opened my eyes and I saw the snout of a dolphin laughing at me. He had half a fish between his teeth and he seemed to be offering it to me. I could hardly think, but again my body knew it was important, and I took a few bites. Swallowing was hard, so dried out was my mouth and throat, but some of the blood helped. Not sure how much I managed to consume, but I passed out again.
Some time later, again did the dolphin wake me up. This time he offered me something else, and although I had no idea what it was, there were no bones, and it was extremely moist. It saved my life for sure. As I chewed it I could almost drink the moist, and eagerly I swallowed the meat as well, with my throat no longer raw.
Slowly I gained some sense back, and I devoured the rest of what looked like a squid. My body was still too weak to swim, but I noticed I was no longer in the current. For the first time in days I smiled, as I closed my eyes and slept again.
My new friend must have realized I was sick and he kept bringing me food. There was some seaweed and I figured it was like a healthy vegetable, it had an interesting taste but it was way too salty. I stuffed it in one of the bottles though, thinking it would dry perhaps, getting rid of the salt water. After that my hero brought mostly squid, with a meaty fish occasionally. And slowly I started feeling better again.
I named him HeeHaw, based on the sound he made every time he surfaced. I had no clue how long I'd been with my head on my pillow, but when I finally felt strong enough to swim, I saw the dolphin fully for the first time, and I realized I had seen him before. He had a weird scar on his side, just like the dolphin that I had hugged long time ago, when I was swimming with Quinn.
I don't know if the dolphin remembered me as well, but he started swimming westward, and that was the right direction I figured. So I followed him, dragging my pillow, which slowed my weak body even more. I don't think he was in a hurry himself, but at some point he took the rope from me, and took off. There was nothing I could do, he was way too fast even with the float holding him back.
As disappointed as I was about the situation, it gave me extra freedom that I badly needed. I wasn't really consciously thinking this over, but an animalistic survival instinct told me I needed to be able to stay underwater longer, so I could hunt for fish, and my favorite squid was probably deeper, so I had to dive longer and deeper.
So, without that obstacle my swim motion changed to mainly underwater and only surfacing when I needed air. And over the next hours I swam deeper and deeper as well. Somehow my body would move up by itself, without thinking, when I needed air, and I became more efficient in oxygen usage, giving me more time under.
When I started feeling hungry, suddenly HeeHaw was back, and I surfaced to eat the squid he'd brought me. I could get used to this type of "room service". My float was nowhere to be found though, so he must have lost it somewhere.
After I ate he became more intimate and I hugged him back. It wasn't until my arm was around him just in front of his dorsal fin, when he started moving, dragging me along. I managed to get a better grip on him, which made him move faster as well. He took me deeper than I'd ever gone myself, but it was like he knew exactly when I needed air, and we'd surface for five seconds, before plunging deeper again.
It was a thrill. The speed. The power. The depth. The muscles. I enjoyed every second, wishing it would never stop, admiring the strength of his body against mine. And suddenly I felt that flutter again, an attraction I knew by now, all that power and strength in such a gentle package, the way he'd nursed me back to life.
When he slowed down, I kissed him on his head, and in a quick move, while my arm was still around him, we were belly to belly. We both knew what was going on, and my body prepared for him, as I felt a wetness inside me that I last felt with Quinn. It didn't take him time at all, as something slipped inside my slit and in seconds moved into my original body.
Thank God I knew what to expect and I relaxed my muscles as good as I could, as he penetrated me deeper. It wasn't particularly gentle, more urgent, as he started pumping in and out. And once more, my body adapted. I had accepted already that I was a mermaid, more animal perhaps than human, necessary to survive. And now, without any further thought, I accepted that I was female, ready for my man to shoot his load inside me, ready to take care of his needs to procreate, ready to be his mate. His mer-mate.
And although his movement inside me was very pleasurable by now, it was this final conclusion that took me over the edge. My body shuddered, which took him over the edge as well, and he pumped me full with his seed. I couldn't believe the pressure he built up inside me, I could feel my belly swelling, as I pulled him hard into me. That was something non of his mates had ever done to him, and he clearly liked it.
Somehow, while we were mating, he had floated us to the surface, just in time for me to renew my air supply, as I let out a huge moan. He took me back down, as I felt him probing again inside me. And a minute later he came again, this time pulling me with him.
He came four times before he finally pulled out, while my high simply had not stopped. I was exhausted, my still weak body catching up with me. And when we surfaced, there was my pillow float. Apparently this big guy had taken this thing all the way here, before getting back to me, pulling me most of the way. I kissed him again and he twittered happily. I put my head down on my float and fell asleep immediately.
