"Oh, come on, Sierra," Ms. Barclay chuckled, shaking her head. "There's no need to stay cooped up in here all day. I already hired Morgan, so she's going to be here either way. I'm sure you need a grown-up day as much as I do."
"I guess," Sierra agreed, although it was really the news that Morgan was going to be there that made up her mind. Sierra knew she shouldn't judge, and that she'd probably been just as much of a nuisance when she was an early teenager, but the girl was just the worst. She'd tried her best to be patient, but she couldn't help herself, and had, more than once, made the girl leave her, and the twins, alone while they were on the playground.
Sierra wasn't sure if Morgan wanted to prove she was a big kid herself by looking after the boys, or if she thought they were cute kids, which they were, or if she thought Sierra was a cool older girl who she wanted to impress. She probably had good motives at heart, but Sierra had enough to deal with keeping up with the twins. She couldn't also babysit some young, lonely teen. She'd tried suggesting the girl go hang out with some other kids her age, when Sierra saw some around, but Morgan never wanted to take her up on it, insisting on sticking near her.
The first time she'd called Morgan a brat, it had slipped out, and she almost apologized, until she saw how much the girl really did dislike it. It was mean of her, as the adult in the situation, to keep exploiting that, but it was a foolproof way to send her stomping off, pouting.
"Wonderful!" Ms. Barclay exclaimed, beaming. "We're going to have the best time! Now, would you prefer to drive, or should I?"
Sierra squirmed, trying to hide her blush. When she'd taken this job, nannying Ms. Barclay's twin boys, she'd claimed she knew how to drive, afraid if she admitted the truth, she wouldn't be hired. Going to witch school, driver's education hadn't been a part of the curriculum, although, if anything had happened, she could have used her magic to help the boys, or get them to a hospital if she didn't trust herself, so it was fine.
"Wh-Why don't you?" Sierra suggested. "I-I haven't driven your car before, so I wouldn't really feel comfortable..."
"Of course," Ms. Barclay nodded. "No problem, dear, I don't mind, I just wanted to make sure you didn't want to."
"N-No, you can do it," Sierra said, relieved. "Oh, but I don't have a swimsuit."
"You don't?" Ms. Barclay asked, surprised.
"No," Sierra shook her head. "I was going to get one when I first took the job, so I could take the boys out to the beach sometime to splash around. I forgot to do it then, so I thought I'd get one whenever I took them, but we haven't gone yet."
"Well, we'll just have to stop and get you something, then," Ms. Barclay told her. "There are plenty of shops around there, don't worry."
Sierra wasn't concerned she wouldn't have options, although the idea of trying on swimsuit after swimsuit in front of the older, taller, and far more well-endowed woman wasn't exactly how she wanted to spend part of her day. She didn't really have a choice, though, unless she summoned a swimsuit out of nowhere with a spell, which, after telling the woman the truth, would have been suspicious, to say the least.
As it turned out, she shouldn't have been anxious, since after only a few minutes in the car, she'd fallen right to sleep, drifting off as she watched the scenery whiz by outside her window, and waking up when Ms. Barclay gently shook her, the girl's eyes slowly opening to the sight of the beach, rather than the quiet neighborhood she'd last seen.
"Sorry," Ms. Barclay apologized. "You must have really needed your rest. I guess the twins tired you out yesterday, huh? Don't worry, I picked something out for you, because I didn't have the heart to wake you up to go shopping."
"Oh," Sierra nodded groggily, blushing as she wiped the drool from her mouth. "Umm, thanks."
She wasn't sure what to expect, although it definitely wasn't what she pulled out of the bag Ms. Barclay handed her in the changing room. She'd been worried the woman would get her something too skimpy and revealing, assuming that was what she'd like, at her age. Instead, she'd been given a pink, frilly tankini, one that Sierra knew, before even looking at the tag, was from the kids' department.
She didn't hate it. It was cute, definitely, and she felt more comfortable in something that style than a traditional bikini, but it was a little strange that it was what Ms. Barclay had chosen for her. Then again, if she had been awake, she probably wouldn't have chosen it for herself with the woman watching, so maybe it had all worked out for the best.
"Adorable!" Ms. Barclay declared, once she came out in her bikini, looking much more than 'adorable' herself. "I thought it looked like it would fit. They didn't really have a lot of options for someone your size, so I hope you like it." She reached out, toying with the frills on the bottom of Sierra's top, smiling absently. "Sometimes I wish I'd had a little girl, too," she said. "I love the twins, but it would be nice to have someone to dress up like this all the time."
Sierra wasn't really sure what to say to that, but, fortunately, it turned out Ms. Barclay wasn't finished talking. "Now, I got you something else, too," she said. "I didn't put it with your suit because I was afraid you'd get upset, so I wanted to explain."
"No!" Sierra whined, stomping her flip-flopped foot as soon as the woman pulled the package out of her bag, recognizing them instantly, despite the twins having been out of them since before Sierra had started looking after them. There was a decent chance Sierra had been in them more recently than them, although she tried not to think about that.
"Sierra," Ms. Barclay scolded, her tone quickly slipping into the one she used with her sons when they misbehaved, "I told you, let me explain. You can't swim, can you?"
"Wh-What?" Sierra blushed. "O-Of course I can."
"Sierra," Ms. Barclay crossed her arms, staring down at Sierra. "Are you lying to me? You've never brought the boys here, or to the pool, and you don't even have a swimsuit. That feels awfully suspicious to me for a girl your age, unless..."
"Fine," Sierra sighed, seeing there was no point pushing the lie. "But that doesn't mean I need..."
"I was going to tell you I only got these because they'd encourage you to stay out of the water, so I don't have to keep an eye on you constantly. I don't want you trying to show off for some boy and doing anything stupid. But, since you fibbed, I guess I'll tell you the whole truth. Since you've moved in, and started working for me, the twins have suddenly started going through more Pull-Ups than they used to, which is very strange, since their potty training only keeps getting better."
Sierra's face turned bright red. "Wh-What are you saying?" she asked, as if she didn't know.
"I'm starting to have my doubts as to whether or not you're completely qualified to be potty training anyone," Ms. Barclay told her. "Maybe it's my fault. When I interviewed you, I didn't think to ask if you were potty trained yourself. I didn't think I had to, but apparently that was a mistake."
"I am potty trained!" Sierra insisted. "I-I don't need..." She couldn't bring herself to say it, even staring at the package in her employer's hands.
"I hope that's true," Ms. Barclay said. "You did take a nap in my car without having an accident. Or one I could see, anyway. I guess I don't really know what was going on under your shorts. I'll tell you what, Sierra, if you show me the panties you were wearing, and they're totally dry, then I'll forget all about these." She gave the diapers a crinkly squeeze.
Unfortunately, Sierra couldn't do that. Ms. Barclay was right in her suspicions. Sierra had thought she was being frugal enough that she'd escape the woman's notice, generally only needing one Pull-Up a day, unless things with the twins got especially crazy, and there wasn't time for her to run to the bathroom herself, but apparently even that had been more obvious than she'd expected. She had dribbled some during her little nap, and from more than her mouth. She'd thrown her Pull-Up away, and had another waiting and her bag to go home, though if she showed that to Ms. Barclay, it would prove her point anyway, dry or not.
"Here," Ms. Barclay ripped the package open, handing a diaper over when Sierra didn't answer. "Put it on, or I'll do it for you. I don't want you embarrassing me by having an accident while you're running around on the beach."
"I won't," Sierra pouted, but she could tell that wasn't good enough. With a sigh, she did as she was told, only to find, to her horror, "They're too big!"
She tugged at her swimsuit bottoms, trying to force them to go up high enough to cover the top of her diaper. The diaper's waistband was visible, part of the landing strip, the top of the tapes, definitely enough that anybody who had seen one before would know exactly what she was wearing. There was no way she could go out onto the beach like this!
"It's fine," Ms. Barclay insisted. "I doubt anyone will be looking too closely at you anyway."
Sierra doubted the woman meant it as an insult, or a confirmation that, especially with the style of swimsuit she was in, she looked more like a kid than the young woman she really was, but it was hard not to take it that way, especially when she was wearing a diaper. "I don't need this!" Sierra stomped her foot.
"I certainly hope not," Ms. Barclay told her. "I'd hate to have to keep my nanny diapered while the children she's supposed to be looking after are almost in big kid undies. Just keep it completely dry, and we won't have to speak about this again."
Sierra whimpered, trying to hide behind her employer as she was dragged out of the changing room, outside, among everyone else, back to the car to pull the beach chair and umbrella out of the trunk. She was too worried about being seen to fully process it until Ms. Barclay had found their spot and set everything up, but there was only one.
"D-Don't I have somewhere to sit?" she asked, staring at the single chair.
"I have a blanket," Ms. Barclay offered. "I'm sorry, dear, I didn't think to grab another chair. There might be a folding one in the trunk, though, if that would be better."
"I guess," Sierra shrugged. Just sitting on the beach blanket felt very childish to her, especially while her companion was spread out, showing off her body and working on her already impressive tan. At least in a real chair, she might feel slightly less silly, and could possibly hide her diaper a little better depending on how she sat.
Unfortunately, Ms. Barclay was wrong. "I guess I took it out," she shrugged, staring into the trunk. "I did grab these, though." She picked up the little plastic bucket Sierra always brought with her when she was taking the twins to the playground. It was great for the sandbox, with a couple buckets and shovels, and even a rake, so the two of them could make sand castles together. "I wasn't thinking, I just threw it in. I'm used to having the boys with me. You can use it if you want."
"No!" Sierra shook her head, blushing. She wasn't going to spend her time at the beach, on her supposed grown-up day with Ms. Barclay, making sand castles!
"Well, what else are you going to do?" the woman asked. "Did you bring a book?" Sierra shook her head. "Do you want to tan?" Sierra shook her head again. Even if she had a chair to lie down and do it in, that meant giving in and letting everyone see her diaper! "You definitely aren't going to be swimming, since you don't know how," Ms. Barclay continued. "Go on, take it with you. It could be fun!"
Reluctantly, Sierra grabbed the handle of the biggest bucket, picking up it, and everything else inside it, knowing that, at least on the way back to their spot, she was going to look like a silly little toddler, ready to enjoy her day by the ocean. If she'd known this was what it was going to be like, she would have stayed home and dealt with Morgan!
Their spot wasn't too bad to begin with, but it didn't take long for more and more people to start setting up around them, each one making Sierra more anxious as she squirmed on her blanket, listening to her diaper crinkle beneath her, positive they all saw it. Ms. Barclay didn't seem to notice, or mind, the crowd, just pouring herself another glass of wine from the cooler as Sierra asked, "Can we move somewhere else?"
"I like it here," the woman told her. "And it would be too much work. If you want to see more of the beach, go on. You're a big girl, aren't you? You don't have to stay right by my side. Just stay out of the water, and stay dry, and you'll be fine."
Finally, when a pair of college girls set up right next to them, and kept glancing over at what Sierra assumed must be her diaper and giggling, Sierra decided to do just that. There had to be somewhere more private she could hang out! "I'm gonna go look around," she told the woman, standing up, immediately tugging at her suit to try and hide as much of the diaper as possible.
"All right," Ms. Barclay smiled dismissively. "Don't forget your little bucket!"
"That isn't mine," Sierra blushed, hearing more giggling from beside them.
"Well, I don't need it," the woman shrugged. "You might as well take it, Sierra. Maybe you'll find a little friend to play with."
"Fine," Sierra grabbed it, just wanting the conversation to stop. She hurried past the college girls, and everyone else that had staked their claim around Ms. Barclay's chair, and headed for the quietest spot she could find to ride out the rest of the day.
Or, at least, that was her intention. She found a nice, secluded cove that wasn't too far from the parking lot, and dumped the bucket out, turning the biggest one upside down to sit on it, letting the waves lap up over her feet, kicking off her flip-flops to dig her toes into the sand. She still couldn't believe Ms. Barclay had found out about the Pull-Ups. It was probably going to happen soon enough, once they boys inevitably didn't need them any more, and Sierra had to either risk big girl undies herself, or figure out something different, but she'd thought she had more time to figure it out.
"It'll be okay," she told herself, picking up one of the shovels, digging absent-mindedly at the sand in front of her. All she needed was one good day today. If she proved it really hadn't been her using the extra Pull-Ups, by not having any accidents, or getting her diaper wet otherwise, she'd just have to buy herself some Goodnites or something.
And there was no reason her diaper would get wet. She was up on the bucket, far away from the ocean, and she didn't really need the Pull-Ups anyway, they were for just in case. It would be embarrassing to toddle into the bathroom on her own, with her diaper showing, but that was better than peeing her pants.
"Hey," she frowned, glancing down, feeling something moving beneath her. She couldn't figure out what it was at first, although, by the time she saw nothing strange was happening with her feet, she realized it wasn't coming from there at all, but from under her padded posterior. Right about the time she discovered that, she fell, splashing down onto the sand.
