Jay slipped into his room, having evaded the chaos on campus a second day. He'd avoided subliminal messages on posters slapped up, plugged his ears as efforts to play hypnotic music rang out from cellphone speakers, dodged the eyes of people testing out their gazes. Sometimes going to a Magitech college was a real pain, and 'Hypnovember' was one of those months.
In fact, this morning Jeff had claimed he already had Jay under, snapped his fingers... but nothing happened. Well, except that Nick, their other room-mate, was put into a trance.
"Oops, wrong guy, my dude," Jay had laughed. He'd found the little speaker hidden trying to play subliminal crap so easily, and slipped it into Nick's room instead.
"Whatever, Jay, I can work with this, now I have Nick on my side, right, Nick?"
"Yes, Master."
Still, he'd made it it another day. Two down, twenty eight to go. All he had to do tonight was chill out, relax, and stay away from the mages and tech geeks trying to make him dance like a chicken for their weird little game. And speaking of game, he figured he had time for a quick couple of games of Mario Kart before he needed to deal with homework. He picked up his Switch and flicked on the power...
...And as soon as the finger-snap noise of the startup screen played, his eyes glazed over. A moment later, his door creaked open, Jeff and Nick now standing there.
"...Hah, got him!" Jeff smirked.
"Nice plan using that sound as his trigger, master," Nick said.
"Well, you're just saying that because you're in my complete control but thanks. Really, he played right into my hands, taking the decoy speaker into your room. Now, Jay, are you ready to obey me? I need two puppets to get my revenge on Dave for last year..."
Jay nodded, and stood from his bed, the games console abandoned.
