Luke, James, and Charlie ran down the street cackling as another house with no candy had been successfully egged and tp'd. The trio of teen boys had plenty more for other stingy houses, but preferred to put some distance between them.
"Man, that old dude was ready to explode!" Luke said between laughter.
Currently dressed as a scarecrow, his own blond hair served well enough to be straw, his green eyes hidden below a cloth-sack mask.
"Yeah, his face was puffed up like a balloon!" James agreed.
He was a vampire, pale face paint and slicked back ginger hair, and contacts in that turned his whole eyes a red tint, his brown irises now looking black.
"Let's see if there's anyone on this street... Oh, hey, no lights there. Guess we'll have to come back and show 'em they need to be in on Halloween to hand out treats..." Charlie cackled.
The brown haired and blue eyed boy was dressed up as a werewolf for his costume, wearing a mask with snarling teeth as well as a grey furry suit all over, fake tail hanging from the back.
The three knocked on some other houses to claim some candy, and since no others had declined, only the empty house was deserving of 'justice'.
"Alright, boys get your eggs and paper ready. We're gonna redecorate while the owner is out..." Luke grinned.
But as the three went in the gate of the seemingly empty property, the angry hissing of a cat came from the shadows, followed by a black cat dashing towards the house. Moments later, the door opened and light flooded out, illuminating the three boys with eggs and rolls of paper in hand
"Uh... Trick or treat?" Charlie said nervously as a tall woman emerged.
"What did you do to my cat, and what do you plan to do with those?"
"We just startled your cat, lady! As for what we were gonna do..." James said, tossing an egg to finish off.
The other two boys protested his impetuous action, but fell silent when the woman raised a hand, making the egg halt in mid-air.
"Ah, I see. Well, it's a shame you threw that egg, because I have a trick and some treats. Three life sized candy statues. A giant strawberry vampire sucker. A banana candy scarecrow. A chocolate werewolf..."
"T-That's kind of a coincidence isn't it...." Luke said nervously, looking at the floating egg.
"Oh, not really. That's the trick."
With a snap of her fingers the three teens found their bodies freezing in place, and an odd sensation of tingling all over. Luke's skin shifted into a pale shimmering yellow, as did his clothes and hair. James turned a reddish colour all over, turning slightly transparent. Charlie meanwhile shifted into a literal chocolate brown all over. The three has their noses flooded with sweet scents of banana, strawberry, chocolate. Their own scents, for they were now statues of those materials. Or rather, golems, for the three realised they could now move. They stared at their hands, and their candy mouths opened wide in silent cries of terror.
"And the treats! Here's the rules, boys. You have until midnight and then sadly you three sweet things will be back to your ugly selves. All you have to do is evade every other trick or treater. Because they're going to be entranced into chasing you when they lay eyes on such a big haul of candy. They won't care it will try and run away. All they'll want is candy. And if they catch you, well, you'll never move again and they hit the jackpot."
Candy eyes looked at her in horror, silent pleas for mercy unheard.
"You have a few minutes before any other candy seekers will see you, I bet. So best start moving. Oh, and don't think about hiding. If no human sees you for five minutes you'll lose control of your bodies and start moving to the nearest group in costumes. Good luck, and if I don't see you next year, well, let's hope whoever got you didn't give themselves a stomachache overindulging. Happy Halloween, boys!" She grinned, closing the door.
The trio looked at each other, minds racing but candy throats unable to say a word. James looked around and saw a stick, about to write something in the dirt, when they heard voices. Laughing, giggling, talking about candy. They looked down the street, as half a dozen kids approached.
And as they looked up, they fell silent, eyes turning blank, and then advancing on the transformed trio, practically drooling.
James scrawled one word in the dirt and immediately took his own advice:
'RUN'
Luke and Charlie did the same, candy feet pounding the pavement as the chase began....
