Kari awoke with a groan, head feeling fuzzy... and realising she was in a strange dark place. Now thirty-seven, she'd been enjoying the peaceful nature of the Digital World these days, far removed from her childhood almost thirty years before...
...Gatomon. She and her partner had been in the forest, when she saw a light.
"Gatomon? Are you here?" She called out as memories came back
Bright, purple, and practically hypnotic. No, literally hypnotic. She recalled her mind blanking as the light became swirling, a maelstrom of pink and purple, beckoning her. She walked forward dreamlike... Soft pawsteps beside her...
'It must have affected her too... ' She realised, and noted a few other missing objects.
No digivice. No d-terminal. No phone. And... no shoes? No socks? She was barefoot, but why?
'The ground here doesn't seem rough. I could probably walk on it so that's not why,' she concluded.
Well, wherever she was, she wasn't tied up, and rather than wait around she should try find Gatomon, and a way out... or whatever was going on at least.
But her wandering after ten minutes bore little fruit. All she could tell was this seemed to be a dimly lit cave system. Her eyes were adjusting a little but the place was gloomy and no sources of light bar some odd purple glow from the walls were around. And that meant she had moved with caution, and largely relying on sound.
Which, wasn't much. The place was quiet as well. Just a distant odd rushing noise, like a waterfall, but.. Squelchier?
Still, there was no sign of anything or anyone else.
'Why hypnotise someone to dump them in a cave though? And who? What are they-'
Her bare foot squelched into something slimy, making the woman flinch. She looked down and there seemed to be some kind of gooey ooze under her foot. It might have been purple itself or just tinted that way by the little light given from the odd rocks, but...
Then it crackled, sparked, and flowed up her leg.
"Aagh!" She cried out in surprise as it began spreading all across her body, splitting and flowing....
It raced up her leg as she felt herself freezing, but let out one last shout.
"Gatomon! Help if you can hear me!"
The goo and crackling power reached her neck where it split. Heading to her ears, with another burst of lightning, it flowed into her shocked mind and made her give a gasp of pleasure instead.
Brown eyes dimmed, and then swirls of pink and purple flowed into them, hazel obliterated by fuchsia and violet.
She stood stiff a moment until she moved her other foot, landing into the ooze. There she stood, letting that little patch help ensure that any difference between Digimon and Human minds had plenty of time to be overcome, until a monotone voice gave orders...
"March forward, Human. March deeper..."
She walked forward, and her bare feet entered a larger and fresher patch of ooze. Shadows around her moved, glowing violet eyes watching the human step into the source of power.
More goo, more energy... it flowed up her body, into her mind, and completed the job for sure. The presence in her mind was vast, almost crushing. But she stood there like a statue, eyes swirling in a storm of the pink and purple. They span lazily at first, but grew in intensity until they were like a hurricane, whirling and whooshing.
She felt a voice urge her to give in...
"I... embrace..."
The voice urged her to erase her old life.
"I... erase..."
The voice urged her to join the unity.
"I... I.... I join the Unity...."
The voice urged her to expand her mind, evolve it.
"I... evolve... expand my mind... expand our mind..."
The voice urged surrender and submission.
"I... we... surrender..."
Her mind began to fade away. Her life began changing. She had a master now...
Her eyes glowed bright, shifting pure white until they closed. The light faded, until after a moment, eyelids reopened and bright purple poured forth.
She had reached and passed the point of no return. She was part of the Unity...
"Thank you, Master. Thank you for bringing me to freedom from my old life," She said in a flat tone.
And then the shadows shifted, and glowing purple eyes emerged, two more pairs. Canewomon and Magnadramon.
"Welcome, newcomer. Welcome, human. You have proven that the human mind too can break to the power. That the human too shall join the Unity," Canewomon said.
"The Gatomon is being converted as we speak, to join us. But you, human, have another task," MagnaDramon said.
"What is it, my master?"
The pink dragon anthro handed over a small device. The D-Terminal.
"Select another human. They will be brought here. They will be brought into the fold. They shall be part of the Unity, and you and they shall be one. They shall be your lover, as I am MagnaDramon's and MagnaDramon is mine..." Canewomon said.
The golden furred spellcaster looked to the human, standing there before them.
"Choose with wisdom, new one. And choose well..."
Kari took the device, and her old mind was referenced. An ideal candidate came to mind... Purple hair, glasses...
"Yolei," she said in the flat monotone.
The description and vision of the target was spread amongst the Unity. The two Digimon nodded in agreement.
"Yes, she appears fitting. She will make a fine second human to our numbers," Canewomon said.
"I agree, my love. Go forth, Human. Bring her to us. Bring her to your side. Bring her to our Unity," MagnaDramon urged.
And so, eyes glowing in purple and pink, mind altered to be one with the Unity, the woman that had been Kari set out to bring a second human into the fold. She would find the other woman, bring her here, and let her join. Let the energy flow, let Yolei's eyes shine with the sweet release as she was freed from her old life.
And then they and the rest of the Unity would expand more.
