Takeru and Hikari, in the stone forms of a Magnamon and UlforceVeedramon, had been standing for... they weren't sure. Maybe a week?

There wasn't much frame of reference in their current positions. And not much to do either. Boredom had set in long ago. Takeru was somewhat worried her might be going a little mad.

'Nah, you're fine.' Takeru told him.

'Don't listen to him, you've gone nuts already!' Takeru countered.

'Both of you shut up, I'm trying to think.' Takeru yelled.

Takeru really wished they'd stop arguing, it was worse than the boredom.

Hikari was slightly saner.

'I wonder what Takeru's thinking?

'I wonder when they'll be back?

'I wonder if duck's quacks really don't echo?

It had in fact only been five days, and it was another day later when the two actual Digimon meant to stand guard returned.

UlforceVeedramon and Magnamon walked in, the former carrying a small stuffed goat, a plastic shrubbery, a bowling ball, and a bag of gold coins.

"-just saying, you agreed to this sidequest too, they have to finish it!" UlforceVeedramon said.

"Oh, good plan, two humans they've never seen before go back to that village with the stuff they asked us to get! What on earth is this even for?" Magnamon sighed.

"You took the quest!"

"And you took the other seventeen! Let's just turn these humans back so they can get on with their lives."

"Fine. So, just touch 'em and they turn back human?"

"Should be," Magnamonsaid.

They did so, the statues starting to glow, and return to life... but not as humans.

"...They're still Digimon."

"Yeah, we are, and so's Hikari!" Takeru sighed.

"...What?" Hikari asked.

"What?"

"Who's we?"

"Oh, uh... never mind. How long were we here? And by we I mean Hikari and u... I."

"...You okay?"

"Well, it took us about five days, I'm afraid. Tough fight!" UlforceVeedramon said.

"...It only took half an hour, you got us sidetracked," Magnamon muttered.

"Shut up! Also why aren't you human again?"

"Kinda hoped you knew?" Takeru said.

"Ah. Not a clue. Still, that solves the problem, Magnamon! They can finish our quest, and then Gennai can fix it!"

"...Quest?"

Magnamon explained to the pair, who were a little displeased.

"What's this even for?" Takeru wondered.

"The whims of questgivers are mysterious," UlforceVeedramon said.

"Alright, we'll do this. Where are all our friends?" Hikari said.

"Oh, we left them all at Gennai's house, you should head there once you're done. Any questions?" Magnamon said.

"Actually..." Hikari began.

They took the items, as the two real Digimon resumed their duty in stone.

"...Uh, problem, how do we get to that village from here? Or to Gennai's house?" Takeru realised, relatively sure he wasn't having any more arguments with himself.

Hikari considered this.

"...Ah, crap. Magnamon might have been able to answer that one."

"Huh. Guess we need to find someone else and ask then."

"Yeah, maybe one of them knows if a duck's quack echoes or not."

"I meant directions but yeah, that's bothering me too now..."

The pair began walking, to... they had no idea where, in search of their quest ending, and an answer to a vital question.

(They do, it's just too quiet to really be heard by human ears in most cases)
