Jabba the Hutt was a powerful crime lord, even for a Hutt. His palace was adorned with some of the finest riches money - or theft- could obtain. Even the riches of Imperial Centre (or Coruscant to those making a small gesture of defiance against the Empire) paled in comparison sometimes.
Especially one of his latest acquisitions....
Jabba leered as Oola danced, seeing that the Twi'Lek slave was performing well. But he knew she was defiant, and he was looking for an excuse. He had a new favourite toy, and though some of his sycophants and hangers-on seemed to still prefer the Rancor, he did not intend to feed the beast with slaves. Not slave women, anyway.
"Come Closer..."
He tugged on the chain. As expected, she protested.
"No, I won't! I'd rather die than do this any more!"
"Fool!"
He reached down, and pressed a button. Too late, Oola remembered her collar, screaming in fear as it glowed, and then she was silenced.
"Oh my..." C-3PO said nervously, glancing from the carbonite-encased form of Han Solo to the fate of Oola.
The jeering from the crowd was interrupted by a gunshot, and C-3PO knew that the rest of the plan was underway as Princess Leia, disguised as the Bounty Hunter Boushh, brought Chewbacca into the chamber.
Leia, for her part, was thankful she was disguised. Her reaction seeing Han would have been enough, but she barely managed to avoid gasping at the sight of Oola.
Eventually, after aggressive negotiations with the aid of a thermal detonator, a bounty on Chewbacca was agreed. 'Boushh' remained in the palace, awaiting 'his' money, but worked over to C-3PO.
"What happened to her?" Leia whispered.
"It's Jabba's newest method of punishing his slaves. He had collars developed with nanites in them, holding small amounts of a golden form of Carbonite. At a push of the button they spray the nanites onto the skin and freeze them in seconds. He's apparently collecting a fair few, but his rancor is now even hungrier as a result," C-3PO said.
Leia simply stared at the encased form of Oola, frozen into a statue of gleaming golden carbonite. Frost and ice was still pouring from her, the quick-chill of the carbon freezing having hit hard.
"Is she dead?"
"Not yet, but after a few hours the body is beyond any medical help. If a victim is thawed quickly, they may live... if they have access to a skilled medi-droid or an advanced bacta tank."
"It's too late for her then, we'd have no way to thaw her without putting everything at risk," Leia sighed.
"I'm afraid so."
"And I thought becoming one of Jabba's slaves was the worst that could happen if I get caught...."
