Of all the ways the world as it was could have ended, it had certainly seemed the least likely. No one had time to find out how or why it happened, it spread so fast. The streets of towns and cities became desolate, life ending to be replaced with the shuffling hordes.
Handfuls of survivors picked through the ruins of the recently fallen society, dwindling in number daily. Nothing stopped them, it seemed. Nothing could resist them in the end...
Rebecca and Penny had been college students and room-mates just weeks before. They'd seen many of their friends and family claimed by the hordes. They knew they were doomed at some point, but they had no plans to make it easy.
"It looks clear," Penny said as she looked down the street.
Cars littered the area, doors yanked open as the occupants had no chance. The two carefully moved over to one, looking through it.
"Hey, that cop car, that shotgun looks loaded," Rebecca noted.
"Guns don't help. They just get back up, Rebecca."
"I know they don't help against them, but there are still feral dogs and things. And if we leave the city, what about bears and stuff?"
"Leave it, a loud bang like that will draw them in. They're everywhere now," Penny warned.
"Okay, fine, but we might regret it..."
"FREEZE!"
"...Like now," Rebecca sighed as a deranged-looking man held a pistol up.
"Alright you pair of mindless freaks, you're not taking me! Stay back!"
"...We're not them, moron! Do we look like them? Do we sound like them?" Penny shouted back.
"Both of you be quiet, they'll hear!" Rebecca screeched.
...Then came another screech, a high-pitched noise echoing around the city.
"Eeeee"
"Great, now we're screwed, thanks, jerk!" Penny fumed at the man as they began pouring down the other end of the street.
"Just run!" Rebecca said.
The man began firing at the horde as it descended.
"You're not taking me! You're not taking me... Aaagh!"
They mobbed him, a massive pile of bodies on top of him, as the horde surged past, chasing down the other two.
"Don't look back, they can hypnotise you!" Penny reminded.
"I wasn't going to!"
The pile disintegrated, and from where the man once was, stood another creature. Now feminine in shape, with rabbit ears and a brightly coloured pink leotard featuring a rabbit tail.
The loud crazed man had become one of the Bunnygirls.
"Why did we have to get such a ridiculous end of the world anyway, couldn't we have just had zombies?!" Penny complained in the distance.
