Zidane's life at Alexandria Castle as the Prince Consort was not by any means a bad one. It was a stable enough life, he had a beautiful and wonderful wife, and Alexandrians generally expected the spouse of their monarch to be somewhat crazy. Or 'Eccentric', as Garnet insisted, as the difference between the two was the amount of money one could spend on lawyers to argue otherwise - or the amount of laws one could make to argue otherwise, in his case....
If it were not for the lack of any male heir to the throne at this point, or for the minimum ten year age gap that would exist amongst other things, it was likely Eiko, Princess of Lindblum, would tick all the 'eccentricity' boxes for a possible future spouse-of-a-Monarch. Or perhaps the assessment of 'bratty' and 'impulsive' was more applicable.
As he, Garnet, and General Beatrix searched a dungeon he'd not known about until now, a dungeon she'd apparently went exploring in, bratty and impulsive seemed very applicable.
"Who even told her we had hidden dungeons?!" Zidane wondered.
"She might have found a map, in the library," Garnet said
"...What?"
"The Library, that place you never go?"
"I'll stick to my private library, Dagger, and what is wrong with you, Beatrix?!"
The General had began coughing.
"Oh, er, the... dust you kicked up, Your Highness..."
"I know I don't kick up dust when I move, and you only ever call me that when... Well, when you're trying to avoid something!"
"I think she was amused by the phrasing you selected, Zidane," Garnet said.
"Oh. The private library thing? What's so amusing about comic books? Because two things for what you were thinking. One, I'd call secret porn a stash, and two, I don't need it for obvious reasons. In fact I never have!"
"Ruby says otherwise," Garnet stage-whispered.
"As amusing as all this is, Your Majesty, I have to wonder why you insisted that only we should look in these dungeons... and I honestly have to ask, why even I didn't seem to know about them..."
Garnet sighed.
"Because some dirty secrets of my family are sealed away here."
"The three-armed great-great-great-grand-uncle? Your secret half-brother who had tentacles for arms? The fifth cousin twice removed that made creepy little clay models of people and named them all Simon?"
"No! And that last one was a fourth cousin, Zidane! And they're... dirtier secrets than that."
"Holy crap, you mean there really is a Royal BDSM dungeon?! Do we have a Gimp?"
"Wait a minute, that door there, it's open," Beatrix pointed.
"Oh no, not that room!" Garnet shrieked and rushed ahead.
"Wait, what's so bad about that room?"
"Never mind, follow her!" Zidane said.
In the Heptadecagonal room, they found Eiko, and a number of murals on the walls. Sixteen, to be exact.
"Oops, rumbled," the ten-year-old Lindblumian (adopted) Princess said as the trio entered.
"Eiko, you cannot be down here. Just come back upstairs, ask no questions about this room, and I promise that nothing will happen, understand?"
"...What's so bad about this room?" Zidane wondered, looking at the murals. They looked like they were full of various animals... Chocobos, Moogles...
"That goes for you two as well!" Garnet snapped.
"Uh, Garnet, you're kind of acting crazy here. What's so scary about this place anyway? It kinda reminds me of the Eidolon Wall..." Eiko said.
"I said no questions!"
"With all due respect, Your Majesty, that kind of statement is more likely to induce questions in these two," Beatrix sighed.
"Well, I'll explain upstairs if you pledge to come with me and never come to this place ever again! And also get away from that one that's starting to gl...oh. OH CRA-"
The door slammed shut, as lines of energy began spreading around the tiles of the floor.
"Uh, is this why this room is so bad?" Zidane asked.
"Yes!" Garnet said, before the whole room was full of light, and then suddenly, they were in another place.
"Ow, what the heck was that, Garnet?!" Eiko groaned, and tried to stand up, only to discover she now had four legs.
"Wh...Wha?! Some kind of transformation? What have we become?!" Beatrix worried.
"And why can we talk normally?!" Zidane managed to say whilst worrying about where his fingers had gone, and why his tail now felt a lot shorter in the muscle department.
Garnet, also four-legged, studied the other three former humanoids, now equinoids. She had but one thing to say immediately.
"Oh, thank gods, this one isn't full of bears like the one I went to..."
