If the water of the lake could speak or think, it would ponder what made the woman with writhing hair approach it so nervously.
Of course, as water, it had no idea what women, hair, or writhing were. Or nervousness.
"Okay... If I keep my eyes closed I'm okay but if I lean too far I fall in and I can't swim..." She muttered.
The water would wonder why her eyes had to remain closed if it could think, or knew what eyes were.
It would also wonder why she leaned down trembling and put a hand into it, scooping out some of the liquid it was made of.
"Keep them closed... Keep them closed..."
It would wonder why she scooped up a fish.
"Aaaagh!"
It would wonder why she screamed, but of course, it did not know what a fish was, or what screaming was.
"Stupid fish! I should open my eyes and turn you into a pebble!"
At this point, if it could get into such a state, the water would be very confused by all these words it did not know of.
"Okay... No more fish and I'm still thirsty..."
The water would have given up trying to understand at this point if it could.
"...Okay. All done! And not a statue! Ha, take that, reflective surfaces!"
The water would be offended if it could be, but it would also have stopped caring. It wouldn't have cared that the woman with her writhing snake hair was doing a silly dance as she left. It also would have refused to point out if the woman brought a bottle or something, she wouldn't have to do this every singe time she came here...
But since it was only water and couldn't do any of those things it did not.
