During lunch break, in a classroom in Tomoeda, a blond ten year old boy had an epiphany.

"Sakura, I'm not sure if this is unusual to you at all, but have you noticed that Tomoeda Elementary seems to have a lot of field trips and school events?"

Sakura looked over at her cousin with confusion.

"...Now you mention it, Takeru, there have been more than usual this year..."

The blond nodded.

"And what always seems to happen on these trips or at any sort of school event?"

"...Cards?"

"Not every trip! There was the... Oh, no, wait, the Watery was there..."

Sakura began thinking of trips in which she had forgotten the presence of cards.

"Um, Tomoyo, can you think of any school trips we went on that didn't have some sort of Clow Card involved?"

Sakura's friend pondered this.

"...There was that visit to the Computer Science Fair in Tokyo... Oh, but then there were all those Digimon inside the computers, weren't there?"

Sakura however was taking it as a win.

"Ha! See, that was yours! I didn't have to catch anything then! It was just you and your friend from Odaiba..."

"...It's still odd though that every trip has something odd happen."

Tomoyo nodded.

"Takeru does have a point. It is suspicious."

Sakura shrugged.

"So... It's all some conspiracy to help me find the cards faster? That's just silly."

"Well, when you put it that way, I guess it is... and then you think about it, magical tarot cards and a flying hamster playing sixteen bit games you pulled out of the attic against a tiny winged lion that looks like a teddy bear makes perfect sense." Takeru retorted.

"...What are you talking ab... Oh, Kero and Patamon." Sakura realised mid-sentence, recalling that both of the small creatures had considerable difficulty operating the pad of her PS2 or Takeru's Gamecube.

"Wait a minute. Never mind why they might be happening, how can the school afford them?" A new voice said.

The trio looked at Sayoran Li.

"...That's a point. This place doesn't charge fees, no one asked us once to pay any sort of money towards a trip, and it gets the same budget from the government as every other school." Takeru agreed.

"Er... There are some... donors to the school." Tomoyo noted. Sayoran then sighed.

"Well, so long as your mother doesn't make us wear a Daidoji Toys logo on our uniforms or something."

"Well, we know how the school can afford it now.... But why do we always reach a Clow Card or a Digimon?" Sakura asked.

Sayoran took it.

"For the first one...Some of the cards may be deliberately trying to get caught. Others might just be subconsciously drawn towards the key when you bring it close enough to them. And some of them might be looking for you to challenge you since you have the key."

"And the Digimon?"

Sayoran shrugged.

"Takeru's the expert on that. I don't understand computers much."

At this, the bell rang to signal the end of lunch time, and the conversation was forgotten for the moment.

It was a week later when it was brought back up.

The class made their way towards the coach parked outside the school, when the blond spoke up again.

"So... Card, Digimon, or Both?" He asked Sakura.

His brunette cousin sighed as Tomoyo giggled in her trademark princess titter.

"Hopefully none."

"Well, let's think about it. It's ice skating, so... chances are an ice based card." Takeru noted.

"If it is I hope it freezes your mouth shut so you stop tempting fate..." Sakura muttered.

Five people walked away from the school. Two somewhat irked children from Hong Kong, one bewildered quarter-french boy from Odaiba, and two Japanese girls from Tomoeda who had mixed attitudes. One was very confused, and one was very amused.

"I still want to know how the hell this happened! You don't even have any magic ability!" Meiling cried out.

Takeru shrugged as Sayoran fumed.

"Well, at least it's completely harmless now, right? No magic from me means I can't invoke it."

"But you should have been frozen as well! How can that Digivice protect against magic?!"

Takeru shrugged again.

"Don't ask me. I don't understand magic."

The irate boy from Hong Kong, who had thought the card would be his until it emerged the interference from Angemon had apparently caused The Freeze to think Takeru had defeated it.

"...And I can't give it to someone, right?"

Sakura groaned.

"We told you a hundred times, we don't know! We need to ask Kero!"

"...How come he got the card anyway? I beat it!" A voice asked from inside Takeru's backpack.

"How come you brought your digital flying hamster in the first place? Sakura didn't bring the stuffed animal!" Meling seized on the opportunity as they rounded a corner.

"Kero was hogging the games console. Damn teddy bear..." The backpack said.

A very bewildered policeman watched the five kids pass by, and wondered if perhaps his coffee was a little too strong this afternoon..,
