As calm as I am actually, it occurs to me that there's only a few ways this could have possibly gone any worse, and I'm thankful right now this is as bad as it got here.
The only problem other than the obvious is that the Cockatrimon is still on the loose, and we still have no idea how it got into the real world. Meaning we have no idea if something else might come through later on.
Still, if I hadn't been nearby when it showed up, and if Biyomon hadn't felt the presence of something Digital World so close, this empty playground could have been a lot less empty.
Fortunately, all the kids and parents had the presence of mind to run like hell when a giant chicken appeared and turned a tree into stone. There may be more and more Digimon in the world today, and people might slowly be learning more about them but frankly, people can be kind of silly in life threatening situations.
Like me. I'm supposed to be a nineteen year old college student named Sora Takenouchi, not a strange bit of art in a hastily abandoned playground called "stupid lump of rock in tennis gear who forgot to get out of the way of a Petri-fire beam" or something.
Hey, I'm not an artist. I'm temporarily art.
I feel the wind kick up a little, and Biyomon's feathery wing holds my skirt in place.
"Don't worry, Sora, the others will be here soon enough. Hopefully before the cops or someone else who'll think you're dead..."
I'm more worried they'll wonder why a statue is wearing tennis gear and ignore anything you say, but whatever.
Biyomon sighed.
"It's supposed to be my job to take the attacks you know..." She grouched for the sixth time in half as many minutes.
Honestly, Biyomon, I'm not going to be a statue for long, and the others are after that Cockatrimon. If we're lucky they might take it out before...
"...Anyone even gets here. Oh, cool, I'm not stone any more. Well, let's go back to the tennis court and I can get changed... then go buy whoever got the Cockatrimon something nice."
You might be wondering why I'm seeming so calm about all that. Well, like I said. It could have been a lot worse than an empty playground.
