"So... TK, who is a boy, is a Sakuyamon, which is a girl... and Kari, who is a girl, is a Lobomon, which is a boy..." Patamon said.
"And her digivice scanned me and made a male variant of a Gatomon as one of the patterns it has... or whatever they're called..." Gatomon confirmed.
Meanwhile the two in question were somewhat nervously trying to figure out what to actually say.
"Um, so... how did you find your digivice?" Lobomon/Kari asked.
"Well... I was waiting for Patamon to come back and I got a little restless. I saw something at the top of a tree, then when I found it a Woodmon attacked me. Next thing I knew the Digivice was in my hand and I was a Sakuyamon." Sakuyamon/Takeru replied.
"Um, okay... Did you try anything with the one you found?"
"I tried to get it to cancel but it went haywire and nearly made me into an Angewomon..."
"At least you'd have been blonde again." Patamon noted.
Sakuyamon/Takeru glared at her/his partner.
"Having the right hair colour is the least of my problems, Patamon. They might say something about a time limit for how long it lasts but we don't have forty hours spare!"
"Yeah. We need to figure something out fast... We can't go home like this!" Lobomon/Kari noted.
The pair then battled with the Digivices, frustrated at every turn as they seemed hell bent on not responding. One moment the wheel went too far, then not far enough. Trying to search the menus was taking forever, and the two actual Digimon could do nothing but watch.
To make matters worse, the sunlight of the Digital World seemed to be glaring on the screens, making them hard to read, and the patchy clouds meant that though one minute it was too bright, the next, their attempts to put the screens in the shade made them unreadable from being too dark. It seemed that if there was a backlight, the setting to turn it on was just as hidden as everything else.
During this, Gatomon remembered her idea from earlier. What would happen if they traded the strange Digivices? She figured maybe it could help them at least feel less uncomfortable. A gender change on top of turning into a Digimon appeared to have unsettled both the humans.
"Hey, why not swap digivices?" She decided to try suggesting it.
"What good will that do?" Her formerly human partner asked.
"Well, at the very least you'd be the right genders maybe... " Patamon noted, seemingly on the same line of thinking as Gatomon
"Well, it might be the best we can do..." Sakuyamon/Takeru shrugged.
"Okay, fine. Let's try."
The pair swapped, and began trying to understand the Digivices.
"Whoa, wait! I found a revert mode!" Lobomon/Kari shouted. Carefully, he/she held the digivice flat in his/her hand, anxious to not press buttons.
"How did you find it?"
"Take yours back carefully and I'll try find it on mine. "
Sakuyamon/Takeru obeyed, and Lobomon/Kari took his/her own, trying to search. However, at that moment, the sun chose to come out and block the screenlight. Lobomon/Kari growled, turning to put the device in the shade...
And then Gatomon burst out laughing.
"What? What is it?" Lobomon/Kari asked. He/she turned to see a somewhat nervous looking Sakuyamon still there, and his/her heart skipped in dread. Had it failed?!
"TK managed to turn himself back, but he was completely naked!" Patamon giggled.
Lobomon/Kari stopped what he/she was doing with the Digivice as Sakuyamon/Takeru cringed.
"I forgot, okay? When it changed me it threw my clothes all over the forest and I forgot to pick them back up..."
Gatomon laughed again.
"So when you change back you're naked! At least Kari had the sense to throw them around inside the shrine..."
"Um, about that, I think... I'll just go inside the shrine to try and revert... and I'll give TK this one... Maybe he could at least head to find his clothes as guy..."
"Thanks." Sakuyamon/Takeru said quietly, then gasped.
"What is it?"
"I just remembered. I came over here because my regular Digivice began to show something on the map here. I decided to check it out and I found you guys, but I asked Patamon to try get someone else here to help me... In case it was dangerous, and to try figure out what to do if I couldn't get myself normal..."
"Who did you ask?" Lobomon/Kari enquired.
Patamon shrugged.
"I just sent it to the first person on the list."
Sakuyamon/Takeru groaned.
"Cody or Ken would have been better... You sent the message to Daisuke..."
Lobomon/Kari sighed.
"If he shows, keep him out of this shrine..."
A few moments later, Kari emerged, human again and female once more. She tossed the Digivice to Sakuyamon/Takeru, who soon managed to wind up glowing, shifting shape slightly, and emerged a male Digimon.
"This isn't perfect but at least I don't feel as weird..." Lobomon/Takeru smiled.
"And you're blond again." Patamon smirked.
"Hey, can I see your Digivice a minute, TK? I'll be careful..." Kari asked.
"What are you planning?"
"Well... The wheel is small, right? And the buttons too. The two forms we wound up in, had pretty big hands. Maybe I can control it easier now."
Lobomon/Takeru handed it over.
"Just don't turn me or yourself into something else...."
"I won't... I hope..."
They walked, heading to where Takeru had left his clothes, and Kari found her theory was right. Human fingers operated it far better.
"Hmm... This one is all female variants. There's an option for a Human here, it's got an M and and F choice... Male and Female..."
"Wait. It's got a girl version of Takeru?" Gatomon asked.
Kari shrugged.
"It might just be of me. I did try using this one after all. "
"Try it!" Gatomon shouted.
"Why? What point is there? And how do we know it won't be without clothes exactly?" Lobomon/Takeru pointed out.
Kari eeped.
"Yeah, sorry, Gatomon, but I do not want to risk that. I don't want to mess around with this thing too much..."
She tried to cut out of the menu, when it suddenly spoke.
"Digitvolution beam option selected. Confirm target."
"Wait, what?!" Kari almost shrieked. A second later, the device beeped.
"Target selected. Proccessing."
She squealed, cringed, and closed her eyes, waiting on Gatomon and Patamon's laughter as she became... whatever the damn thing had decided to change her into.
Instead, she head Gatomon cry out... and the cry became something else.
She opened her eyes in time to see Gatomon glowing, growing, and when it ended...
"...What the hell?! You didn't want to mess around with it and then you do this?!" Takeru/Gatomon fumed.
"...Okay, so, you just turned Gatomon into me. Why?" Lobomon/Takeru pondered.
"It was an accident!" Kari groaned.
"Hey.... There are clothes on her... him... uh, wait, that is the male version of you, right?" Patamon wondered.
"I don't know. How do you humans tell?" Gatomon wondered.
"Er, well, let me..." Kari said, walking over.
"Wait, what are you gonna..." Lobomon/Takeru fretted, and then sighed.
"Hmm... Nope, nothing there. I should hope you're male, or TK's lucky he was born a boy..." Kari smirked.
"...What do you mean by that?" Takeru/Gatomon frowned, prodding his/her chest much like Kari had just done.
Kari however was checking the Digivice again
"Okay... Ah, wait, I can reverse this I think. The screen says it's a temporary emulation of the Human pattern, it would only last about three hours at most. Once you're a Digi-cat again maybe we can use it on TK so he looks normal and has clothes until we find his real ones?" Kari realised.
"Worth a try, but, uh... Mind if I hide behind a bush or something? Just in case?Lobomon/Takeru said.
Kari nodded, then pressed the button. Another beam shot out, and Takeru/Gatomon glowed again, shrinking down, and emerging as a normal, female, Gatomon.
"Okay, now, try to be careful with it..." Gatomon said.
However, there was a loud noise, as something approached. Kari span around, reflexively.
"Pattern selected. Target selected..."
"Oh, crap..." Kari swore.
"Kari! Is everything all right? TK sent a weird message to me..." Daisuke began, with Exveemon just behind.
The beam shot out, and Daisuke glowed.
"...What did you just do?" Exveemon asked in confusion.
Daisuke shrank down, making only one sound.
"Huh?!"
It had been in his normal voice. The others watched as the glowing shape became that of a small, pink, bird. A Biyomon.
Biyomon/Daisuke blinked.
"What just hap.... My voice?!" She/he gasped, then noticed the wings in place of arms.
"Kari?! What did you just do?!" She/he squealed.
There was silence.
And then laughter.
"Sorry Daisuke! It... we found these weird Digivices... " Kari explained, looking upset even while Gatomon and Patamon laughed.
Lobomon/Takeru was smirking, but his own experiences meant laughing was not an option. Still, at least it was apparently more temporary for Daisuke.
"Guys! Shut up!" She shouted, but Lobomon/Takeru noted that she winked at them, where Biyomon/Daisuke couldn't see...
"What... What weird Digivices?" The newly made bird said, shocked.
"Well, the Digivice... It, uh, well, it shot out that beam and... I turned Takeru into that Lobomon..."
"...What? And then you turned me into a Biyomon?! How come I... Why did you make me a girl?!" Biyomon/Daisuke panicked.
"Um... It... It was an accident."
"Can you turn us back?!"
"...No. I tried and... and" She stammered, and held her face in her hand.
She looked like sobbing, but the three who knew the truth about the Digivices sighed. She was clearly actually laughing herself, and trying to use it as part of her joke...
"Okay, Kari, that's enough, I'm not sure I like that joke. Daisuke, she can revert you." Lobomon/Takeru sighed.
"...Oh. You had me going there. So why are you still a Lobomon?"
"Oh, let me do this one..."Gatomon said...
"And that's about it. Any questions?"
Davis, now back to human, and thankfully having had his clothes converted with him, smirked.
"So... Kari was naked too?"
"Hey, unless you want feathers again, shut up."
"Wait, I realised something. How come boy humans have a tail? And why is it at the front?"
The humans, and the one transformed human, fidgeted a little nervously
"Um, that's not a tail, Gatomon..." Kari blushed.
"I know, I just wanted to see how you guys reacted to that."
The humans sighed.
"So... What else can they do?" Daisuke pondered.
"I have no idea, and right now, I want to go find my clothes... And then I want to throw this thing in the ocean and stay far, far away from every weird Digivice I see from now on." Lobomon/Takeru said.
"We think it has a version of TK as a girl on it." Patamon said.
"Oh? Hmm... I think we need to test this out some more. In a safe place... We'll need some smart science type people... " Davis mused.
"TK will have to be the test subject obviously. We'll need cameras for blackma... I mean, recording it all..." Gatomon noted.
Lobomon/Takeru glared at his partner.
"Look at what you did. Are you happy now?"
Patamon merely smirked, and Daisuke and Gatomon merely continued planning.... Kari however groand.
"...I just realised. There might be a male version of me on the other one if it really is a female version of you that's on this one now..."
Takeru/Lobomon pondered this.
"...Wouldn't a male you just look like Tai with neat hair?"
There was no way to truly answer at that point, of course. The group soon found Takeru's clothes, and shortly after, were back home, back to normal all round... And in Takeru and Kari's cases, hoping Daisuke and Gatomon forgot the plan to experiment more. Or were joking.
Patamon however, had agreed with Veemon to try and remind them. An ironic situation, given that it had been an argument between them that had really sparked the whole mess...
